Epilogue

Arabesque

Author’s Note: So…yeah this bugged me until it was written. I thought I was done with these two for a little while, but then this little side of crack took over my brain and spilled onto the page. It is so very fluffy and cute, so if you are sensitive to sweets, you may want to proceed with caution into this gloriously cheesy fluff. For all of you who wanted to see Kaisoo share the ice for a couple’s routine (even if it is only practice) this is for you!

A big thank you to doitlikethis123 for putting this thought in my head back at chapter 1! I hope you enjoy this little rendition of that thought!

So, here is the small, and hopefully humorous, epilogue.

Enjoy!

Seven Months Later

There were many things Kyungsoo had compromised on upon entering a relationship with Jongin, especially when they began cohabitating five months into the relationship. On the tail-end of seven months now, he now had some changes in his life. He no longer had complete reign of the remote control, or “channel changer” as Jongin called it, during prime time television. He had to schedule his morning routines in the bathroom around Jongin’s, which actually was surprisingly similar to his. He had to pick a side of the bed to commit to fully, no longer able to sleep in the center.

And for the most part, those small compromises were not the end of the world, and Kyungsoo handled them rather well because Jongin was making sacrifices as well, such as that ratty old recliner he had brought to Kyungsoo’s apartment, hell-bent on keeping the chair only to watch it drive away on the back of a truck, never to be seen again. Kyungsoo had made it up to him by buying him a new recliner, and the matter was never mentioned again.

Among the things he and Jongin had given up as individuals, they had gotten even more as a couple. As much as Jongin tested him, he supported him even more, and Kyungsoo had not been lying when he told the younger man he loved him after a whirlwind three months, because if he had held it in any longer his insides would have ruptured from the building pressure. And Jongin’s awestruck smile and answering kiss that had led to a more physical declaration of his love for Kyungsoo had been worth all of the things that Kyungsoo had given up.

But among these sacrifices and compromises, there were times where Kyungsoo felt he had to draw the line.

And this, being manhandled on his hometown ice, happened to be one of those times.

“No.” Kyungsoo did his best to put every ounce of done with your into his words, but Jongin never heeded his warnings.

He obviously wasn’t listening now, tugging his boyfriend further out on the ice. A remarkable feat as Kyungsoo had made himself deadweight, refusing to help the younger man. Kyungsoo couldn’t remember his name having five syllables, but Jongin had somehow managed to make it that way as he whined out his complaints. “But Kyungsoo, it will be fun.”

“For who?” Kyungsoo said with a scoff. “Because I believe out of all of the half-cooked ideas you have come up with, this is quite possible the least fun of them all.”

“You love ice skating.”

“I love ice skating alone, Jongin. I do not do partner skates.”

“You’ve never done a partner skate with me, and you love me too much to deny me the simple joy of gliding alongside of you,” Jongin countered, “and it isn’t even a full routine.”

“I do love you, Jongin, but that does not mean I want to do an ice dance routine with you.”

“We don’t have to do anything but skate next to one another, maybe one lift at the end if you are interested,” Jongin insisted as he continued to pull him along, “so how do you know you won’t enjoy it?”

“Because unlike you other partners, I am not a female, in case you have forgotten,” Kyungsoo snapped, trying and failing to pull his hand from the others grip.

Jongin sent him a leering grin at those words, yanking Kyungsoo further into his chest as he continued pushing them towards the center. “Oh, I know you are not female,” Jongin whispered, his voice dropping to a lower octave as the words poured into Kyungsoo’s ear. “But I can check later to make sure, if you want.”

Kyungsoo swatted at the other man’s chest, his face burning with the blush that was undoubtedly there. Really, Jongin’s…needs were insatiable. Ever since they had made that leap in their relationship, Jongin had had a hard time staying away from Kyungsoo. Not that Kyungsoo really minded; in fact, he enjoyed the attention more than he cared to admit in public.

Regardless, now was not the time for heated promises. “I have a competition coming up in two days, Jongin. I need to be able to walk properly to skate.”

Jongin laughed, but backed off enough to give Kyungsoo a little more room to breathe. “You are still skating with me.”

Now it was Kyungsoo’s turn to whine. “Jongin, please.”

“One skate,” Jongin promised, holding up his index finger as if the gesture would solidify the words, “and I will never ask again.”

Kyungsoo sighed, letting his eyes scan the ice. He had practiced here for years, and never had he thought it would be the place where he officially signed over his rights to his manhood.

“You swear? Never again?”

“Unless you want to, of course,” Jongin said a nod.

“Unlikely.”

“Is that a yes?” Jongin asked, flashing his widest smile at the other. Damn that smile. Kyungsoo had never been able to deny it, and Jongin knew that all too well.

With a groan, Kyungsoo rolled his eyes. “Fine, but if you tell anyone I will end you, you got that?”

Jongin laughed, swooping down to press his lips to Kyungsoo’s quickly before pulling back. “You won’t regret it.”

“Again, unlikely.”

“Just wait right here,” Jongin said before quickly gliding over to the radio, pressing play before moving back to Kyungsoo, who stood defeated in the center of the rink. Kyungsoo felt Jongin’s hand taking his, lifting it up as his other hand fell onto Kyungsoo’s waist, pulling him just close enough to where the older man had to crane his neck back to look him in the eye.

“Follow my lead,” Jongin instructed with a smirk, to which Kyungsoo only rolled his eyes once more before reluctantly nodding.

When the music started up, Kyungsoo stared at Jongin with wide-eyes, laughing despite his intention to show his disapproval of the dance. How could he, though, when Frank Sinatra’s “I’ve Got You Under My Skin” was pouring out of the speakers? He had made a stray comment to Jongin about a month ago, while out to eat at a restaurant whose background music was largely jazz, that he had a pretty big collection of Sinatra on his iPod. Jongin had commented on it briefly, but Kyungsoo had never considered he was actually paying that much attention. Obviously, Kyungsoo had been wrong.

Jongin looked like the cat who got the cream as he smiled down at Kyungsoo. “Did I pick a good one?”

“Yes,” Kyungsoo said, raising his eyebrow at his boyfriend in suspicion. “How long have you been planning this?”

“Long enough,” Jongin said with a shrug, and before Kyungsoo could comment they began to move, releasing Kyungsoo’s waist in favor of skating to the side of him.

Jongin kept true to his word, sticking to some easy steps that Kyungsoo had remembered from the time he had been paired with a girl for partners in his early training days. That time had been a train wreck, with Kyungsoo too stiff and the girl too ditzy, but this time Kyungsoo was not in charge of leading, and Jongin was much more capable.

Jongin was born for ice dancing. It was in the way he held himself, the way he held his partner. He had a gift for anticipating what his dance partner would do before they would do it, and he glided alongside Kyungsoo without any effort at all. Kyungsoo could feel the tension in his body slowly releasing as he listened to the music.

Though he tried to ignore it, Kyungsoo was in awe of the emotion in Jongin’s gestures. He’d always enjoyed watching the younger skate, but skating with him was almost surreal. It didn’t help that he could feel Jongin’s light touches throughout the skate. At first it was only out of guidance, steering Kyungsoo or steadying him when he got a little shaky. But then, the touches lingered. A hand on his lower back. Fingers running the length of his side. Kyungsoo could feel himself getting flustered, but he couldn’t help but lean into each touch, craving the way his body hummed with excitement from ever swipe of Jongin’s hand.

Maybe ice dancing wasn’t as bad as he thought.

“Want to try a lift?” Jongin asked as he took Kyungsoo’s hand near the end of the song, skating ahead of him ever so slightly.

Kyungsoo’s nerves were back with a vengeance as he processed the question. “I-I don’t know, Jongin-ah. I wouldn’t know the positioning.”

“It’s easy,” Jongin assured him with a gentle smile. “I’ll pick you up in a simple carry, we spin, and I put you back down. But if you don’t want to try, we don’t have to.”

Kyungsoo took a deep breath, looking at Jongin’s face as he made a decision that he just knew would bite him in the later but one he could not help but make.

“Okay,” he said with a shaky nod. “But don’t you dare drop me.”

“Never,” Jongin promised with a grin, looking back towards the open rink before gripping Kyungsoo’s hand tighter. “We’ll go around the curve, and when we are in the stretch I will pull you closer. When I lift, you grab my shoulders, okay?”

Kyungsoo nodded, leaning into the curve as they rounded it, holding onto Jongin’s hand like a lifeline. When they reached the stretch, Jongin tugged him closer, his free hand dropping to hook under Kyungsoo’s legs and picking him up in one swift motion. Kyungsoo couldn’t help but yelp as his hand rose to hook around Jongin’s neck, foregoing the shoulders. The younger skater only laughed, holding Kyungsoo closer as they spun.

Eventually, Kyungsoo laughed as well, leaning his head back against Jongin’s shoulder. When they stopped spinning, the music having come to an end, Kyungsoo looked up at Jongin with a bright smile.

“Okay,” he started, “I admit that was fun. Now put me down.”

Jongin chuckled, lowering Kyungsoo to the ice before straightening back up and cupping the older skater’s face in his hands. “Thank you for skating with me,” he said softly, shooting the older man a wink as he kissed his forehead.

Kyungsoo smiled at the brush of lips on his skin and went to answer, but paused as he saw the look that crossed Jongin’s eyes. He knew that look. It was the look he always had when he knew something Kyungsoo didn’t know. It was the look that he had when he knew he was about to be in trouble.

“Jongin,” Kyungsoo swallowed thickly, narrowing his eyes ever so slightly. “What did you do?”

Right on cue, Jongin reached forward to wrap his arms around Kyungsoo, twisting the shorter man until Kyungsoo’s back was pressed into the younger’s strong chest. “But we can’t end a routine without receiving a proper score from the judges.”

Kyungsoo was surprised his eyes had not popped out of his head and rolled across the ice when he saw a row of familiar people sitting just behind the wall. Joonmyun, Soojung, Jinri and Jieun all smiled at the pair of them. At Jongin’s introduction, they stood, each clapping loudly with approval, and Kyungsoo inwardly panicked.

He twisted his body, trying to get away from Jongin and away from the rink, but Jongin’s arms had locked into pace around his midsection. No matter how hard he tried to get away, he couldn’t break the hold, so he settled for covering his face with his hands and trying desperately to sink into the ice.

“You are sleeping on the couch tonight,” Kyungsoo threatened in a low voice, sneering as Jongin’s body shook with laughter.

“Don’t be like that. These are our friends,” Jongin insisted, pressing a soft kiss into Kyungsoo’s hair. “They heard I was trying to get you to skate with me, and they just wanted to watch. What’s the harm in that?”

You were not the girl’s role,” Kyungsoo snapped back, refusing to look up from his hands.

“Kyungsoo-yah! Don’t be embarrassed!” Joonmyun voice boomed from across the rink. “You did great out there with Jongin!”

“Hyung, stop,” Kyungsoo whined pathetically, earning another round of laughter from the group.

“Judges, what is our score?” Jongin asked, pushing him and Kyungsoo closer to them despite Kyungsoo’s valiant effort to dig his blades into the ice.

“Well, Kyungsoo-sunbae started out a little shaky,” Soojung said with a giggle.

“And Jongin broke protocol and couldn’t keep his hands to himself,” Jieun added, earning a snort from Jongin.

“But the music was a good choice,” Joonmyun countered. Jongin managed to pry Kyungsoo’s hands away from his face, whispering reassurances. When he finally managed to look up, Joonmyun sent him a soft smile. “And Kyungsoo did well for his first couple’s skate with Jongin.”

“Plus, that lift was the highlight of the whole routine,” Jinri finished with a small clap of excitement. “Did you see how happy they both were? It was adorable.”

Could a person get heat exhaustion from blushing? Kyungsoo was starting to believe he would be the first if they kept going with this. And Jongin nuzzling his nose against his ear was not helping matters at all.

“So, judges, huddle,” Joonmyun ordered, four heads coming together in mock consideration. When their decision had been made, they broke apart once more, Joonmyun clearing his throat as Kyungsoo waited for the score like a man waiting on death row.

“Drum roll, please.”

The girl tapped out a quick tempo on the wall, laughing all the while.

“Jongin and Kyungsoo, you get,” he paused for dramatic effect, “a 9.5!”

“Why not a 10?” Jongin immediately protested, playful disbelief in his voice.

“You were docked for constantly touching Kyungsoo,” Joonmyun teased, earning a loud boo from the other man, even though both were laughing.

“Alright,” Kyungsoo spoke up, “You’ve had your fun. Now let me go.”

Jongin did as he asked, but not before stealing one last kiss from Kyungsoo’s lips, earning a round of cat calls from the mock-judges. Kyungsoo sent him a playful glare, but couldn’t stop the smile from creeping across his face as the others rushed the ice, slipping and sliding because they had ventured out onto the surface without skates.

Joonmyun reached him first, ruffling his hair as he threw his arm around his shoulders. “Don’t be mad,” he whispered, knowing Kyungsoo was still struggling with his embarrassment. “We all care for you, and we only wanted to watch you skate with your boyfriend. And it was pretty cute, Kyungsoo-yah. I’m so happy for you.”

Kyungsoo pushed him in the gut, but nodded as a chuckle escaped him. He was still mortified, but things could be worse, he supposed. He couldn’t think of how it could be worse at the moment, but he was sure it could be. Joonmyun smiled in approval of Kyungsoo’s acceptance before looking up at Jongin, who stood watching the exchange with a smirk.

The girls joined the group, laughing and smiling as Jongin pulled Kyungsoo back to his side the minute Joonmyun released him.

“Are you still upset with me?” he whispered, squeezing Kyungsoo’s side gently.

“No, I guess not,” Kyungsoo replied, biting his lip as a smile worked its way across his face. “Even if you cost us a perfect score.”

Jongin groaned at the small dig, chuckling under his breath. “I got carried away in my excitement. Forgive me.” After a moment, he added, “Am I still banished from the bed?”

Kyungsoo didn’t fight the smile this time, laughing at the pitiful whine in his voice. This was quite possibly the only thing Jongin absolutely loathed. But luckily for him, Kyungsoo wasn’t going to reinforce it. “No, you can stay in the bed with me. I don’t sleep well without you anymore, so it would be punishment for me too.”

Even without looking at him, Kyungsoo could feel the force of the younger man’s smile as he propped his chin on the top of Kyungsoo’s head. “I love you,” he said gently.

“I love you too,” Kyungsoo responded quietly, letting himself fall into the other’s chest as he listened to his ever expanding group of friends and teammates chat with one another. And Jongin, bless him, could not rid himself of his smile. He had clearly been planning this skate for a while, and now that Kyungsoo had skated with him he was unable to hide his excitement.

He guessed he could make yet another small compromise if it made Jongin happy.

Author’s Note: Okay, seriously this time. This. Story. Is. Done. Okay, I’m going to thaw my face, from where the smile has been frozen in place. My cheeks are hurting from writing this, seriously.

I hope you all enjoyed it!

Until next time,

Meg
