Chapter 4

The Fortune-Teller Said That You're My Future Husband

Chanyeol really didn’t know what had possesed him back there. Really. How the hell can he do that. Confessing in front of hundreds of people; students, teachers, school’s committee. Not to mention, the way he confessed....

I’m your future husband.

It was true. Chanyeol thought that he was the dumbest person on the earth. He wasn't dreaming. He really did it. And his friends also confirmed it.

“What the hell were you doing?” Kris snapped on him at class. Chanyeol couldn’t be more grateful that he was in the same class with Kris. He needed someone to talk to, and someone who wasn’t Jongin because Jongin definitely had told bad things about him.

“Kris, what have I done.” It wasn’t really a question.

“Yeah, dude, what have you done?!” Kris couldn't care less at the stares from the other students in class. He was standing beside Chanyeol whose head was tuck on the desk. Drowning in his misery and stupidity. “I didn’t even know that you have a thing with the president.”

“I wasn’t, okay?” Chanyeol lifted his head up and looked at the tower stood beside him. “It just started yesterday.”

Kris lifted his eyebrows, “Wow, so you just liked him yesterday and you already decided to marry him? Wow...” Kris shook his head in disbelief, “...Chanyeol, you’re impossible.”

“It’s not—“ Chanyeol wanted to argue but he didn’t have any strength. The first period of the day hadn’t even started but he's already exhausted. “It’s a long story, okay? Don’t judge me.”

“Who wouldn’t judge you after that, anyway? Every ing person in school are judging you.”

“Not helping, Kris.” Chanyeol buried his face again on his desk, feeling sick right in his stomach.

“You’re lucky that he said yes directly, Yeol. Wow, honestly, I think he’s just as dumb as you.” Kris said as he crossed his arm across his chest. Looking at how desprate Chanyeol was, he decided to stop throwing anymore mean comments at him. “It was a great show by the way. Be ready to become the people’s talk for the rest of semester, dude.” Kris patted Chanyeol’s shoulder and he left to his own seat at front of the class.

Chanyeol let out a heavy sigh. Kris was right. He was really crazy and dumb, and he was extremely lucky that Baekhyun said yes. He didn’t even understand how someone could say yes to that kind of confession. But then Chanyeol remembered what Baekhyun said afterwards.

Yes, Baekhyun only said yes because he didn’t want to embarrass Chanyeol and he wanted to talk to Chanyeol later. Chanyeol sighed again. Maybe Baekhyun will dump him, he thought.

But Chanyeol couldn’t help but smile to the thought of Baekhyun was now his boyfriend.

~

Baekhyun’s heart was still thumping really hard even if the class had already started halfway. The first period class was his favorite subject, literature, but he couldn’t manage to put his attention altogether at the subject. It was kinda hard to do that if you just got confessed by someone in front of the whole school.

He wasn’t embarrassed. No. He was too shocked to get embarrassed. How could you not? First, all of student’s eyes were on them. Second, the confession was slightly...too extreme, in Baekhyun’s opinion. Third, the boy, Park Chanyeol, was really handsome that Baekhyun, for a few seconds had a hard time to breath back then.

Baekhyun hardly knew Chanyeol. They were never in the same class or club though. He only knew him from the school’s talk because the tall boy was pretty popular. Baekhyun sometimes saw him at the corridor or school’s cafetaria. Other than Chanyeol was a tall handsome guy with a great skill at rapping and playing guitar, Baekhyun knew nothing more about him. And he was sure that Chanyeol also didn’t know much about him either.

But, why had Chanyeol wanted to date him, then?

The confession, just like what Baekhyun thought earlier, was unique, weird, and crazy, no doubt for that. But it was also sweet and cute, Baekhyun needed to admit. It was beyond extra ordinary. The way Chanyeol just yelled at him with his loud deep voice in the middle of auditorium, with hundreds of people were still there. The way he only introduced himself briefly and straight to the point. The way he looked so awkward yet also looked certain of his action. The way he said that he was Baekhyun’s future husband and he knew it from a fortune-teller. The way he wanted to date him, but at the same time, proposed to him indirectly. All of them was cute. But too crazy. Too extreme that Baekhyun thought that Chanyeol actually pulled a prank on him. Nobody in his right mind would do that kind of thing.

Except Chanyeol was not in his right mind.

Baekhyun said yes anyway. He didn’t even know why. Maybe because Chanyeol was hot. Maybe because he was too shocked. Maybe because it was crazy and unique, but still sweet. Or maybe just because Baekhyun didn’t want Chanyeol to get embarrass if he rejected him.

Chanyeol owed him an explanation. There were so many question in his mind right now. He really hoped that Chanyeol will come to him in the lunch break so both of them could talk. In private, obviously.

Baekhyun was still deep in thought when suddenly he jumped in surprise because of the bell finally rang. Baekhyun sighed in relief and bumped his head on his desk weakly. Today was really something. He didn’t imagine that his first day of third year in high school would turn like this.

Baekhyun jumped in surprise again when someone hit his shoulder. He mentally cursed why everyone and everything seems so easy to surprised him today. He looked up at someone who was standing beside him. It was Jongdae. “What do you want, Chen?”

Jongdae pouted, “I told you to not call me like that again.” Then he sat in front of Baekhyun.

“It’s a cool name,” Baekhyun shrugged. Jongdae was Baekhyun’s best friend which was a member of drama club. He was just casted for the anual year end theatre performance as Chen. Since he got casted, Jongdae has been whining for the teacher to change his character’s name because he didn’t like it. But his teacher refused.

“It’s stupid. It sounds Chinese.”

Baekhyun rolled his eyes, “that’s because the play is about Chinese, you idiot. Why are you here, anyway?”

Jongdae grinned , “Hmm, first, because this is also my class, if you haven’t noticed. And, second, I just wanted to chat with the newly-taken boy.”

That moment, Baekhyun really wanted to punch the living daylights out of Jongdae. “Why don’t you just go die, Jongdae?” Jongdae laughed seeing the pissed off president. “I don’t want to talk anything about it before I talked to that guy.” Then Baekhyun cleared his desk from books and pencils.

“Speaking of the devil.”

Baekhyun looked up at Jongdae and found that his best friend was looking at the door. When Baekhyun followed Jongdae’s gaze, he finally dropped his stare at someone standing at the his classroom’s door.

Baekhyun gasped a little. It was Chanyeol, his...uhm...boyfriend. It was extremely weird to call him that. Even though Baekhyun was actually waiting for Chanyeol to come to him to talk, he still quite taken aback by the arrival of him in his class.

After took a deep breath, Baekhyun stood up and walked toward Chanyeol without even say good bye to Jongdae.

“Someone forgets his best friend here.” Jongdae yelled teasingly.

Baekhyun rolled his eyes, and turned around to face Jongdae, “go yourself.” He said it briefly since he actually really wanted to hit his best friend.

Baekhyun turned around again and continued walking to Chanyeol who stood and looking at him nervously, and it made Baekhyun nervous, too.

When he arrived at the door, and Chanyeol already right in front of him, the taller immediately greet him, “Hi”

“Hi. Uh, sorry about that.” Baekhyun refered to Jongdae and his unappropriate action and words

Chanyeol chuckled nervously, “it’s okay.”

Baekhyun could see that the confidence in Chanyeol’s eyes were gone now. He was really awkward and nervous. The weird thing was, Baekhyun thought that Chanyeol was cute like this. “We need to talk.” Baekhyun said.

“Should we go—“

“Yes. Somewhere private would be nice” Baekhyun said as he rubbed the back of his neck, also nervously.

Chanyeol smiled and nodded, “where should we go?” he asked.

Baekhyun remained silent for while, thinking. Then a second after that, he smiled and looked at Chanyeol brightly, “I know the perfect place.” Without noticing, Baekhyun grabbed Chanyeol’s wrist and dragged him along through the corridor.

Chanyeol looked really shock and fluster, but Baekhyun didn’t notice it. He just kept holding Chanyeol’s wrist when he finally realized that some of the students in the corridor were looking at them excitedly and some were also whispering to one another. Furrowing his eyebrows, Baekhyun looked at Chanyeol beside him whose face was red. Then finally Baekhyun noticed that he actually held Chanyeol’s wrist. His eyes widened and he slowly let go of his hand.

“I’m sorry.” Baekhyun said embarrassedly. He really wasn’t aware there. It was weird. Baekhyun never the type a person who liked grabbing someone’s hands like that. That was definitely the first. He could feel that his face heating up.

Chanyeol, on the other hand, was in heaven for that brief moment. That was the first skinship for both of them, and it was Baekhyun who initiated it. Chanyeol thought he couldn’t be happier than this.

“So...uhm, where are you taking me?” Chanyeol said as both of the still walking side by side at the corridor. Chanyeol tried to ease the awkward moment they had by talking to Baekhyun. And also, some stares from other students were also making him unmcomfortable.

Upon hearing the question from Chanyeol, Baekhyun looked at him and smiled, “oh, it’s my secret place.”

Chanyeol just nodded and followed Baekhyun. Baekhyun led him to a stair and both of them climbed it in silent. Chanyeol actually never go this far because it was actually creepy up there. The stair was dark and quiet. But then, they arrived at a green metal door, and Baekhyun opened it easily although Chanyeol could hear it creaked loudly. The shower of bright light blinded Chanyeol for awhile, but after he adjusted, he could see that they were in the school’s rooftop now.

“Wow, I don’t know that we have a rooftop here,” Chanyeol said in surprise.

“Yeah this rooftop is kinda my place. I don’t know why people didn’t know this place though. I think I’m the only one came here, no one else....well, except now there’s you.”

Chanyeol blushed at the thought of it only Baekhyun and him who came here, not to mention, Baekhyun was the one who dragged him here.

“I like this place so much.” Baekhyun looked at the distance. From here, they could see the school’s neighbourhood. “It’s not beautiful but it make me calm, at least.”

Chanyeol nodded. It was no doubt that this place had that sense of calming and soothing. Chanyeol looked at their surroundings. He guessed this was the fifth floor of the building because the wind was really strong, but still refreshing.

Baekhyun himself didn’t know why he bring Chanyeol here. This place has been his hiding place for two years, but now he was bringing someone along, it was like he allowed Chanyeol to know him better. Even Jongdae didn’t know this place. He looked at Chanyeol who still mesmerized by the rooftop and the view. He thought that Chanyeol was no harm. He looked nice and friendly, and his good apperance was a plus point.

Realizing that he was staring at Chanyeol too long, Baekhyun looked away and cleared throat. “Ahem...so, Chanyeol.”

The latter snapped his head looking at Baekhyun, that was the first time Baekhyun called him by his name. “Ye—yeah?” he stuttered.

Baekhyun took a seat at the floor, and tapped the space beside him, “sit, we don’t have much time.”

Just that, Chanyeol remembered what was their reason to come here at the first place. Of course not for lunch break date. “Yeah, yeah, of course.” He took a seat beside Baekhyun but not too close. He still had manner to respect Baekhyun’s personal space. “I almost forgot,” he grinned.

Baekhyun couldn’t help but smile at Chanyeol’s grin. He noticed that it was kinda contagious. Both of them remained silent for awhile. Baekhyun was waiting for Chanyeol to speak, but Chanyeol was still confused how to explain to Baekhyun.

Realizing that Chanyeol might have a hard time to start, Baekhyun began first, “Chanyeol, I need you to know that I don’t know you. At all,” he said as his eyes looked at the front, not looking at Chanyeol.

Chanyeol sighed. He lowered his head and sticked his head between his knees, “Honestly, Baekhyun, I also don’t know you.”

Baekhyun somehow didn’t surprise, “why are you asking me out then? You’re not trying to pull a prank on me, aren’t you?”

“No, no, no, God no.” Chanyeol looked up at Baekhyun with serious eyes, “It’s...I think I like you. But, I don’t know it’s a long story.”

“Well, you need to tell me that long story, for sure. If you really want me to be your boyfriend.” Baekhyun gave him a knowing look.

“Okay, okay. Let me explain from the start.”

“Okay, I’m listening.”

“Yesterday, I went to Sokcho High School festival. My best friend, Jongin, I don’t know if you know him or not, he’s a second year. So, Jongin dragged me to a fortune-telling tent.” Chanyeol stopped for awhile, checking that if Baekhyun was following. When the latter nodded, Chanyeol continued, “Jongin and the fortune-teller forced me to also look into my future. So, without me agreeing, the old woman looked into her crystal ball. After that...oh God this is embarrassing.” Chanyeol covered his face with his palms.

Baekhyun laughed, “yeah...say someone who just confessed in front of the whole school.” He said jokingly. Looking at Chanyeol who seemed distress, he stopped laughing, “I’m sorry, continue.”

Chanyeol let out a heavy sigh and began to speak again, “she told me that she saw something interesting. Turned out, she saw my future husband. She suddenly pointed at someone outside her tent, saying that my husband was there, innocently, ugh I wanted to choke her.” He stopped when he heard Baekhyun laughed, then continued again. “When I turned around to see the person she pointed at...” Chanyeol gulped and looked at Baekhyun who was also looking at him, “...I saw you.”

Baekhyun blinked once, “she pointed at me?”

Chanyeol nodded, “yeah, you were in front of the tattoo booth. The fortune-teller was just right accross it.”

Baekhyun did go to Sokcho festival, and he also did got to the tattoo booth. So Chanyeol was really telling the truth? “and then?” Baekhyun asked Chanyeol to continue.

“and then, I ran away because I didn’t believe it. But when I went home, I couldn’t shake you away from my mind. I always heard the fortune-teller’s voice saying that you’re my future husband. I decided to forget you because I was pretty sure that I won’t meet you again, but then this morning...tadaaa, you’re the student council president. What kind of fate was that?”

“So you thought, meeting me again was fate?”

Chanyeol chuckled and nodded, “yes. Before I left Jongin at the festival, I said to him that I don’t want the crystal ball telling me who my husband is, and let the fate bring me to him. Baekhyun, I know this sounds extremely gross, but the moment I saw you, I really thought it was fate.”

Baekhyun stayed silent. Still too shock by Chanyeol’s indeed long story.

“Please, say something,” Chanyeol said as he was looking at the stoned Baekhyun.

“Wow.” That was the only word that Baekhyun managed to utter.

Chanyeol laughed, “yeah, wow.”

“No, wait, Chanyeol, so basically you’re saying that you wanted to date me not because you like me but because you belived that it was fate?”

Chanyeol shook his head weakly, “I honestly don’t know. My legs were the ones who bring me to you there, and my stupid mouth was the one who yelled your name and did the rest of the confession. My stupid body. I know.”

“You’re so impulsive. I actually wanted to cry because of how stupid you are. No offense, Chanyeol.”

Chanyeol laughed.

“But, seriously, how can you just believe her? What if she pointed at...let’s say...a murderer. Would you believe her, too?”

Chanyeol shrugged a little, and he looked at Baekhyun again in the eyes, “I think because it was you. Because it was you, so I believed her.”

Baekhyun held his breath because what Chanyeol just said. He could feel that Chanyeol’s stare on him was also started to burn a hole on him, so he looked away, “you’re being cheesy. I’m serious, Chanyeol.”

“I’m serious, Baekhyun. I like you.”

“You can’t like someone who you didn’t know, and in just one day, for crying out loud.” Baekhyun tried to not meet Chanyeol’s gaze.

“Well, I do. I don’t know why I like you, I just do.” Chanyeol himself cringed at what he just said, but it was the truth of his feeling and Baekhyun needed to know. “What if it’s true?” Chanyeol asked.

Baekhyun turned his head to him, “what’s true?”

Chanyeol did that deep stare again. And Baekhyun didn’t like it because it made him melt. “That you really are my future husband.”

Baekhyun looked away again, “don’t ask me that. I don’t know.”

Chanyeol laughed at the sight of Baekhyun pouting, it was adorable. “You’re cute. I would love to have you as my husband, Baekhyun.”

“Chanyeol, stop saying that husband stuff, it’s creepy, y’know? And stop laughing.” It only made Chanyeol laughed harder. Baekhyun noticed that Chanyeol’s right eye would twitch if he laughed too hard. “Stop laughing, or I don’t want to be your boyfriend.”

It succeeded to make Chanyeol close his mouth completely and looked at Baekhyun dumbly that the latter was the one who wanted to laugh right now. “So you still wanna be my boyfriend?”

Baekhyun his dry lips. He actually still confused here and there, and afraid that this would turn bad. But Chanyeol was a great guy. Baekhyun already enjoyed his company in this short period of time, and he made Baekhyun smile and laugh. Baekhyun thought it was enough for qualification. “Yes, I think you’re not that bad. At least, you funny.” Baekhyun smiled.

Chanyeol smile widely that his eyes twitched again.

“Don’t be too happy. We still have to catch up to know each other.”

Chanyeol nodded excitedly.

“And stop grinning like that. You’re ugly.” Baekhyun got up and started to walk toward the door, leaving Chanyeol.

“You’re handsome, Baekhyun!” Chanyeol yelled.

Baekhyun rolled his eyes and turned around, “and stop yelling, for God’s sake. There, at the auditorium, was enough.”

Chanyeol nodded again, and Baekhyun left him completely alone now. Although Baekhyun already long gone, Chanyeol still stayed at his place and grinned widely. Today was definitely the best day of his existance.
