004: Nightmares
THIS Is The Reality I Wanted
Taemin's p.o.v.
I was looking for Key hyung to ask for his permission to raid the pantry, so I decided to
check his room.
When I opened the door, I called out, "Key hyung?"
I started backing out when there wasn't a response.
Wait, is that Jonghyun hyung?
How is he crying while sleeping?
Is that even physically possible?
I forgot all about finding food as I inched forward to where hyung was on the bed,
twisting and turning, as if trying to escape some terrible monster's grasp.
I moved closer, and could vaguely make out what he was mumbling.
"No...
No...
You...
I...
Leave...
Don't..."
I couldn't tell what was happening, but by the looks of it, hyung didn't look so
comfortable.
I shook him awake and he shot up from where he had been lying milliseconds ago.
"Hyung?" my voice was heard and he turned to look at me.
"Taemin. Hi." he said, smiling a smile that made Barbie's smile look sincere.
"Why. Hyung, what happened? Did you have a nightmare?" I spluttered out, eager to
help him feel comfortable again, even if it involved just listening to him talk for years.
He shook his head defiantly.
"Hyung. Talk to me." I urged him to talk it out, but all I got was a look in his eyes, similar
to the face of a kicked puppy looking at his owner in disbelief.
He kept shaking his head without saying anything, and simply put, it was frustrating me.
I grabbed his trembling shoulders and looked him in the eye.
"Look at me hyung, it honestly does help to talk it out. I promise I won't tell anyone. The
more you bottle it up, the more likely you'll explode and push away the ones closest to
you. Loved ones. The people that you never want to lose. Ever."
He looked at me skeptically, before sighing.
"I'm trusting you, Taemin." he mumbled before explaining what had just happened in his
sleep.
Jonghyun's p.o.v.
Why does Taemin want me to talk to him?
"Look at me hyung, it honestly does help to talk it out. I promise I won't tell anyone. The
more you bottle it up, the more likely you'll explode and push away the ones closest to
you. Loved ones. The people that you never want to lose. Ever."
I kept my pokerface on, but was frozen by the younger's powerful words.
I might have sighed, but decided to do a bit of storytelling.
"I'm trusting you, Taemin." I said, then started explaining.
"The dream. Well, nightmare, I guess. It wasn't much, honestly. Just my family. My dad,
mom, and me. We were just walking along the beach with my mom taking souvenir
pictures along the way. All of a sudden, a blue opaqueness washed over me. My dad,
trying to pull me out, my mom, pulling him away, telling him I wasn't worth saving. Then
my dad bringing me up to the surface, falling under right afterwards. I felt a hand striking
me across the face, yelling at me because I was a terrible son. My dad was gone.
Because of me. He died. Because of me. Not because of a helicopter crash-landing like
in real life. But because he was saving me. He died saving me."
I sat there numbly, both of us sitting in a silence.
Not awkward, but comfortable.
I looked up at him, expecting eyes full of pity.
But instead, I got a grateful look.
And he was sitting there.
A silly little tear rolling down his cheek.
I smiled brushing the tear away, trying not to cry myself.
"Hyung." I heard his voice say.
When my eyes focused back on him, there was a split second before he pulled me into
a hug, whispering, "Thank you. I'm sorry." leaving me absolutely confused.
"What?" the words tumbled from my mouth.
He smiled before saying, "Thank you for letting me hear you out." before hugging
me tighter, snuggling into my shoulder for a few seconds, then leaving the room right
afterwards.
