101 ; they're, their & there
random freebies.
hello. i'm back with another 101 thing-y. idk how to describe this -- but it's supposed to help improve your understanding of words and usage.
the third lesson is about the difference of they're, their & there.
THEY'RE : a contraction of they are ; refers to a group of people, things, etc..
THEIR : possessive form of they; refers to something a group of persons own.
THERE : is an adverb pertaining to a position of a certain being; almost impossible to make a mistake with this, but i just wanted to include it. (bc they sound similar)
bad example of they're :
"They're work is amazing." (means 'they are work is amazing'. )
bad example of their :
"Their late!" (their late is what?)
"They're work is amazing." (means 'they are work is amazing'. )
bad example of their :
"Their late!" (their late is what?)
good example of they're :
"They're late!" ("they are late!")
good example of their :
"Their work is amazing." (the work another group made is amazing)
"They're late!" ("they are late!")
good example of their :
"Their work is amazing." (the work another group made is amazing)
if you're still confused, you can do the following to find out if it's correct or not. (source:previous 101 chapters)
for they're, change 'they're' to 'they are'. "Theyre here / They are here "They're answer is wrong. / They are answer is wrong." simply deconstruct the contraction 'they're' to find out if it fits.
for their, just remember that their shows possession. cannotgiveexamplesatall.
and there denotes a place or location. like i said, it's impossible to mistake this for some other word.
