You have the universe in your eyes

Stargazer

Were your parents thieves? Because they stole the stars and put them in your eyes.

"I can't believe it... Twenty minutes into class and I'm already falling asleep".

"Well, maybe you shouldn't have stayed up so late last night. Stargazing again?"

Annoyed, Xiumin turned to the boy sitting in front of him, flicking his head with his thumb and index finger.

"And what does my stargazing has to do with you? You aren't any better than me, staying up until 3AM to play video games online with that little boyfriend of yours. What was his name again?"

D.OXiumin's incredibly annoying but also very sweet and caring best friend, gave him a smack over the head for that one.

"His name is Kai. K-A-I ! Remember that if you want to avoid getting hit in the future".

"Well someone is showing his violent side today".

"Like this is anything new".

The pair chuckled at one another and D.O was just beginning to talk about the new game which he had played together with Kai the night before, when the door opened and the teacher entered.

Rolling his eyes, D.O turned back to the front to face the teacher, and Xiumin in turn let his gaze wonder over towards the front of the classroom.

"Good morning students. Today we have to honor to welcome a new student to our class. Come on in dear".

In entered a very fragile and feminine looking boy, his gaze at the floor before the teacher asked him to introduce himself.

"Hello everyone. My name is Luhan. I'm 17 years old and I'm from Beijing, China. I hope we can get along".

The students clapped and gave the boy approving smiles, making the blonde boy blush.

"So Luhan. You can sit at the back by XiuminXiumin would you please raise your hand?"

In the moment Xiumin raised his hand, and his eyes met the blondes' gaze, everything seemed to pause.

The boy had the most beautiful eyes Xiumin had ever seen. Even from afar he could sense the beauty in them. And he couldn't wait to see them up close.

Time began moving again as the other boy broke their eye-contact in favor of walking towards his assigned seat. Xiumin couldn't help but to watch the boy's every move, as he gracefully maneuvered through the maze of desks and seats.

As the boy sat down in the seat next to him, he was quick to offer his hand to the other boy, asking for a handshake.

"Hey there! My name is Xiumin and I hope we can get along well".

The boy stared at him in shock, before taking his hand in a small and very shy handshake.

"Y-yeah I hope so too".

He offered a small smile and Xiumin would have thought of it  all as beautiful if it wasn't for the fact that Luhans' eyes held no happiness to accompany the smile at all. Although he really wanted to ask Luhan if he was alright, he figured that it wasn't any of his business and instead, turned back to the front.

Still, he couldn't help but to secretly glance at the boy from the corner of his eye ever so often.

Lesson after lesson went by fairly quickly and before Xiumin knew it, it was time for lunch.

D.O had Student Council duties so he couldn't accompany him today, but maybe he could find Chanyeol and Baekhyun instead? Grabbing his lunchbox from his backpack he headed towards the cafeteria.

But before he had the chance to even look around for the other boys, his gaze fell on something else. A very familiar boy sitting alone outside, looking quite lonely where he sat almost hidden in a corner. Not liking the idea of the poor boy sitting all by himself, Xiumin headed out the door and made his way towards the blonde boy.

The boy was staring straight ahead and seemed a bit dazed when Xiumin got to him. When Xiumin tapped his shoulder in order to get the others' attention, the boy immediately batted his hand away, before looking up at Xiumin.

"S-sorry! So sorry! I didn't know it was you..."

Xiumin had expected the boy to be surprised and a bit startled, but that kind of reaction wasn't the one he had expected at all. Throwing the thought away, he sat down next to Luhan who looked surprised to say the least.

"Aren't you going to eat anything? If you have anywhere near as many lessons as I have left you're going to starve!"

Luhan looked at Xiumin before eyeing his food with an unreadable expression.

"No that's alright. I ate quite a lot for breakfast, and I don't eat very much anyway".

"Oh come on. No matter how much you might have had for breakfast you got to be hungry by now. You're seriously going to regret not eating in a few hours. Here, you can share mine".

Giving the other boy his biggest gummy smile, Xiumin held out his lunchbox filled with sandwiches and baby-carrots toward the other, waiting for him to grab something.

After what seemed like an eternity, Luhan reached out a shaking hand towards the box, grabbing the smallest sandwich he could find. Smiling in triumph, Xiumin took a handful of baby-carrots and put them in a napkin before placing them in the others' lap.

"You're already really skinny. You should eat more or you'll become sick, and as your new friend I won't allow that!"

Luhan almost choked on the baby-carrot he was chewing, managing to swallow it before staring at Xiumin. And Xiumin wasn't sure but were those tears in the others' eyes?

"Y-you... you want to be my f-friend?"

Not understanding how big of a deal this was to LuhanXiumin just smiled at him and continued to eat his sandwich.

"Of course I want to. You seem like a really nice kid, and you seem pretty lonely as well. Nobody should have to be alone all the time, right? So yes, I do want to be your friend".

After hearing Xiumin's anwerLuhan couldn't help but let a small tear escape from his eyes before angrily wiping it away. Xiumin noticed though.

"Hey... is something wrong? Did I upset you or something?"

Xiumin reached out to pat the crying boy on his back, rubbing up and down in a gesture of comfort while Luhan continued to rub at his poor eyes stubbornly.

"No... I-it's just that I... I've never had a friend before...".

Xiumin was shocked at the confession. Yes, the boy had seemed a bit like a loner, but to think that he'd never had a friend before? Unimaginable.

"Well you won't have to be alone now. I'll be your friend from now on, so you can always come to me okay? Wait, hold out your hand for a second".

Luhan did as he was told, looking through tear gazed eyes as Xiumin fished up a pen from his pocket, taking off the cap before grabbing Luhan's hand. He felt a tickling sensation in his palm and he was about to drag his hand back when Xiumin released it himself.

"There you go! Call or text me whenever you want to talk alright?".

Looking down at his palm, Luhan saw a row of numbers and never had numbers looked so beautiful in the young boys eyes. Numbers had always been his enemy up to this point in his life after all...

But these numbers were different. They represented something beautiful. They represented a friend. His first real friend.

And for the first time since Xiumin had first laid his eyes on the boy, Luhan's eyes were freed from their sadness and happiness replaced it.

His eyes sparkled and twinkled brighter than all of the stars that Xiumin liked to watch from his balcony at night, and he was mesmerized by the beauty which these two orbs held.

"You have really beautiful eyes, you know that?"

They were both surprised by Xiumin's statement, but Luhan offered Xiumin a small smile as a thank you.

The beautiful moment between the newborn friends came to and end as the bell rang, signaling the end of lunch. As they made their way back to class together, Luhan told Xiumin that he had to use the bathroom and that he'd catch up with him in a bit.

Xiumin nodded and continued his march towards their next class, while Luhan located the closest bathroom.

And as he forced his fingers down his throat, tears b in his eyes, he apologized to Xiumin in his mind over and over again for tainting the hand where those beautiful numbers were written.
