Chapter 1

Thorns

"Star crossed lovers?" I snorted, earning a glare from my friend HwaYoung. We were currently having a crazy conversation all about Romeo and Juliet.

“Yeah can’t you see it?” She asked her eyes practically shining; I rolled my eyes at her childishness.

“Not really – I mean how stupid, they both die in the end.” My other friend Ari added, jumping onto a desktop. HwaYoung pouted and glared at us; I playfully slapped her arm and gave her a smile.

“Come one Hwa-ah don’t be like that. You can believe whatever you to but we don’t believe that star crossed lovers exist.” I smiled, HwaYoung pouted and crossed her arms acting like a petulant child not getting her way.

“Okay, okay.”

“Anyway, it looks like the new gang decided to show up.” MiCha piped up, pointing out the window. We all stood up and walked over to her, where we examined the remains of fighting.

“Looks like it.” Ari added staring intensely at the destruction left behind. I turned around and headed to the closest desk and sat on top of it.

“This is should be fun.” The others nodded their heads and smirked. It had been a long while since we had a good fight. The thought that someone wanted to challenge us was something that had everyone’s adrenaline pumping. It had my heart beating faster; yet, excitement bubbled in this terrifying feeling that lingered in my chest.

“Just got a text, Infinite’s down.” Ari read aloud from her phone, informing us of the current situation.

“Let’s do this!” MiCha grinned, reaching down to grab her gun from her bag.

“Guys I really don’t want to do this. I don’t feel like fighting today. Can’t they – I mean can’t we just talk things out with them?” HwaYoung asked, trying to use a cuteness that she lacked. I closed my eyes and sighed at her; her constant pestering could be so immature.

“We can try.” I muttered reluctantly, right as the door flew to the ground. We all turned to look at the door lying on the tile floor; a red headed boy was standing on top of it. It was obvious that the boy kicked the door down, but why; it’s not like we keep it locked.

“Sir, was that very necessary? Why did you feel the need to knock the door down? You could’ve knocked or even – I don’t know. Opened the dang door!”

The boy never once said anything but he did look up at us, a cold, icy gleam in his eye. Another boy, one with blue hair stepped in front of him, others following after.

“It gets people’s attention.” Blue boy explained, giving us an arrogant smirk. I glared at him and crossed my arms, he had to be a conceited idiot based off of first impressions.

“Well not in a good way, more like you want to get your beat.” Ari hissed at him, slyly grabbed her bat from her beside her bag.

“That’s the point.” Another – more cocky boy spoke up.

Okay, that’s it. They are so annoying and stupid, I thought to myself as I watched them carefully.

“Well then let’s get this thing started!” MiCha grinned; Ari swung her bat around in anticipation.

“JB I’m tired!” The shortest person of their group whined. The blue haired boy, now named JB, sighed and closed his eyes.

“BamBam not right now.” He sneered turning to look at said boy. I rolled my eyes at them and shook my head; this was becoming absolutely ridiculous.

"But JB~" The boy whined again. I groaned closed my eyes; he’s no better than Hwa-Young.

"Let's worry about this another time then." HwaYoung opted, trying her best to avoid fighting; Ari scoffed at her lousy attempt to avoid the fight and interrupted her.

"No today or no day. I'm in a good mood." MiCha nodded her head in agreement. HwaYoung pouted and crossed her arms over her chest, even though she pouts all the time and acts like a child she is the oldest out of the four of us. She is also highly dangerous and deadly when she has to be, as well as completely bonkers too boot.

"Let's leave." The Red-haired boy added waiting for the leader to agree.

"Fine! We'll be back though." He threatened us as the gang all backed out of the room. The red-haired boy was the last to leave, glaring at us as he exited the room, his back never facing us.

"." I whispered, turning to the closest desk in sitting on top of it. Ari went over to a desk and sat on it while venting out her frustrations.

"Urgh! Why?!" I looked at her I couldn’t help but grin. Ari was the youngest but the title didn't always fit her, only when there's not a fight.

"Calm yourself down woman." MiCha added, calmly sitting down. She is the no drama or complaining person, which we needed, all the time. Surprisingly she is only older then Ari by one week and yet they are complete opposites.

"No! I wanted to fight them~" She complained, jumping on the closest desk swinging her legs.

"Well I didn't want to mess up my outfit… So yeah." HwaYoung added, throwing her hair over her shoulder. I roll my eyes and at her, muttering a quiet insult.

"So you'll never guess what my spy just told me." Ari sang an evil grin appearing on her face.

"What did your spy tell you?" I asked feeling very bored. She grinned once again and she received another text.

"A girl gang is trying to claim our area." A smirk appeared on her face.

"Which one?" MiCha snorted smug look of satisfaction on her face.

"Closest to my favorite shopping street." Ari replied, a smile gracing her model like face.

"And you're happy why?" HwaYoung asked while furrowing her eyebrows.

"After we beat them we can get new clothes, duh!" She explained as if it was the simplest thing in the world. I laugh at MiCha as she exaggerated the facial expressions of Ari.

"Okay, let's go!" HwaYoung sang as she skipped to the door. She never wanted to fight the male gangs but whenever a female gang pops up she is always willing to fight them-even on her worst days.

We all walked out from the room passing through an empty bloody hallway so that we could calmly exit the school. When a hand reached out and pulled me into a room, it was the redheaded boy from earlier.

"Where you going?" He demanded slamming his fists on the wall next to me. I looked at him with a frown, a tinge of fear- and a fraction of excitement racing through my veins.

Don’t show him, I whispered to myself, not willing to show him how weak I truly was.

"None of your business, sir." I spat glaring at him, begging my voice to stay firm.

"My name is Mark, not sir and it is my business missy."

"It really isn't, MARK." I sneered at him; he rolled his eyes and leaned closer, his lips centimeters from mine.

"We're fighting later – you can't leave." He growled his fist getting closer to my face. I rolled my eyes and shoved him backwards.

"Yeah, later. It could mean today, tomorrow, next week, next year." I said as I walked out of the room, my hands and legs shaking. It was very soon afterwards that I caught up with the girls. They didn't look too pleased with my absence but we continued on our way.

I was wearing new white shoes, my favorite new pair, which somehow had gotten blood on them, most likely from our journey down the bloody hallway. HwaYoung smiled, grinning as she turned around the corner.

“I want new shirts. The school uniform is so gross~" Ari complained, swirling her bat as we saw the group of girls. I nodded my head and watched them.

"Get off our territory! This is the fifth time we caught you trying to do this, we're not gonna play nice anymore." MiCha growled, glaring at the five girls.

"Says who? You? Bull! This is our territory." An awfully annoying girl said. She made me mad just hearing her voice.

"Dibs.” I whispered, trying to contain my irritation.

"Like you could take me." She said while pulling out a gun. I nodded my head and held my emotions in my head; gosh she was annoying.

"Anytime, any day, anywhere and I would still live." I sneered smirking in her direction, MiCha and Ari chuckled.

"Oh I think you mean win JangMi." HwaYoung added, like I had said the wrong thing on accident; my smirk grew and I shook my head.

"No, I meant live."

"Why you !" The girl, RiNa, screamed firing her gun at me.

"RiNa we got the others!" A quiet looking girl shouted.

"Nope we got you!" Ari said hitting her in the back of the head with a bat.

While the annoying girl, RiNa, was distracted I threw the gun away from her. That took her back to reality and she tackled me to the ground. But I punched her in the jaw and crawled towards the gun. She took out a dagger from her pocket and tried to stab me.

"Not so fast ." MiCha hissed now holding the gun in her hand. RiNa slammed the knife down into my side and MiCha fired the gun. The bullet hit her in her shoulder and she fell. The girls helped me up.

"Die !" She hissed as she pulled the trigger until the gun was empty. A smug look was on HwaYoung's face.

“Now let's go shopping!" She cheered walking away, but our amusement she tripped over one of the girl’s bodies.

"See I told you wearing those heels you were going to trip." MiCha commented in between her fits of laughter. I nodded my head and continued to try to muffle the girls laughter.

What kind of sickos are we? Laughing around dead bodies…

"Oh beautiful are you alright?" A somewhat manly voice asked, running up to her from behind us. I cocked my head to the side waiting to see who spoke.

"My dear are you alright?" The boy asked bending down to help her stand up. Carefully I studied the boy and the other two did as well.

"I'm okay." She eyed the boy; it was like they were in world of their own.

"Hey you!" A painfully familiar voice shouted from behind us. I turned around and glared at him.

"What is it Mark?" I asked rolling my eyes and cringing.

"Without warning, you did this?" He asked pointing at the bodies around us. I nodded my head and made my hands move to my wound. "Amazing!" He muttered a glint coming to his eyes.

I shook my head and turned around to leave, but a hand stopped me. The winey boy from earlier was looking at me with a pout and on the inside I couldn't help but given.

"What?" I quietly asked him, his pouted turned into a smile and I held in an ‘Awe’. From the corner of my eyes I saw the girls’ rolls their eyes but I knew they found him adorable as well.

"Your hurt." He stated.

"I am – your point is?" I asked him cringing because he touches the wound.

"Let me help you." My pain was obviously speaking for me because I muttered a quiet yes and he took me over to the side. He hummed when he lifted up his shirt to examine the wound. I closed my eyes when he pulled out a medical kit from his backpack.

"I'm going to stitch it up okay?" Once again I'm out of my head and I took a deep breath as I nodded my head.

"Ahhh!" I hissed when the needle pierced my skin. It hurt but compared to what I've been through before, I could handle this.

"You’re handling this well, usually I people crying and screaming." He spoke, a childlike glee in his voice.

"That's because you're usually seeing them up to torture them, not to help them." The tallest one quipped. I gasped and opened my eyes. Mark was staring at me intently and I stared at him, a warmish feeling invading my sternum.

"So you did a number on these girls." JB grinned, and MiCha nodded her head in agreement.

"I don't believe we got your names." The tallest one smiled, I didn't trust him the most. He was too friendly, but then again maybe being friendly wasn’t necessarily a bad thing to be.

"MiCha."

"Ari."

"HwaYoung, here!"

"JangMi!" I added sharply as he pushed the needle through my skin again, this time for the finishing touches.

“I’m wondering. Why don’t you go the hospital?” Mark sighed as he pulled me off the ground. I slowly shook my head and stared at him.

“Why don’t you?” I asked him, while teetering over to the girls.

“Cause we’re a gang.” He stated as if it was the most obvious thing in the world, turning back towards his friends.

“There’s your answer, you idiot.” I grinned giving one last look at the group before turning around. Mark hummed and I swear I could picture him smiling right as he spoke.

“I’m not an Idiot.” I grinned and we turned the corner and I listened to what the girls talked about.

“This could be fun.” MiCha grinned; I nodded my head along with Ari and HwaYoung.

“Or they could be sneaky and wanting-“

“Oh please~ Not everyone wants to take something from us Ari. Calm down.” MiCha interrupted, earning a glare from Ari.

“Can we go home? Y’all can go shopping afterwards but I don’t think I can.” I whispered as I felt the wound throb. They nodded their heads and helped me walk home.

“We’ll be back later.” Ari said as they walked towards the door. I nodded my head as I lay on the couch, listening to them leave, the door shutting.

I was finally alone with just my thoughts and me. Mark seemed different from the rest of his gang but whether it was a good different or bad different I had no clue.

“Let the games begin.”
