The Downsides to Being Petite

Whenever someone asks me how old I am, they don't expect that I'm nearly 18 when they see a 5 ft tall Asian girl in thick rimmed, almost classic bookworm style, eyeglasses.

I was the sad child who was treated like some mystical unicorn after hitting their period earliest back in grade school.  I was 9.  I've grown an inch since then.

I don't know about anyone else, but my best friends since middle school have been tennis shoes, sneakers, and flipflops with a MINIMUM of 1 1/2 inch wedges.  High heels are 6-inch platforms.  Always.

Thankfully, I was blessed with small feet along with it so I can fit my feet into shoes ranging from size 5 to size 7, depending of what kind I'm looking for.

Sadly, this added height boost doesn't help much.  Most people I know were giraffes in a past life, without a doubt.

(Lilian, you little jerk, how on Earth are we related?  Give jiejie some of your height!)

There are two main reasons why I hate going clothes shopping at the mall here in the States.

One: Almost everything is too big.  Shoes, shirts, dresses, pants, bras accesories.  If it's not too big in the upward direction, it is outward, or both.

Dresses especially.  Some of them look like they're made for people with legs the size of my whole body or s each the size of my head.  I'd like to see an actual size 0 or 2 instead of 10s in the petite section, please.  OTL  It's embarrassing for someone my age to have to stop by the children's clothing area to buy undies that fit.  Most of my clothes even now are just stretched-out clothes that I've been wearing since grade school or middle school.

And frankly, the 14/16 children's size pants I wear to sleep that I've had for years is still the biggest pair of pants I own...  And it's still stretchy as hell.

CIRCO, Y U ONLY SELL THOSE IN TODDLER SIZE??

If possible, I'd like to propose a switch with those people with plus-sizes that I always see online complaining about clothes that don't cater to their shape.

THE CLOTHES EXIST!  THEY'RE JUST BEING SHIPPED TO THE WRONG PLACE.

Two: It's dangerous as hell for us shorties down here in malls.

Now maybe this is just me, but I always hit myself in some part of the face or head on those bars for hangers that jut out when there aren't any clothes hanging off of them or there's only a few hanging close to the wall.  I never seem to see them, probably because my line of sight is UNDER them.  =__=;

In addition to that, I'm always afraid of cars not seeing me and backing over me when I'm in parking lots.  In some cases, that's nearly happened but I try to go either forward or backwards to get out of the way faster when I see a car going towards me in reverse, or I hit the back of the car to get them to brake.  Though I'm not too sure if this is because I'm short, or because there's too many Asian drivers around here...

...Frankly I'm just afraid of cars in general.  Why do I even have a license?

So if anyone wants, you can tell me if you've had any moments like I do at the mall and maybe share my pain of being short.

Well, I guess everyone should be accepting of their height no matter what, because, like you said, there are downsides to being small, but being a giant isn't such a fun ride either. I'm 11 and I'm 5"4 with broad shoulders and a wide build. Whenever I go out with my friend, I feel so tall and out of place because they're at least half a foot shorter than me. They all fit in with each other, and I don't. I feel that I'm going to knock something over because I'm so big and sometimes I can be clumsy. Petite people are so quick and agile, and I'm so jealous. Although one height advantage is that because I'm tall, I have long legs and I can run pretty fast ^_^
So, whenever you're frustrated with your height, think of the positive aspects instead of the negative. Balance out the disadvantages with the things about your height that make you satisfied. If you need to rant, that's okay too, but be happy with yourself overall! <3

Chapter 1: I'm 16 and I'm 5'4" and wear a size 0 but no matter where I go THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A SIZE FREAKING ZERO so I always have to go a size up, which is either a 1 or a 3 in some cases, and the clothes are HUGE on me. Even 0s are slightly big on me and I have slightly below average s, but why are all the bras smaller than C cups look like a unicorn puked on them *sigh* it's hard being small.
I used to actually think I wasn't going to grow because being short runs in my family (well for the older siblings at least, all the younger ones are HUGE...my little sister is 5'10") so I thought I was gonna be 4'11" for the rest of my life, but I had 2 growth spurts in the last two years, so I guess that's kind of a blessing.
But I've always been slow in developing things, so maybe that's how you are. You never know, you might sprout up 8 inches in the next couple of months *shrug*

Chapter 1: otl well im obviously younger than you but i'm at 5"2 right now and my parents are constantly complaining. and throwing milk bottles at me.
BUT I HATE MILK. unless it's soymilk cause soymilk is my life
but yeah. my dad expects me to be at 5"4 right now cause he said "tall girls are more attractive, but just don't get to tall." i should be at 5"6 by the time i'm out of school. - n -

but hey on the bright side, i don't have to worry about finding a guy who's taller than me XD ...and it's okay girl. why you gotta worry? your children will most likely inherit kris's giant genes . w .

Just out of curiosity, how tall would you like to be if you could choose?

Chapter 1: There's a downside to being tall, too.
I'm not even THAT tall. 5 ft 7 and I love heels - my favourites are 5 1/2 inch ones that are so gorgeous and lovely (I love them as much as I love my Heenim /shot), but it's so awkward when you're taller than guys. I think I'd be as tall with Zelo with them on :(
I need a tall guy. My friend was once talking/going out/I-have-no-idea-what-the-eff-was-happening-with-them with a guy. I have another tall friend who is 5 ft 8 and we're the tallest in our group and the other girl is prob 5ft 5. So when we first met the guy, he was about 5ft 4. I felt like I was older than him by a couple of years - and he was older than me.
My friend and I called him the leprechaun or the gremlin. we once referred to him by his real name and then someone was like, "Who the eff is that?" "Gremlin." "Oh! That guy! Is she still going out with him?"

TL;DR When guys are shorter than you, it :(
I'd rather be short than tall. Guys think short girls are cute :(
