To My Melody
Description
When a strange girl rescues Baekhyun from certain death, she shows him her silent, song-deprived world, hoping for a rescue in return. Though at first uncertain, Baekhyun finds himself slowly opening up to the unique melody she alone can hear and he alone can sing.
Author's note:
I don't own Baekhyun; Baekhyun belongs to himself. Well, here I've written another story, this time, a two-shot. Recently, I've been really into the whole "missing senses" thing, and I thought about how interesting it would be for an idol to fall in love with a deaf girl, especially an idol who's loved for his singing voice. And how awful would it be for a kpop fangirl to suddenly be unable to hear her idol's voice? Well, the rest of the stort will require some suspension of disbelief. I've spun up a story here trying to experiment with those themes of hearing and unhearing.
In addition, the song lyrics present in the story come from DBSK's "You're My Melody", written by Kim Young Hu for their 4th Korean album, Mirotic. Although the lyrics weren't used with pemrission, I don't claim ownership over the song, it's lyrics, the album, or DBSK. I'm aware that it wasn't written by my OC's close relative, but for the sake of the story, let's supend our disbelief and at least pretend, ok? You can listen to the song here. The lyrics were taken from the video and this website. I've also never been to Han River, so I apologize for inaccuracies. In addition, the sign language gestures I use in this chapter are American Sign Language. I don't know if there's a discrepancy between American and Korean sign language, but um.. yeah. That's it.

Baekhyun had never met a girl like her before. Yet aside from being deaf, there wasn't much to set her apart from other girls. Indeed, she was rather plain in looks and while she was playful, so were many other girls. But she was a song, he thought. And like songs, they were never much spectucarly special amidst other songs. But what made them special was what they meant to the singer or the composer. And that was what made this Melody so special. In the same way that she attached herself to him for the sole reason that he sang songs that only she could hear, Baekhyun felt that she was unique, too. While he sang songs only she could hear, she was a song that only he could sing.
