The Past
I Just Want to Love YouIt was nearly six years ago but for Yoon-eun everything seemed like it had just happened yesterday.
Six years ago, she went to France to study. She had always loved the culture of the country and when she had finally saved enough, she flew to the country all by herself. It was also there where she met Jae Hwan’s dad. When they saw each other at a café they clicked along well with each other instantly. Maybe it was because they were in a foreign country all by themselves. Maybe it was because the both of them are Koreans. Anyway, they got along really well and chatted for an hour the first time they met.
After that first meeting, they exchanged numbers and went out for another few meetings. Shortly after, they fell madly in love with each other. Yoon-eun even moved in with him after dating for a month.
One month after they started dating, they registered their marriage and exchanged their vows. Three months after their little church wedding Yoon-eun found out that she was pregnant. When he knew of the news, he was ecstatic. He gave Yoon-eun a big hug and spun her around the little apartment which they had rented. He treated her like a queen and he would bring her everything that she needed. They went out shopping every weekend for the baby needs and he would also accompany her to the gynecology for her regular checks.
Just when she thought that everything would turn out the way that they had planned, things changed overnight.
After she came back from the grocery that day, he was gone. Without a word or letter, he seemed to have vanished into thin air.
Thinking back on the day when he left her was too much for her to bear. Yoon-eun could already feel tears starting to well up in her eyes. Luckily before they could fall, Jongup’s voice could be heard from the driveway.
“Honey, look who I ran into on my way back from the grocer’s!”
Ji-hye looked out at the door and Yoon-eun recovered back from her walk down memory lane. Soon after, Jongup appeared at the door with a man following behind him.
Jongup stepped into the house, placed all the things he bought on the coffee table and went over to give his wife a peck on the cheeks. He asked the man in and introduced them to him.
“Ladies, this is my best buddy and he has just returned from Canada. Bro, this is my beautiful wife, Ji-hye and our little precious is in her tummy. As for the other, it’s our best friend, Park Yoon-eun.”
They shook each other’s hands and before anything further could be spoken, Yoon-eun’s cellphone rang. She excused herself and went to the window side to speak into her phone. However something was really weird. The man’s gaze never seemed to leave Yoon-eun. He never really listened to what Ji-hye and Jongup were saying. No one noticed it but then finally someone did.
After chasing her husband off to the kitchen to prepare dinner, Ji-hye turned and wanted to speak to the man but realized that he had his eyes on her best friend.
She found it surprising but she decided to keep quiet and observe the situation. After a while, she cleared and asked, “Sorry but I’m afraid I did not quite catch your name just now. Do you mind telling me again?”
The man turned around to face Ji-hye and gave a charming smile.
