Foreword
“Junhyung, your mother just left. I brought a very unhealthy breakfast so you better get up” Min called out as she opened the door to Junhyung’s room. Min entered the dark room and sighed when she saw that Junhyung was still in bed. Junhyung had never been a morning person.
“It’s past 10am, Junhyung. Get up” Min flicked the lights on and set the bag of food on his coffee table. “Come on. You need to eat breakfast” Junhyung didn’t budge. She huffed and went over to the window next to him and pulled the curtains so sunlight would come into the room.
“All right, last warning” She waited, but Junhyung didn’t move. Min pulled the covers off his body and was surprised when an object flew out. “Did you sleep with your phone again?” She mumbled, walking over and picking up the white object.
Min furrowed her eyebrows as she examined the medicine container. “What is this?” She murmured, then looked down at the floor where blue pills were scattered.
She felt her stomach drop “Junhyung” She quickly turned around and jumped on his bed. “Junhyung, wake up” She whispered, shaking him softly. “Junhyung!” Her voice rose. She shook him harder, “Junhyung!” She slapped him, but Junhyung didn’t move. Min began to breath heavily. She put a hand on her chest and tried to take in deep breaths, but pushed aside the feeling of suffocation and reached for her phone.
“911, what’s your emergency?” “M-my …..boyfriend took some….sleeping pills” Min managed to breath out, “What is your location?” “I….I” Min said, feeling suddenly dizzy. She dropped her phone and pressed a hand on her forehead. Calm down. Calm down. She recited in her head. She couldn’t have a panic attack when Junhyung was dying. She could faintly hear the woman’s voice on the other end, but she wasn’t able to speak. After taking a few deep breaths she picked up the phone again, “Ma’m can you check if he’s breathing?” Min put her ear to his chest and felt hot tears roll down her face.
“He’s still breathing! He’s still alive!”

“Is he awake yet?” Min asked the nurse that stepped out of Junhyung’s room. “Yes, he’s awake” She answered, putting the stethoscope around her neck, “His mother said she can’t find a plane back home and his father is on his way. They gave you permission to see him” Min nodded and bit her tongue. She couldn’t think about his parents at the moment, it would only make the situation worse. She could see him and for now that was enough.
“Hey” Min said softly entering the room. Junhyung’s smiled weakly. Upon seeing his appearance, Min’s eyes began to water, but instead she held it in and went to sit down on his bed. She took his hand and gave him a small smile “I’m sorry,” He said, tightening his grip on her hand. “ “I’m stupid” he chuckled. Min frowned and wiped the stray tears rolling down his cheeks.
Min understood the stress Junhyung goes through whenever his mother is home. Junhyung’s parents weren’t the ideal guardians, in fact Min always believed that they never cared for their son’s well being and instead saw him as a robot destined to take over the family medical clinic. They pushed him and Min feared that they would eventually push him too far.
“I-I wasn’t thinking. I was so stupid. I’m sorry” Junhyung continued, but Min shook her head. “I’m just glad you’re okay” She kept her voice low, she didn’t want to unleash the anger she felt or the tears she was holding in. “Really glad” Junhyung looked at her with pained eyes. He felt ashamed that he had put her through this. He was always relying on her and he felt useless that he didn’t have the strength to return the favor “Don’t worry. It won’t happen again” Junhyung said, kissing her forehead lightly “Okay” Min said softly, closing her eyes as her boyfriends lips lingered on her forehead.
