Acrophobia: fear of heights
He was just sitting there. Feet planted on the railing. He wore torn jeans and a plaid shirt that bristled in the wind. Burst of sounds surrounded him as he observed the city through his dull brown eyes. People laughing, wind whistling, waves lapping. But he just stared. His eyes never drifted from the icy blue waves of the sea ahead of him.
I've noticed him even before, during the last time I passed by this area which was the other day. He was right there too, attentively staring at something, or maybe even someone, right ahead of him.
This is the third time I've seen him, and I wonder if I have enough courage to approach him today. As weird as it may sound.
"Hey."
Well, I guess I did. I slowly walked up to him, but greeted him when I was a few feet away, so he'd be warned of my presence. He looked at me with his brown eyes, I stared back at him with my own. "What are you waiting for?" He looked right at me then with a serious look on his face then smiled the most gorgeous smile on the planet.
He said, "Waiting for someone to care enough to actually come over and sit. I've been waiting for someone to ask that exact question. Where have you been?" he was teasing me, I knew it.
I couldn't help but just laugh at his unique mind and he laughed with me too. I was smiling by the time I sat on the railings beside him. I stare at the seashore and the horizon beyond us. "Is that realy the reason why you come back here? Or is it the view?" I ask him. "I'd go back here everyday if the reason was the latter."
"It's the former, really, it is." he says, smiling back at me. "But it's the view that makes me stay. It's nice, isn't it?"
I nodded, agreeing. "Yeah, it is. But... aren't you scared?" I look back and see even more water of the river behind us, rushing towards the entrance where it'll lead to the sea. It was a pretty far drop if ever someone would fall. "It's a pretty long fall behind you."
"No." he answered me simply, with a smile, still. He turned to me and I turned back to face him. We smiled at each other again, and I couldn't help but feel so attracted to his jawline, his whole face actually. He was indeed good-looking, more so nearier. "Are you scared of heights?"
"A little." I admitted, feeling a little hint of embarrassment when he smirked. Because, it felt like he knew I was checking him out.
"Then let's get off of this thing." he jumped off the railings with a soft thud. He duested off the dirt from his pants and looked back at me, still smiling. He outstretched his hand. "Wanna grab some coffee? Or munchkins?"
I smiled, accepting his hand despite the fact I didn't quite know him. But something told me, he was a good guy. He didn't seem so bad either. "Can we get both?"
He nods. "Sure. I'm Jongdae by the way."
Jongdae. A name I could never seem to forget.
