Common spelling errors and why these in particular are horrible
Things I Cannot StandBelow is a list of common spelling errors and why they are really bad to have in your fic:
1. 'clam' vs. 'calm'
A clam is an animal. Calm is a state of being. A person cannot clam down.
2. 'angle' vs. 'angel'
An angle is two rays that connect at a point. An angel is a mystical creature from heaven (or something like that.) Would you like your significant other to look like an angle?
3. 'scrape' vs. 'scrap.'
I cannot even begin to count the number of times I've read stories that used 'scrapped' instead of 'scraped,' usually in make-out scenes where teeth are involved. 'Scrapped' means you threw something out. 'Scraped' means you rub or scratch something.
4. 'prostate' vs. 'prostrate.'
Man, oh man. So many fics use 'prostrate' instead of 'prostate.' 'Prostrate' means lying facedown. The 'prostate' is a male organ that when stimulated can provide ual satisfaction. Yes, a person can be prostrate while you stimulate their prostate. But not the other way around.
This list will be updated periodically when I find new things that should be added.
