Chapter 3: Five hours before the wedding

A Silent Affair of the Heart

Chapter 3:

"And that's why I don't go on air planes." Minah giggled turning her head to Jeongmin. "Oppa?"

"What?" Jeongmin moved he gaze from the wide flowing lake to the young girl sitting beside him. "Oh, I'm sorry Minah, it's just, there's a lot on my mind right now." Jeongmin flicked his bangs to the side.

"You're thinking about Hara aren't you?" Minah stated as if it wasn't even a question, and yet it also seem sort of sad as well.

"What? No, no." Jeongmin shook his head back and forth while he waved his hands slightly from side to side trying to indicate she was wrong.

"Come on Oppa, I'm not stupid, I have known you for years. I can tell when your lying and when you’re telling the truth...I can also tell when you’re thinking about Hara." Minah tolled him. And it was true, she could tell when he lied and could tell when he was being truthful, but most of all she knew if he was thinking about her sister. Minah couldn't help but notice his mannerisms. "Whenever you lie you make a big deal about it and try a little too hard to convince others you’re telling the truth, and when you are telling the truth your face is relaxed and you talk without any unnecessary arm gestures or head shaking..."

"But how can you tell if I'm thinking about...her?" Jeongmin turned his body around so that he was fully facing Minah.

"Well...over the years I noticed that whenever you saw her you would either smile brightly while looking down, toning out the rest of the world and if you were thinking about her you would do the same and then begin...drawing hearts..."

"Hearts?" Jeongmin's eyebrow raised slightly.

"Yes, if you had a pencil then you would draw hearts on the paper I front of you, or if you didn't have anything you would begin tracing the outline of a heart on your lag. It's super cheesy but that's why I know you're thinking about Hara, because you never did that for anyone else." Minah wasn't looking at Jeongmin as she talked; she looked down at the ground and began pulling strands of grass from the soil then lightly tossing it into the lake.

"Oh, well, it doesn't really matter now, Hara doesn't love me anymore and she is getting married in five hours, there is no way she would ever take me back." Jeongmin shook his head and began doing as Minah was.

"Don't say that, if Hara didn't still have feelings for you then she wouldn't have been second guessing herself about getting married." Minah froze and turned to look at Jeongmin.

"Really?" Jeongmin asked

"Yes, and Jeongmin, if you two are meant to be together then you will be, but you will never know if you don't go for it first." Minah turned back to the ground in front of her feet and began plucking the blades of grass one by one.

"I don't understand what you're saying to me." Jeongmin frowned his eyebrows.

"You are a smart person Jeongmin, but when it counts the most you can sometimes be so very clueless. I'm telling you to go confront Hara, if she wants to be with you then you'll know and I'll wish two the best, but if she doesn't want to take you back then at least you will know that it wasn't meant to be so that you can have some peace of mind." Jeongmin briefly stared at Minah in shock. He had always known her as a simply adorable little girl the entire time they had known one another, yet it seemed as if she wasn't a little girl anymore.

"You know, you're really something Do Minah." Jeongmin pinched Minah's cheek and stood up, dusting off his pants. "Thanks."

And with that he left. Minah just sat there silently as tears began to roll down her cheeks. All you'll ever see me as is a little sister, nothing more. Why can't you tell how I feel?

Youngmin signalled for Kwangmin to begin his destruction. Kwangmin nodded at his older brother and moseyed his way into the kitchen. "Well hello beautiful..." He seductively whispered into the middle aged cook's ear as his arm found their way around her broad shoulders. Cook wasn't really a very happy person, she was overweight, had grey hairs, her skin was red and clammy; she dressed in mostly baggy shirts and long skirts underneath her stained apron. She never talked to guys and some people even thought she was gay by the way she looked at the other girls of the house hold when they walk around in short dresses and skirts. She grumbled a lot and had a nasty temper. No one was stupid enough to mess around with her...well...maybe not the Jo twins that is.

"What do you want you scrawny little bastard." The cool growled.

"Oh come now, don't be like that..." Kwangmin ground slightly giving off and aura that would make any girl faint. The cool looked up from the small strawberry pieces she was cutting and looked at him, she had an annoyed look on her face until she noticed how close Kwangmin was to her and how fast the space between them was shrinking.

"N-now you l-listen hear-" She struggled to get out.

"Shhh..." Kwangmin put his finger over her sweaty lips. "Don't speak. I know what people say about you being a big fat ugly monster."

"What?" Her eyebrows nicked together

"I have heard those words... But those people are so very wrong, they see you as a thing, but I see you as..." Kwangmin took a long pause

"As…?" The cool finally asked. Bingo! Now we're getting somewhere.

"As a beautiful, dazzling, gorgeous, hot...y, women." Kwangmin had managed to get the knife out of her hand and had guided her up against the island. Kwangmin’s hands roamed around her waist as his lips softly hovered over her ear, his breath was loud and heavy casing a moan to escape the cooks lips. Kwangmin rolled his eyes, I haven't even done anything yet. Kwangmin glanced around the room and his eyes stopped as they landed on Youngmin holding one of the extra cakes in his hands trying to suppress his laughter. What an idiot, all I needed was for him to distracted her; he didn't need to seduce her.

Kwangmin gave his brother a death glare telling him to get out of the kitchen that instant. Yougmin only shook his head an stuck his tongue out at Kwangmin and began making kissy faces. "Damn you!" Kwangmin growled out loud at Youngmin who finely decided to, slowly, leave the room.

"Oh yeah..." The cook moaned at the sudden feeling of Kwangmin’s grip on her hips grow stronger. Kwangmin’s lips drew away from her ear and began to near but just as she thought he was about to kiss her, he stood up strait and began walking towards the door.

"Is that it?" The cook asked turning around as she watched him exit the kitchen.

"Sorry, but I gotta go." Kwangmin said without looking behind him. He just walked right out.

"Wow..." The cook sighed and rapped her arms around herself.

"Um...cook?" One of the maids asked walking into the kitchen.

"Oh, um, yes?"

"Mrs. Lee said she needed the cakes now." The maid answered.

"Right, yes, all seven of them should be on the counter over there." The cook pointed across the room as she made her way over to the strawberries she had been cutting earlier.

"Um, cook?"

"Yes?"

"There is only six cakes..."

Kwangmin and Youngmin heard a loud scream and bolted down the hall to find Haru, desperately trying not to get the cake all over their suits.

Jeongmin ran up to the house and slid through the front door as a floweriest made their way out. Jeongmin slid his shoes off and quickly ran up the stairs. "Hara?" Jeongmin knocked on the door a couple of times but at first got no response. "Har-" Jeongmin began before the door swung open resulting in him almost falling onto the floor.

"Jeongmin~?" Hara asked in a slur.

"Hara, have you been drinking?" Jeongmin looked down at the three fourths empty bottle of liquor in her hand.

"T~that isn't~ important~." Hara shook her head at him and closed the door. "What do you want?" Hara asked with a more sober voice.

"I wanted to talk to you..." Jeongmin took a step closer to Hara.

"About?" Hara put a hand onto her dressing table to try and keep her from falling onto the ground.

"Us." Jeongmin took a deep breath. "I know that when I left I hurt you, and I understand that you got over me and found another man but..."

"But what~?" Hara's slur was back but she still seemed rather angry.

"But is there still any part of you who still loves me? Just tell me, if yes then I'll be so happy to now you feel the same way but if not then I'll leave you be."

"Jeongmin, I'm getting married in less than five hours." Hara didn't seem even remotely drunk at that point.

"I know, so just tell me you don't love me anymore and you would rather be with Donghyun, and that us shouldn't have happened in the first place." Jeongmin took another step towards Hara and she swallowed hard.

"But that's the thing...I can't tell you that." Jeongmin placed a hand on Hara's check. Hara knew that it was wrong, she wouldn't forgive her self if she let him kiss her, so after a couple of moments of Jeongmin moving closer and Hara not being able to move, she shoved him away.

"Hara-"

"Get out of my room now!" She ordered

"I apologize-"

"This is entirely your fault; you should have never come back!" Jeongmin froze at her words, and no matter how cheesy it sounds, he could feel his heart shatter.

"I love you..." He whispered so quietly that was the only person that could hear him. Hara pushed passed him and began running down the hall. Jeongmin fell to his knees, his hand on his chest, and he could feel his heart beat being to quicken. The one girl he had ever truly loved wished he had never come back. He should have seen that coming, he had done worse to her, but Jeongmin still couldn't help but be shocked and hurt by her words.

It was a beautiful day like always at Sang Chun Estate, and Jeongmin just couldn't help but take a walk. He had lived in Sang Chun Estate all his life, well up until last year when he got himself and apartment. His mother had been the house keeper ever since she was thirty and Jeongmin had learnt so much about life as he grew up there. He didn't go to university; in fact he dropped out after high school because he wanted to pursue his dream of being a free-lance photographer. As Jeongmin was walking by the house on his way to the front door, he saw a black car drive up to the front.

"Hello!" His mother greeted as she exited the house to welcome the young girls leaving the car.

"You must be Hara." Jeongmin's mom smiled to a beautiful young girl with long black hair, probably no more than sixteen years old. Jeongmin chuckled to himself as he lifted his camera and took a picture of the girl. She was like and angle.

"And this is where we keep all the friends and family pictures." Mrs. Lee explained as she gestured to a wall covered with portraits.

"Who's that?" Minah asked pointing to a certain photo, Hara turned to the photo. There was a very handsome boy in the photo, he was smiling and laughing in such a way that Hara couldn't help but smile.

"That's my son Jeongmin, he went out on a walk earlier today so it didn't look like he's back yet, but you'll see him around here and perhaps the streets as well."

The next day Hara decided to go into town to get a feel for her new home. It was a bit of a colder day so she put on a white sweeter and a red scarf.

Hara was sort of lost and was wondering around when she saw a young man sitting on a bench in front of a water fountain; he looked tiered, and also very familiar. Jeongmin! That's who he was, Mrs. Lee's son. He looked just like the photo, possibly better even. Hara slowly walked over to him, he was blowing bubbles. Hara giggled. She began to skip over and finely planted herself onto the empty space beside him. He turned his head and jumped slightly at her. He cleared his throat and stood up, walking away. Hara was taken back at first but then she realized anyone would react that way if some random stranger came up to them like that.

Hara stood up again and began walking after him. She followed him for some time before he looked behind him, at first he was unreadable, but then he began to chuckle. He then began running away. Hara honestly at this point just wanting to know how to get home, or at least to the bus stop, started running after him.

Hara turned the corner of a shoe shop and found Jeongmin nowhere in sight. "Where’d he go?" Hara asked herself out loud.

"I'm right here." A voice answered as a pair of hands landed on her shoulders.

"Jeongmin!" Hara's eyes widened.

"Hello, it's nice to meet you Miss Do Hara." He took a step back and out stretched his hand.

"You know my name?"

"Yes, same way you learnt mine. My Mother told me." Jeongmin smiled charmingly and Hara could feel her cheeks heat up. "What is it that brings you to stock me?"

"I wasn't stocking you, It's just, I'm sort of lost, and I was wondering if you could help me get back, or at least just bring me to the bus stop."

"Well, you came just in time." Jeongmin took Hara's wrist.

"Um, Jeongmin where are we going?" Hara asked

"Call me Oppa, and we're going to the bus station." When they got there the bus was empty. Hara, Jeongmin, and the driver were the only people there...well, for the first three minutes that is, before the other twenty people entered. But the first three minutes seemed like hours, there was absolutely nothing to talk about, and even if there was Hara didn't want to annoy the driver. She glanced and Jeongmin who turned his head to find her staring at him. They both turned away, Hara smiled to herself and Jeongmin Quietly chuckled.

Hara had; had crushes before. Many, she was sixteen, she knew what it felt like to like a boy...but somehow...this felt different.

Hara rushed down the long hall until she reach one particular room and began banging harshly on the door. "Hello? Oh, Hara Noona!" Minwoo opened the door and smiled when he recognized the beautiful bride.

"Is Donghyun in his room?" Hara asked frantically

"Yes, he is just over there." Minwoo turned around to point at Donghyun who was looking out his window.

"Thank you Minnie!" Hara said as she pinched Minwoo's checks before pulling him out of the room and quickly closeting and locking the door behind her so that he couldn't get back in.

"Hara?" Donghyun turned away from the window and smiled when he saw his Fiancée. "Isn't it bad luck for the groom to see the bride before the wedding?" Donghyun chuckled but Hara's face was dead series.

"Screw bad luck." Hara then pulled her veil off her head and jumped at Donghyun rapping her arms around his neck as she powerfully kissed him.

"Hara...don't you...think we should wait till...our honey moon?" Donghyun asked in between kisses.

"Why can't we do it know and on our honey moon, we have enough time anyway." Hara breathed quickly before pulling Donghyun down on top of her on the bed. Donghyun hesitated for a split second before attacking Hara's neck with his lips.

"Why not?" Donghyun agreed as he breathed into her ear making Hara shiver. This is how it should be, she should be thinking of only Donghyun, feeling bliss and ecstasy rushing through her. Nothing ever happens the way it's supposed to, Hara new that much by now, but she didn't know why she wanted to cry her eyes out. Suddenly just as Donghyun was about to untie the back of Hara's dress a loud scream resounded through the house.

"What was that?" Donghyun sat up and looked at the door.

"I don't know?" Hara answered honestly as she thanked god that she didn't begin crying.

"Come on, let's check and see, if I know one thing for sure, that's that the twins have something to do with this." Donghyun looked grumpy as he got of the bed and fixed this suit and hair before helping Hara off the bed so she could do the same.

"Hope they didn't break anything."

"If they did, I'll have their heads." Donghyun smiled and planted a kiss on Hara's check.

When Donghyun and Hara got down stairs they saw Youngmin and Kwangmin on the floor while the cool stood there pinching their ears. The cake they had taken was on the ground with Haru's little head was grudges inside eating it up.

"What on earth happened here?" Donghyun asked, his eyes widening.

"Ask them." The cook growled.

"Well, um, we may have stolen one of the cakes..." Kwangmin began

"To feed to Haru..." Youngmin finished his brothers sentence.

"Let them go Cook." Hara ordered and with a grunt she let the twins go and made her way back to the kitchen.

"I knew you weren't helping Mrs. Lee!" Hyunseong called out as he entered the room followed by Bora. "Aish..."

"Haru!" Bora ran up to the animal and lifted him up, "that isn't good for you!"

"Bora, do you think we should take him to a vet?" Hara asked nervously

"I don't know-" all of a sudden Haru swarmed out of Bora's arms and dashed away towards the backyard. "Damn it..."

"Don't sweat it, I'm sure he’ll be fine." Hyunseong the two girls after he pulled the twins off the ground.

"If you're sure, then I'm certain he'll be ok." Bora smiled shyly as he kissed her check.

"Wait a minute. What was that?" Hara and Donghyun looked at each other then back at Bora and Hyunseong.

"Well..."

"Oh, um, sorry..." Hyunseong smiled and rubbed the back of his neck.

"Oh, that's alright..." Bora shook her head us hiring him it was fine after a short moment of silence.

"Oh, alright then I was just wondering if you needed help with anything." Hyunseong explained

"Yes actually." Bora nodded, "I could use some help moving the china to the backyard." Hyunseong smiled at her and walked over to the open kitchen cabinet door to get out the cups and saucers. "Thank you." Bora smiled

"You’re welcome." Hyunseong patted her head.

"I'll just take these outside then-" Bora began before tripping on her heals and falling backwards. She expected to feel the floor on her back by now but after a few moments of no impact she opened her eyes. "Hyunseong?" Bora asked staring at the man who's arms were around her.

"Bora?" Hyunseong's breathed, he was panting lightly.

"You caught me."

"Yeah. What gave you the impression I wouldn't?" He was still holding her in the same passion; dangling above the kitchen floor in his arms.

"Nothing. Uh, could you, um..." Bora looked at the group then back at Hyunseong.

"Right." He lifted Bora up in a swift movement. Except now, in their standing passion, their faces were even closer together.

"Bora?"

"Yeah?"

"I don't know..." Hyunseong chuckled lightly and as if it were instinct, Bora leaned in and kissed him.

"That's even cheesier then how Donghyun first asked Hara out." Youngmin whined.

"Yeah!" Kwangmin agreed in just as of an annoying tone.

"Hey!" Hara called startling them slightly, "Backyard, now!" The twins nodded and scurried away.

"I knew this was going to happen eventually." Donghyun smiled.

"I'm back everyone!" A cheerful voice announced as she stepped through the open door.

"Hyo!" Hara smiled

"You know you shouldn't leave the door open like that." A middle aged man advised.

"Don't worry Father, it won't happen again." Hara tolled the priest.

"Now, there seems like there is still four hours till the wedding..." Father Choi looked at his watch, "I heard there was going to be tinny sandwiches." He smiled

"And you heard correct." Donghyun smiled guiding the Father to the backyard where everyone was beginning to head to.

"Don't eat too much Father!" Hyolyn called after the pair, "Remember what Siwon said about your diet!"

"Yes of course!" Father Choi called back.

Hyunseong rapped his arm around Bora's shoulder and she began hugging him back. "Wait, when did this happen?" Hyolyn's eyes widened and blinked a couple of times. The couple and Hara just laughed.

"Come on, we should go wait in the backyard." Bora took Hyolyn's hand and pulled her out of the hall, following behind them, Hyunseong.

Hara sighed; she turned around and began walking back up the stairs to her room to relax for the next four hours. When she turned the corner she bumped into Jeongmin. "Listen Hara-"

"I don't want to hear it." Hara said trying to move past him but Jeongmin grabbed her arm.

"Listen to me. I didn't want to leave, and I wanted to take you with me, but I couldn't. Hara I love you, and I've loved you ever since I first saw you, no matter how stupid it sounds."

"If you ever loved me, then you would have told me you had to leave, you would have called me, or written to me." Hara told him, her voice beginning to crack as tears began b in her eyes.

"I wanted to, but I couldn't face you after I left." Jeongmin's grip on Hara tightened.

"If you really love me, then stop hurting me."

"How have I hurt you?" Jeongmin let go of Hara's arm.

"By coming back."
