"Maybe this isn't the best idea.  Family is important.  You shouldn't let this happen," he said.  He wouldn't look at me.

"You are so full of crap," I spat angrily.  "Fine.  I'll listen to my father.  I'll go back alone and tell him I'll be a good little daughter.  I'll say I'm sorry, that I'll stay with Caleb.  We'll graduate and run off to live happily ever after."  The sarcasm was a little harsh, but I was pissed.

"Maya, I'm just saying..."

"No, that's what I'm going to do.  I hope you're happy, but..."  I stepped closer to him so that I was right in his face.  The rain was coming down harder now and each drop that stung my skin before, I couldn't feel anymore.  My voice almost a low growl.  "One condition.  You have to look me in the eye and tell me you don't love me.  Tell me not being with me wouldn't drive you crazy.  Say, 'I don't love you, Maya.'  Say, 'You should be with Caleb.'  Tell me that!  Look me in the eye and tell me you don't want me," I dared.

His chest puffed out and fell heavily with the breath he in and let out.  He swiped a hand through his rain soaked hair.  A sarcastic laugh escaped his mouth.

And he looked me square in the eye.
