~Giving the Best a Try~

You made your way down the street, eyes glued to your cell phone screen. Your boss just emailed you about your next shift. On your day off. It wasn't fair, you worked every single shift and then some. You called your boss.

"Tokade-san? I was calling about my next shift...hai, I got the mail...hai, but..."

you concentrated on his words more than the people on the sidewalk.

"But! Its my day off! Can't Fuke-kun take it? I've taken many of his shifts before..." your eyes widened as he said words that you thought you'd never hear.

"Nani? Could you repeat that...?" His words were clear: You're fired. Your heart sank. "W-what? How can this be??" you could feel the sadness slowly washing over you. "I've worked there for years! How...how could you do this?!" he hung up.

You stared at the phone, walking at a slower pace. "...how..." your bottom lip quivered, signaling the tears. "I never-oof!" you walked into someone's side, sending you stumbling.

"Ouch," you rubbed your nose. "Sumimasen, I wasn't-"

"Sakura?" the familiarity of the voice made you look up.

"Eh? Yamaa-kun?" apparently you had walked into your ex-crush, Yamaa Tomohisa, or better known as your best friend's boyfriend. He looked as surprised as you were. You bowed. "Ah, I'm sorry. I wasn't looking." he nodded.

"Me neither...hey!" he grabbed your shoulders, startling you. "Do you know where Hisako is? I've tried calling her for a while now." he sounded worried. You slowly shook your head, fighting back the blush. "I dont-" he shook you again, but with much force. "You are best friends right?! Shouldn't you know where she is?!" he practically yelled. His anger made you snap. You didn't need his drama with your own problems and stress. You pulled back from his grasp, glaring.

"Hey! Don't you start yelling at me, she's YOUR girlfriend. I d-dont need your...*sniffle*" you looked down, emotions getting the better of you. Yamaa seemed to realize what he's done and calmed down.

"I-Im sorry Sakura. Its just, I think Hisako is cheating...oh no, did I hurt you?" he mumbled, delicately placing a hand on your shoulder. He made you look up then jumped back in surprise. Tears were streaming down your face. His face softened considerably as he pulled you into an embrace. "I didn't mean to...I'm so sorry Sakura." you just let him hold you. It wasn't hurting anyone. Crying, you laid your head on his chest.

"Its *hic* not your fault...I have a lot on my mind *sniff* I need to study for my university exam, my boss fired me...you and Hisako, its sad." you looked up at him sadly. "I'm okay. I'm more worried about you." you admitted.

Yamaa smiled and wiped away the tears with his thumb. "You know what, it doesn't matter anymore. If Hisako doesn't care enough to answer her phone, I shouldn't either." you nodded slightly, moving from his grasp.

"I'm her friend, but I don't agree with what ages doing-whatever it may be. I wish you the best." you bowed and wiped away the rest of the tears from your face. Yamaa frowned.

"But the best is right here." he said.

You blinked. "What do you mean?"

As if answering your question, he wrapped his arm around your shoulder. "Its just you and me now. You've always been there for me when Hisako and I had our arguments." you stared at him in disbelief.

"What...w-what are you trying to say...?" was it what you were thinking. Yamaa flashed a smile and kissed your head. "I think we should give us a try, if that's okay." your mind exploded. Its what you'd never thought of before. But...what about Hisako? But then again, she bailed on him. Had her chance. You nodded with a smile on your face.

"I'd love to."
