Half Dark
Description
I am your average student.
--at least that’s what I believe.
Even though, I barely remembered my mother and I didn't come to know my father, I have never threw tantrums in my life!
Who the hell is sad?
Ah—fine! I admit it. Of course, I am sad—uh, well... sometimes.
What?
Why are you asking if I have friends? Of course, I have!
I have so many that I eat alone at lunch and ride with my shadow on the bus.
See? I am your average uninteresting person. I'm contented with my life.
but wait? Why am I suddenly seeing weird things?
Maybe I'm being cursed for lying in this entire conversation. Maybe the world wants to get back at me for wanting more even though I said I am contented.
Fu—oops! That’s close—can I just ask one question here? I won’t bad mouth anyone if they just ING answer my question!
Why the hell is this one-eyed bald guy chasing me?!
Why the hell is this long-haired girl, stuck on the ceiling, calling out on me!?
Am I going crazy?
Nice one Jaejoong, if you’re not terrified enough, go bang your head.
Sorry. I’m just scared less.
Foreword
Prologue
“Mother!” A 5 year old boy came smiling after slowly opening the sliding door of the room.
“W-what’s wrong? Something is hurting you?” His dark eyes turn a shade of gold as he squinted on the woman lying on the futon surrounded by thick covers.
A smile curved on her lips as she surveyed the boy. With shaky hands, she beckoned him to come closer in which the boy complied, slowly sitting on his knees against the wooden floor.
“You remind me of him a lot Jae--”
The boy turned worriedly as the woman fall into a fit of coughing. “Mother are you alright?”
Pain is still etched on her features but she grinned and lightly touched her son’s cheek. Her face glowed and despite of sickness, her beauty that once she possessed shimmered. “Sweetheart… I have to give you something….”
With her words, the boy smiled widely. “A gift for my birthday?!”
The woman laughed and ran her fingers across her son’s face. She surveyed his features which resembles hers a lot and smiled slightly as his dark hair become a shade of gold as the rays of the sun entered the room. “It’s a protection… because you’re special...”
The boy’s brows furrowed. “Special?”
“Yes…. So you must promise me….” She carefully raised herself and showed him a string dangling on her neck. It holds a square shaped wood that has something engraved on it that he couldn’t understand. “Promise me….” With trembling hands, she pulled the necklace off her and proceeded to tie it on the boy. “Promise me, you’ll never take it off….”
The boy nodded. “Yes, mother…”
After that day, the woman in that room which he smiled and talked about the things he did for a day…. left…..and never did he see her again.
