I ran up to Sehun before he could sit down at the table again and wrapped my arms around his. With a huge smile on my face, I looked up to Sehun then to Luhan and announced the new of Luhan attending class soon.
I expected Luhan to react excitedly to this news, since he had always asked me to spend more time with him. However, what I saw was the complete opposite.
"Oh, that's great." Luhan's shoulders were slumped and he looked rather dejected rather than anywhere near excitement.
At this, I didn't feel as excited either. I let go of Sehun's arms and walked towards Luhan. Placing a hand on his shoulder, I tried to ask what was wrong but he would only look away.
"I got to go." Sehun picked up his jacket from the chair. "You're moving in with me by tomorrow night before you get your own dorm." Sehun nodded towards Luhan, "in the meantime, don't do anything weird."
I knew exactly what he was referring to by weird, but I don't think Luhan understands. Which was a relief because I would have killed Sehun for acting like such an unnecessary and embarrassing parent.
As soon as Sehun stepped out of the room, Luhan turned to me with those sad puppy eyes. "What did he mean by moving out?"
"Sehun just thought it'd be better for you to live with him for the meantime before you get placed into your own dormitory after your enrollment." I explained simply as I put away the used mugs to the sink.
Turning on the tap, I let the water wash away the residue. It wasn't until I finished and turned around to Luhan that I saw his eyes were watering and lips quivering.
I quickly went over to his side. "Luhan," I cooed, "What's wrong?"
Luhan refused to meet my gaze, which told me whatever he was upset with had to do with me. I put a hand on his arm and the other on his cheek.
"Tell me." I whispered softly as not to startle the boy.
Finally, with enough convincing, Luhan looked up at me with those glassy eyes and spoke with a shaky voice, "Are you kicking me out because you don't like me?"
I gasped. Not sure whether I should laugh or cry at such a ridiculous outburst and accusation. But judging by his serious look, i decided not to make the situation worse by mocking him. So I did the thing I always do whenever Luhan cried, or was close to tears, I hugged him.
"I would never." I ran my hands up and down his back in order to comfort him. "It's not like that--"
Luhan pulled away and looked at me with his tears-smudged doe-like-eyes. "...Do you like Sehun more than me?"
I blinked a few times as I stood there dumbfounded, realizing what this was about now. Luhan was jealous. Whether he realized it or not, or whether it was because of romantic feelings or pet-owner feelings.
"You and Sehun are both different," I explained as slowly and carefully as I could. "I've known Sehun for so long and he always looks after me, but you're someone I want to protect."
Luhan looked at me for a moment, and I honestly had thought he understood what I was saying, that he and Sehun were two completely different people in which I would treat differently. With Sehun I could probably have a cuter side of myself showing in order to beg for what I wanted from him. With Luhan, I acted more so as a guardian who helps and guilds Luhan with the ways of this world.
I had honestly thought Luhan understood that. but apparently not by what he said next.
"So you do like Sehun more." He sighed dejectedly.
"I never said that!" I defended.
"But you meant it that way!” Luhan argument back with a pout. "Just because I don't fully understand everything in this world doesn't mean I can't protect you and look after you too."
"I-I" I opened and closed my mouth, unable to gather any words together. A sudden confession from Luhan like this made me speechless and made my heart sped up faster than I thought it was possible.
Taking advantage of my blank state, Luhan wrapped his arms around my head and pulled me towards his chest. I'd always known Luhan was relatively tall, but it wasn't until this moment that I realized exactly how tall he really was. From our height difference, my head rested exactly on his chest. That was our sad height difference. Yet somehow, it felt nice. No matter how naive Luhan was, I really did feel protected at that moment.
Slowly, I closed my eyes and raised my hands up to wrap them around his waist. "Thank you, Luhan." I whispered as my cheeks flushed pink in his embrace.
When I started to feel awkward, I pulled back. "A-anyway, I should probably take a shower..." I inwardly
