Foreword

OUT IN FIVE.

ROGER.

That was the signal. He dropped all the small gems and headed towards the nearest window. They were small fry, and they would only be a burden; Jaejoong was never one to be taken down by greed. He reached the window, easing the glass up smoothly. The sound of someone coughing made him pause in his ministrations. Looking to the right, he saw a tall man clad in a business suit, at the end of the darkened hallway, gleaming eyes staring right at him.

“Sure you won’t die from the fall?” The man inquired, smiling widely. Jaejoong barely spared him a glance.

“It’s only the fiftieth floor.”

“The forty ninth, to be exact.”

“Well, Mr. Tuxedo, there’s no need to be a nit-pick.”

“I’m just being accurate. Isn’t precision an important aspect of your job?”

“You don’t even know what I do for a living.”

“You’re right- maybe you just like to hold my father’s antique vase in your hands.”

“That doesn’t mean anything.”

“Yes, well, it might just be a hobby instead. Tell me, do you like to steal?”

Jaejoong refused to answer. There was something sneaky about this stranger. He was going to have to find a way out of this; the appearance of this guy was not in the equation. Just as he was staring the man down, his walkie talkie buzzed to life.

“Youngwoon, hurry your out. They’re coming from the left in two minutes.” The voice was annoyed, not anxious yet. ‘Damn,’ Jaejoong thought. ‘Yoochun must not have a video feed of this area.’ Mr Tuxedo- or Shim- opened his mouth to respond, but Jaejoong cut him off. Best not to worry his worrywart of a friend unnecessarily.

“I’m on the way, but I want you to hold them off.”

“Jae, why-”

“Just do it.”

“… You have ten minutes.”

And then the connection broke off, leaving a heavy silence. Jaejoong looked at the man- who was still at the end of the darkened hallway- warily, but from what Jaejoong could make out in the darkness, the latter only looked mildly amused.

“Need more time, Jae?” He drawled, taking a few steps towards Jaejoong, his heels clicking on the marble floor. Said man stood his ground, his scowl the only indication of his annoyance. The other man seemed unperturbed by Jaejoong’s indifference, continuing his stalk towards Jaejoong.

‘Click, click, click’

“Think ten minutes is enough to get rid of me?” He was five meters away.

‘Click, click, click’

“Ten is plenty.” Four meters away.

‘Click, click, click’

“Short on words, are you?” Three.

‘Click, click, click.’

“You aren’t worth my breath.” Two.

‘Click’

‘Click’

‘Click’

Entering the ray of moonlight filtering through the window, the visage of the man in the suit was thrown into view. He was gorgeous, round brown eyes with a perfectly chiseled nose, pink lips, and auburn hair. Jaejoong would have found him attractive, if not for the smug lift of the lips. Those hateful lips began to move.

“I’m Chang-”

“And I’m leaving. Goodbye, Mr Shim.”

Jaejoong made an attempt to duck through the window, but Shim was next to him in a flash, grabbing his shoulders and yanking him back in.

“What in the world-? What is the matter with you?” Jaejoong snapped, trying to pull free of the vice-like grip. Shim was still smiling.

“You still have eight minutes.” The man told Jaejoong calmly, as if he would understand what that meant. Jaejoong sighed. He was getting really annoyed with this guy.

“Eight-what?” Jaejoong asked, exasperated.

The man’s grin did not falter. “You still have eight minutes before my men come running over. There’s no rush to leave, you see.”

“Well, I don’t see how standing here with you is any fun.”

“We could talk. My name is-”

“Stop. I don’t want to know your name. Would you just-”

“Fine, Jae, you don’t want my name.”

“Yes, I don’t so-”

Before he even realised it, the guy had pinned him to the wall next to the window and was sticking his tongue down his throat. At once, Jaejoong struggled, trying to push the man off him. The man only grew more persistent though, pressing closer to Jaejoong.

‘Oh god, this is not good.’ Jaejoong thought frantically. He could feel the other’s body heat, smell his scent, and the taste of the other man on his tongue was making him dizzy. At least he was covered in his suit from head to toe, but even that did not stop the burning feeling of Shim’s hands on him. Just as Jaejoong found himself reciprocating, Shim pulled back, smirking as he found a flushed Jaejoong in his arms, panting hard in hopes of getting back his breath.

“Said I wasn’t worth your breath? Well, you’re not the only thief here.” Shim said, his lips as Jaejoong regained his composure. He started backing away, turning back towards the dark hallway.

“Wait!” Jaejoong shouted, feeling awkward all of a sudden.

Shim paused in his step. “Yes?”

“You-you’re just going to walk away?” Jaejoong was bewildered; what was with this guy?

A smirk concealed by the darkness of the hallway. “I’ve decided to let you go once.”

“You never caught me.”

“Oh? If you say so.”

Jaejoong could only glare at the condescending tone the other man used.

“I can feel your stare, Jae. Better hurry though, one minute left.” And the mysterious man disappeared into the darkness.

“One-? !” And Jaejoong was out of the window, vase in hand.

What? Finished already? This story is good. I love thief Jae! Other authors tend to make Jaejoong a weakling which is boring me to death. Any fic with strong Jae is a gem. And Jaecas a thief is even better. Please continue.
