Determination

Just One Day

Kim Taehyung ran around the park near his old apartment. His head whipped left and right as sweats dribbled down the side of his face. His breathing became harsh as clouds of steam were coming out of his mouth due to the cold temperature. The park was empty and looked almost deserted since it was already 2 o’clock in the morning.

“Mun Hyejoong!” Taehyung shouted not caring whether he would wake up the whole neighbourhood. “It’s me, Taehyung. Come out. You’re safe now,” he kept on saying while roaming around the park mindlessly. The park was adorned with tall trees as the grass could be seen poking out of the white snow on the ground. Taehyung looked around and blew hot air out of his mouth while rubbing his hands together.

An hour earlier, Taehyung had received a call saying that Hyejoong had run away from home again. The sound of her mother crying in Taehyung’s ear on the line was ringing through his mind as he sped up his pace. Hyejoong came from a screwed up family. Her parents had gone through a messy divorce, her older brother had taken away his life due to pressure and in the end, Hyejoong was left alone. By the time Hyejoong grew older, she became a timid and quiet girl with lots of fear.

However, Taehyung's weird and quirky attitude managed to open Hyejoong's heart when they in middle school as the two had been together ever since. They had each other’s back; there were no secrets between them as their relationship had no boundaries. “Mun Hyejoong!” he screamed louder this time and he heard a dog barking from a distant. “Where is she?” he looked around the place in anxiety.

Due to his hectic schedules, Taehyung had not been able to stay in contact with Hyejoong. It was the longest time they had been separated and he was getting worried of what had happened to her within those months. He ruffled his hair in stress and growled. He loved Hyejoong but had never confessed.  He wanted to but it was complicated.

Having her as his girlfriend would be a dream come true but would it change the course of their strong relationship they had. Hyejoong needed him now and his mere feelings should not be in the way. “Hyejoong-ah!” he called out, his voice losing its strength.

He felt helpless all of a sudden.

He wanted her in his arms.

“Taehyung,” a small voice was heard and Taehyung knew who it was. He turned around and saw Hyejoong standing behind him, wearing only her shirt and track bottoms. Her shoulder-length hair was ruffled by the wind as the moonlight shone on her face. “Taehyung,” she reiterated in a more shaky voice, her lips slowly turning blue.

“Why did you run away?” Taehyung came closer to her, “Did your mom and dad fight again?”

“Dad…” Hyejoong’s voice seemed so timid and scared that Taehyung could not prevent himself from taking her into his arms. “Dad came home to see me,” she stated, “But- but- mom started to scream at him saying that he should not be there.”

Hyejoong buried her face in Taehyung’s chest to find comfort as he caressed her hair. The moment her parents started bickering a few hours ago, Hyejoong ran out of the house- a natural reflex she had developed over the years of hardships. It was not her first time but Hyejoong was still scared. She did not have anywhere to go and had no one to comfort her since Taehyung was busy, so, she came to the park in hope that she could find peace.

                “I’m here now,” Taehyung whispered.

                “Thank you,” Hyejoong said.

“Are you going to thank me every time I do this?” Taehyung chuckled.

Hyejoong nodded, “Thank you,” she said again. Taehyung tightened their hug as he rocked back and forth. “How did you know I ran away?” she asked.

“Your mom called,” he replied as they broke their hug.

A moment of silence enveloped the two friends as Hyejoong hung her head low. “I think I have to go home now,” she mumbled.

“Hey,” Taehyung pulled her from the wrist as Hyejoong looked up at him, “Come with me to the dorm.”

                Hyejoong stayed silent.

“Come on, trust me,” Taehyung swung her hand a little to get her permission, “Just one day, Hyejoongie, trust me.” A horde of determination crawled onto his back at that moment as the thought of confessing his feelings did not seem too bad. "Just one day," he whispered with a small smile on his face.

Author's note:

Why did this become angsty? Gosh... It went well for Yoongi with all the fluffiness. Does the word, 'fluffiness' even exist?=.=' So, Taehyung's drabble. I was going to make the girl have family issues and have Taehyung as her only source of comfort. Yeah~~ Now I get why it can't be fluffy *shakes head* I'll make the next drabble to be fluffy then>< Leave some comments on what you think about this update^_~

Chapter 7: These drabbles were really well written. Yeah, maybe a few grammar mistakes here and there but nothing out of the ordinary.

I really enjoyed reading these, especially Jimin's~ Even though V is my biased. :]

Chapter 7: I cried along the whole story, omg. I really liked Hoseok's, since he's my bias and I deal with depression and self harm too ;_; my god, keep writing, your writing style is awesome!
And I'm not used to this genre, I'm more used to boyxboy, but this is nice!

Loved this one-shot series to bits! I liked how you kept the details at a minimal for each chapter where it wasn't too much for a one-shot to read but just enough to give room for the readers' imagination, great job! :)
