A fitting end.
You know these always come about when someone pisses me off. Someone pissed me off.
So there’s this story I read. The premise hooked me. I, jaded reader that I am, was intrigued. Then the first chapter was posted. Yes. Great. Sure to be some tortured, angst filled goodness. Just what I was in the mood for.
Second chapter-the drama! Yaaaassssss! Ooooo, was about to go DOWN!.
Third chapter. I was stoked when I saw that it was updated. I read it, got to the end and was already jonesing for the next chapter. I just KNEW that when she posted the fourth chapter, it was going to be FIRE.
But there will be no fourth chapter. The end just had a long author note about how much she likes ‘ambiguous endings.’
What the hell?
Still not believing it, I look at the sub list and see the story is marked complete.
What?!
No!!!
There wasn’t enough!!!
Okay. Seriously. There is a difference between an open ending, a cliffhanger, and no ending. An open ending has given you all the information necessary for you to draw your own conclusion. It’s not a final, ‘and they lived happily ever after.’ It’s more of a, ‘they’ve been through some things, they’re going to try to make it work from here on out. They're in a good place.’ THAT! Is an open ending. Telling you what happens without implicitly telling. Make sense?
