Fun

It had already been a week since the four friends had been to the zoo. Mina’s underlying reason for the visit had worked for Jongin and Jaemi because ever since that day, the two of them had walked to school every morning and back home in the afternoon. Things were looking up for the two of them, but the relationship between Yixing and Jongin seemed to have taken a sharp turn. From Jaemi’s point of view, they hadn’t known each other for that long—same as Jaemi and Mina—but every time the two boys would be in one room together, it seemed like they had some unfinished business and a bomb was ticking, waiting to blow at any given minute.              Mina had noticed it as well and asked Jaemi if she knew if something was going on but she had no clue either, and every time she would ask about it, she was shot down by Yixing. It annoyed her but it was none of her business so she let the boys sort it out themselves.              Today was Sunday, the start of a new month and a week after the zoo day. The weather had gotten a little hotter, spring in full throttle, so Jaemi decided she wanted to spend the day out and quickly found herself sitting alone outside a small café until a familiar person came by and joined. The boy in front of her wore a calm expression as he was sipping his warm chocolate milk and enjoyed the cool breeze that would blow once in a while.              Still, even though he had an expression that emanated bliss, his eyebrows told something else. While Jaemi was talking, there were times that he would zone out and his eyebrows would pinch together in a pensive state. She had noticed but didn’t say anything about it but now he was just sitting quietly and there went the eyebrows again.              “Jongin, I wished I could jump into your mind right now, and erase all of the negative energy in there so your eyebrows won’t do dumb things to your face.”              Jongin snapped out of his thoughts and set his cup down, earning a small clang on the mwtal wire table. “You don’t want to do that,” Jongin sighed and looked Jaemi straight in the eye with a hard expression, “trust me.”              Jaemi chuckled at his sudden solemn words and leaned forward to flick his forehead. “I highly doubt you have some super-secret agent stuff occupying your mind right now, so snap out of it and enjoy your delicious choco before it gets cold!”              Jongin rubbed the sore spot on his forehead as his expression softened but in the back of his mind, he still took her words into account. If only she truly understood the meaning behind those words she had just uttered.              “Maybe not some secret agent stuff, but there’s definitely something there,” he spoke again before taking a sip from his cup. Jaemi crossed her legs under the table and rest her elbows on it. Even with the rays of run peeping through the branches that were hitting Jongin’s face, his normally bright presence was barely there. He had been like this all week whenever he wouldn’t be busy with talking or focusing on school work and it started to worry Jaemi.              What could’ve happened in the meantime to have gotten him so down?              This was the question that ran through her mind almost every day and even with the occasional headaches, the pain of his heldback personality that she felt was nothing compared to it. Jaemi cocked her head at him, and looked at his profile when Jongin was looking out over the road and trees that signaled the beginning of the park. He had his hands entwined in front of him and it took Jaemi her all not to reach out and hold them tightly inside her own.              “Is it about Yixing?” she asked carefully, afraid of being shot down again. Jongin inhaled deeply, puffing up his chest and looked around before letting out the built up air. “Something like that,” he answered still not looking at the girl. It was another one of his infamous cryptic answers and it was really starting to get on Jaemi’s nerves. If it was about Yixing, then why didn’t they just make up, instead of being grumpy and impossible all the damn time!              She leaned back into her seat and sighed, squinting her eyes at the rays of light that covered her eyes. “You’re impossible,” she muttered under her breath but Jongin still caught it. “What?” he asked, the creases between his eyebrows deepening. Those words had hit hard without Jaemi even knowing but Jongin wasn’t planning on informing her about it.              “Nothing, you know what you need?” she said happily changing the subject. Jongin was a little surprised by her sudden change of attitude but played along anyway and raised his eyebrows in question.              “Fun.”                    The vendor reached through the window and handed them two tickets. “Would you like something to drink?” the girl asked in an overly sweet voice. “Uhm no thank you,” Jaemi answered as she took the tickets from her but after receiving no reaction, she looked up to see that the girl was ogling Jongin and not paying any attention to her. She grit her teeth when she saw Jongin look up at the board behind her with all the drinks. “We could trade, a drink for your number,” the girl purred and winked at Jongin with a seductive smile.              Jaemi’s mouth dropped as she gaped at the woman’s audacity. On one side, she admired her self-confidence but on the other side, what made her think that she might not be his girlfriend! This thought increased her annoyance and when she turned to Jongin, his sheepish smile at the woman was the last drop.              ”Excuse us,” Jaemi interrupted with a stern voice to the girl when she grabbed Jongin’s arm and pulled him with her further into the theater. Jongin just followed her with a grin on his lips. He had already noticed the girl’s annoyance the moment the woman had asked if they wanted a drink, so as the funny guy he thought he was, he decided to add more fuel in the fire.              “That woman was nice,” he spoke up, trying to keep a straight face. Jaemi let go of his arm and kept her eyes in front, following the mass of people who were walking to the same screening as them. Not going for the bait, Jaemi responded with a hum and tried to ignore the whole situation. Jongin his lips with a playful grin and stared at the back of her head.              “And pretty too, I mean did you see her eyes?” he tried again. Jaemi slanted her jaw and concentrated on the posters on the walls, again humming in response without turning to face the boy.              Jongin was having way too much fun with this; Jaemi, however, felt the exact opposite. If this had been a cartoon smoke could've been seen coming from her ears.     “And her clothes were close fitting too so her br—”              “Hey look we’re here!” Jaemi curtly interrupted his words, not wanting to hear him gush about the damn female ticket seller. She quickly walked into the dim theater and looked for their seats in the back. Jongin chuckled at her reaction and followed her closely. Jaemi took a seat when she had found them and let out a long sigh.              This might’ve been a bad idea.              Jongin took a seat next to her and looked around the theater to do a quick headcount but stopped at Jaemi’s. Her annoyed expression had changed into a slightly worried one which made Jongin’s look soften at the sight of her biting her lower lip and fidgeting with her hands. He pulled the armrest up between the two of them and wrapped his arms around Jaemi, pulling her closer to his chest. Just when the lights were dimming, Jongin’s deep voice whispered into her ear, sending shivers all over your body.              “Don’t worry.”                    Jaemi hastily walked outside with a flustered face and a heart that didn’t intend on calming down any time soon. During the whole movie, she couldn’t concentrate on anything that was going on on the big screen in front of them. Jongin had kept his arm in place and hadn’t let her go until the movie was over. His face was so close that she felt his breath tickle her face with every move he made. It was just too close to think straight!              “That was cute,” Jongin’s voice shook her out of her thoughts. Jaemi smiled awkwardly at him and nodded. “I didn’t know you liked romantic movies,” he chuckled and cocked his head.              Oh god please don’t remind me, she thought and mentally strangled herself. What made her position even worse was the kind of movie she had chosen. She picked a fluffy rom-com and didn’t think much of it—it was just a movie. With her in his arms, however, made the situation a whole lot more complicated since it definitely made it look like they were a couple on a movie-date. Jaemi didn’t want him to misunderstand, or rather, make herself misunderstand.              Throughout the past weeks, without her noticing, Jaemi’s feelings had gradually developed into something more romantic towards Jongin and it bothered her because she wasn’t certain whether what he felt towards her was the same. He was very handsy and liked to hug her but that
