“Stop talking and come with us quietly if you don’t want to get hurt, little girl.” He threatened, eyes piercing through you full of suspicions and curiosity.

“’Little girl’?! Who do you think you’re calling ‘little girl’ huh? Pretty sure I’m older than you, punk! You—“ Your sentence was cut short, a whimper escaping your lips as the tanned boy brought the dagger closer to your throat. The one leading the group turned his head around to look at Kai, his eyes darting to the blade at your throat. 

“Now, now Kai, don’t get hasty. We’ll let Elder Soo decide what to do with her. Don’t forget whose fault it was that Mihyun got lost in the first place.”

The boy named ‘Kai’ withdrew his knife, a look of guilt plastered on his face.

“Yes, Leader Suho.”

Prologue 

There was once a very powerful being who wandered the universe in search of a new world to settle down in. After searching for many life times, she had come across a beautiful blue and green planet called, ‘Earth’.

She found an empty part of the world, away from the original inhabitants called ‘Humans’, and using her power, created her own land. She covered it with grass, trees, flowers, rivers, ponds. Everything naturally beautiful about this world, she created it. She even created creatures mirroring different animals from different countries and placed them in her new formed island.

But the beautiful stretching vistas, rushing waterfalls and cute little animals didn’t make her feel less lonely, so to keep her company, she created people, based on the image of the Humans. They carried every physical trait believed to be “perfect” to the human race. Well-built body lines, facial features of angels and hair like silk.

These creatures did not have magical abilities like her, but were spiritually connected with the land. They had an almost magical affinity for the Island created for them.

You could say that they were one with the Island.

The people saw their creator as their queen; their mother. And so, they referred to her as Mama.

Happily they lived, until the day Mama decided to visit her old home land for a short time. When she finally returned to Earth, she found the land and people she created had withered and almost completely died away without her presence. They needed her love, her power and her life source to survive.

With tears in her eyes, she accepted her fate to be forever bonded with this land, never to leave again for the sake of her children. She loved them too much for her to risk this happening again.

Sacrificing herself, she sealed away every ounce of power she had, including her physical form, into a large tree which was conveniently placed right in the centre of the island. As she did this, the tree instantly grew twice the size, its green foliage becoming greener and brighter than ever before. Every leaf. Every vine. Every flower. Everything that was this tree was fused with her magic.

As well as the growth of this tree, new types of plant life spread throughout the land. Withered trees and flowers bloomed once again and evolved into bigger, better versions of themselves. New trees flooded any barren areas of the land, bearing different types of exotic fruits.

The village people cried at the base of the tree, all terribly sad that they’d never get to see Mama again, but they knew she didn’t really leave them. She was all around them, everywhere, watching over them. They felt her magical presence in every inch of the island, from the water in the river, to the sand under their feet. 

They named her tree ‘Tree of Life’ and dubbed that area sacred ground, as it was there that her magic and presence was the strongest.
