Turbulence

As soon as it was light, Yuri decided to go for a short walk to see how well her legs would hold up. She was tired of feeling worthless, and maybe this would help her to gain some mobility. She stopped, laughing to herself. She sounded like an old lady, and that HAD to change. Wincing as she stretched her legs, she was determined to finish this walk, no matter how much pain she was in.
She looked at her surroundings as she walked. The island really was beautiful, with the water and the lush, green trees and grass. It would have been a nice place to visit. Now it may be the last place they would see. With a heavy heart, she wondered how many times the others had lost sleep like she had, thinking about never going home.
Sighing, she took another step, but lost her footing on the mud. Falling backward, she yelled as pain shot up her leg. Feeling the stress from the entire situation and now the pain added to it, she began to cry. Everything was so hopeless. She continued crying, shaking with sobs, and did not stop when she felt a hand on her shoulder. It felt small, gentle and comforting. Turning slightly, she saw that it was Hyuna and buried her face in the other girl’s shoulder. Hyuna her hair and rocked her back and forth. Yuri felt her heart beating faster, just like in the pit.
Once she had gained a bit of composure, Yuri turned to Hyuna. “I’m sorry…I feel so worthless. I’m not help to anyone like this, and…I don’t even know if we will ever make it home. Right now, I just feel like giving up, Hyuna.” She shook her head.
Hyuna smiled at her, still her hair. “Well, while I think we are all feeling the stress that we may never make it home, we can only do our best,” she wiped a tear of her own away. “However, I don’t think you are weak at all. You are strong, confident, very athletic and resourceful,” Hyuna could see that Yuri was now blushing, which was to her advantage. “
