The Pursuit of Happiness

three;; first day

“Where have you been?”

That was the first thing Krystal heard when she entered the mansion. She freezed, and then turned around with a cheeky smile. It was Victoria, standing at the top of the stairs, who called her. She looked a bit angry but Krystal knew exactly how to handle it.

“I’ve been waiting for you.”

“Vic.” She runs towards her, placing a kiss on her cheeks. “Is father home?”

“No. He just left with his fiancée.” She replied, still not changing her expression.

“Really? Good thing I wasn’t here.”

“Soojung-ah.”

Krystal sighs. “No matter what happens, I will never accept her.”

Victoria shooks her head. “She’s a nice lady. You should meet her soon.”

The young Jung didn’t care at all. The fact that Victoria sounds favor about her father marrying another woman made her feel annoyed.  She was about to leave, when Victoria held her hand.

“Not so fast. You still haven’t answered my question.”

“Can we talk later? I feel so sticky. I’m going to take a shower.”

“Fine.” She lets go of her hand and watches her enter her room.

Victoria sighs as she thinks about Kwon Soori, Krystal’s mother. She would surely feel happy about her husband’s soon to be new wife, as she loves him with all her heart, and would let him go just to be happy. But it seems like she couldn’t change Krystal’s mind.

“Kai. Call me Kai.”

Krystal couldn’t understand why Kai couldn’t get out of her head. Ever since they parted ways infront of the mansion, her conversation with him kept on popping out on her head. Probably because he was brave enough to talk to her? Or is it because he danced really well? Whatever the reason is, she hopes it's not admiration.

Her thoughts were ruined by Victoria, who entered her room.

“So are you going to tell—Wait, whose jacket is this?” She grabs a leather jacket from her bed and couldn’t help but to smell it. “It smells… It smells like Yunho’s perfume.”

“Oh that?” Krystal puts down her brush in her table and stands up. “It’s Kai’s.”

“Kai’s?” The older woman says, raising her brow. “Who is this Kai?”

“A guy I met this afternoon.” She simply replied, but Victoria smiled at her cheekily. “Please don’t look at me like that. It’s creepy.”

“So… tell me more about this Kai guy.”

“Well, he’s dark, tall, good looking and he dances well too. And oh, we have the same age.”

“He’s the perfect match!” Victoria then grinned, and started to spin her around. “You’re finally having a boyfriend again! I’m so happy for you!”

Krystal sighs. She knew this was going to happen.

“Listen Vic, I’m not here to date. I’m going to study, okay? I had enough with boys.”

“But Soojung-ah! Don’t you want to be happy? Having someone who’ll make you feel loved is great.”

She rolls her eyes. “I do want to be happy. But to be honest, I don’t really want to have a boyfriend right now. Or even just a friend. He might leave me. Just like…” She sighs, not continuing her sentence. “But he seemed really nice… and…”

“And?”

“Fun to be with.”

“Well in that case, don’t have second thoughts! Don’t be afraid. Who knows? He might be different from others.” She smiled and caressed her back, just like what she always do when she’s a bit down. “It’s getting late I should go now.”

After placing a kiss on her cheeks, Victoria left Krystal’s room. Krystal though, was still not sure. She then held a picture that was placed under her pillow.

“What should I do unnie?”

The sun was shining brightly when Krystal opened her window. It seems like the weather was cooperating at her first day of college. Well in Korea of course. She already started college in London taking Business, just like what her father told her.

She didn’t really like it. In fact, she hated it. She hated the fact the she followed her father. She had no plans of taking over or even accepting his offer to take over the company, if ever that happens.

She doesn’t want to give up though. Whatever happens, she’s going to finish her course.

Krystal hated new places. She also doesn’t like maps. It makes her more confuse – which is why she really regretted using the map her new principal gave her. She was lost, again. For the second time.

Her new university was big. But it wasn't as big as her old one. And she didn’t quite understand why she got lost. Krystal didn’t feel worried at all. She arrived at the campus an hour earlier and she’s confident that she’ll get to her room in time. Well, that’s what she hopes.

She couldn’t help but to admire the beauty of the school, and the music she was hearing. So she walked closer to the room where the piano was. She then, found a lad. He wasn’t facing her; she just saw his side of his face. Surely, he was taking Music.

“He plays the piano really well.”

Shocked, the guy stopped played and looked at the door to find her. But he wasn’t the only one who was shocked. Krystal didn’t mean to say that out loud. She quickly covers in embarassment.

“Why thank you.” He smiles.

“I’m sorry for interupting. Please, continue. I’ll just lea-”

“No, you don’t have to. Please enter.” He insists, still having a smile on his face. “Don’t worry. I don’t bite.”

Krystal couldn’t help but to chuckle. She finally enters the room, and stands near the piano. As he started to play again, she wished she took Music instead of taking Business. She, herself, knows how to play the piano. She started to learn to play it when she heard that her mother really wanted to be a famous pianist before.  The guy noticed Krystal’s eyes was getting teary, that’s why he stopped again.

“Is there something wrong?”

“It’s nothing.” She fakes smiles. “I wish I could have taken Music, just like you.”

“But I don’t take Music.” He laughs a little. “I’m taking Business.”

“Really? Me too.” She says, her eyes wide open. She couldn’t believe that this guy infront of her, is actually a classmate of hers.

“Cool!” He grins. “Are you new here? I think I haven’t seen you before.”

“I came from London. I’m Krystal.”

“It’s nice to meet you, Krystal. My name is Taemin. Lee Taemin.”

Since Taemin was already standing infront of her, she noticed that he was tall, fair and good-looking – which reminded her of…

“Krystal?”
