It was just a few days before Christmas and I just finished setting up my tree. There were little frame ornaments with pictures of me with my family from when I was younger and lots of Disney figures. I was quite pleased with what I’d done. This year was going to be my first Christmas after moving out and all the decorating in my flat was done completely by me. The doorbell rung and I ran to get the door. Behind it, Chanyeol was holding a bouquet of dark red roses and he smiled and handed me a Christmas card as he walked in, also giving me a quick kiss on the cheek as he entered. While I opened the envelope, Chanyeol walked around the tree and studied each ornament and picture that hung from it. When I opened the card, two slips of paper fell out. I kept reading the card while I grabbed what I had dropped, so I wasn’t paying too much attention to what exactly they were. I finished reading and looked down to see what was in my hands and I screamed excitedly at the sight of two plane tickets to Hawaii, the place i was dying to go. Chanyeol grinned and laughed when I ran and jumped into his arms.
“We’re going to Hawaii ?!”
“Surprise! Merry Christmas, Sujin.” I gave Chanyeol a kiss and immediately brought him to help me pack for our holiday.
Today was Christmas Eve. After having dinner at cool, low-key restaurant, Chanyeol and I walked hand in hand through a park while sipping fancy hot chocolate from Starbucks. The trees were beautifully strung up with multi colored lights, and under the moonlight in the snow, it looked perfect enough to be an image straight from a snow globe. From the corner of my eye, I suddenly saw flashes of bright lights and for a second, I was worried it was beginning to storm. But then I noticed the paparazzi working from behind trees. I hated it the most when they tried to be sneaky. I knew they’re there, why don’t they just take the damn pictures without hiding in the bushes like creeps?
I stopped walking and looked up to Chanyeol.
“Babe, I think reporters are following us…” I told him.
It kind of bugged me because Chanyeol and I didn’t officially come out as a couple yet and I wanted us to be the ones telling the media.
But Chanyeol just smiled and whispered,“Then why don’t we give them something to write about ?” and winked.
Before I could even think, he scooped me up in his arms, bridal style, and placed a giant kiss on my cheek. I just barely managed to keep the drink in my hand from spilling over, but I couldn’t help laughing. Chanyeol carried me over to the nearest bench and sat with my on his lap. He brought his forehead against mine, making our conversation that more private.
He smiled at me and his eyes shined.
“Do you care who’s watching now?”
“I don’t think I care about anything but being with you right now.”
“I love you Sujin.”
“I love you, too. So much.”
He placed a soft, short kiss on my lips and said,
“Merry Christmas.”
Then he took me back to our hotel where we watched Christmas movies, decorated cookies, and took a late night swim at the hotel pool. And on Christmas morning, Chanyeol surprised me, again, with a puppy and an infinity necklace.
