He's been quiet. He's been drifting. It's as if he's leaving small traces to imply that he was going to be gone soon. It can be felt in the atmosphere. Whenever he stepped inside the corridor, it's as if darkness has casted over him. He doesn't speak in anger or annoyance, but silence. Every night he'd spend time in Nicholas' room until his son falls into a deep slumber and once he enters their room, she would've already sunk into her dream.  There was never a perfect time for the two to meet and speak. That young love they had was no longer there it seems.  Although she yearns for the love and affection as adults in their late 20s almost early 30s, he doesn't crave for it as she does. A simple hug would be great. A sweet kiss would do her good. A warm hello would be fine. A smile would even be nice.
