~Yunho and Yuchun~ Picture a game of chess. The players are royal, seemingly cruel and manipulating in a bid to survive each other. Their family are but chess pieces sliding across the smooth board, pawns that are hardly ever expected to oppose. Only the survivor gets to say ‘checkmate’.

~Junsu~ A flawless piece of transparent crystal, pure and untainted. Knowing only freedom, never bounded by rules, yet forced to bend and cave in to what the future has in stall for him. Learning to love is never easy when ‘the Yuchun’ is your fated other half.

Character outline:

Yoochun (27): Shogun of ancient Japan, a cruel and ambitious man with high expectations for himself as well as everyone around him. He is the type of person that no one would dare to trifle with, due to upbringing. He and his brother were trained to be warriors by their sadistic father. Nevertheless, as heartless as he is, he still shares a special bond with his brother despite how they barely interact with one another.

In a failed negotiation to get Yunho to give him someone of royal birth as pledge, he is forced to oblige and give Jejung up as bride in exchange. He tells himself that he can use this opportunity as a chance to destroy Yunho, but with matters of the heart hindering him since his meeting with Junsu, can he do it?

Jejung (22): Jaejoong is the name given to him by Yunho. Yuchun’s younger brother. It was inculcated in him since a tender age that his brother, Yuchun, would be the heir and he will always be the pawn to aid his brother’s conquests, whether he likes it or not. His upbringing also made him a seemingly austere person though he is in reality a kind hearted latter who wouldn’t even kill an ant.

He is betrothed to Yunho as part of the conditions of the peace treaty but has an ulterior motive. He is to function as a spy and help Yuchun assassinate Yunho. Sacrificing everything in order to fulfil his duty, both body and soul included, can he finish what he has started?

Yunho (28): Emperor of ancient Korea. He is stubborn as a mule and would never bow his head though constantly subjected to Yuchun’s bombarding and sabotages. He dotes on his only brother, Junsu, but has no choice but to give the young one up, since Yunchun wants someone of royal bloodline as the guaranty for their ‘truce’.

To ensure Junsu’s safety, the smart king also demands a surety from Yuchun, in a form of marriage as well. Feelings of abhorrence towards Yuchun brought about initial aversion towards Jejung, but his hardened heart eventually falters and he falls in love with the latter. 

Junsu (19): A young prince with a bubbly disposition forced into marriage in order to resolve the feud between the two neighbouring countries. He understands his brother’s difficult position, but is unwilling to appear ‘traded’, especially after witnessing how Jejung was brought into his family.
