Chapter Four

A Class of Delinquents? They Don't Mix Well With Girls

Jun stretched, realizing it was the end of class already, having been tired since the evening before.  “You guys ready to go?” she asked, turning to look at Sawada and his group, but noticed their desks were empty.  “You five are a hopeless bunch.”

“You’re going to call us hopeless when you’re the one who’s slow?” Minami spoke, chuckling.  “Hurry up, we still have to head over to your apartment, Jun-chan.”

“OI!  MATTEYO!” she screamed at the group.  Jun ran up the stairs, quickly putting Minami into a chokehold.  “Nani?  Jun-chan?”  She scowled at the boy before letting him go and turning to Uchi.  “Time to go, huh?  You guys can only come into my apartment if you can catch me.  Ja ne!”  Jun opened the classroom door, running out of it, past Sawada and Kuma.  She smiled at the two before she turned to face in front of her and continue sprinting.  Jun knew that she would get caught by at least Uchi, because of how long his legs were.  “Gomen ne, minna-san.  I have to get ahead.”

-----

Jun was caught after a half-hour of running in meaningless circles.  She laid on the ground in the park, catching her breath.  “You guys are so not fair.  I’m so freaking short and you all are so freaking tall and have such long legs that it KILLS me.”

“Whose problem is that?” Uchi smirked.  He was the one who had caught her, texting the other guys where they were.

“My parents.  Genetics.  My grandparents are so short and my parents are so tall as well.  It’s scary.  The shortness skipped a generation.”

Arigatou, Uchi.  It would’ve been hard for us to catch her,” Noda spoke after he caught his breath.  “Kuma, you’re really slow!”

“Ha.  See?  I’m not the only slow one.  Besides, I got sick of running, so I just stopped.”  Jun informed, grinning.

“Liar.  You were running for your life!”

“I lied to you all about my apartment.  It’s really dirty.”

“Now you’re lying to us.”

Sawada chuckled.  He didn’t seem to have been as out of breath as the others, but he was still leaning over the two.  “Let’s go.  If that damn Head Teacher sees us, then we’ll be the ones to get into trouble.”  He reached out his hand to help Uchi stand.

“Don’t forget about me~!” she sang.  “Help me up, help me up!”  When no one helped Jun, she pushed herself up to stand.  “You guys are so freaking mean.  I’m the only girl, and you all keep ignoring me when I ask for help.”

“Haven’t we helped you enough?” Uchi joked, patting the dirt off her clothes.  “Which way do we head from here?”

“Left.  Duh.  We came from the right.”

“You ran in so many ing circles, it confused me!”

“Not my fault you wouldn’t give up.”

“Yeah, it is.  You should have let us just walk with you to your apartment.  You really don’t need to be running in your condition.”  Uchi seemed more concerned than the others.

“What condition?  The stitches in my scalp?  That’s nothing compared to everything else that I’ve gone through.” Jun smiled, beginning to walk.  She still wore the t-shirt and shorts from earlier that morning, not having had a chance to change.  “Don’t be surprised at my apartment.”

“What do you mean by ‘surprised’?” Noda asked warily, holding his school bag to shield his face.  “Why are there so many people in front of this building?”

“What buildi-  Oh.  This is my apartment building.  This is not what I meant by ‘surprised’.  How many people are here.”  Jun pushed through the group, unlocking the front door with her key.  “Minna-san!  Don’t forget your keys from now on, all right?  What if there’s a day when none of us have a key or I’m really late from school?”

Hai.”  Most of the people in the crowd were elderly, small children near them.

“I know you all are forgetful, but I will make a chain for you all to put your keys on so you won’t lose them.  500 yen each.” Jun called, Uchi holding the door open for her as the others in Sawada’s group headed inside.  “Ja ne.

“What was that about?” Minami asked aloud.  Sawada wasn’t doing much talking at all.

“Eh?  They always forget their keys, and to have a key chain on there, it would be easier to find.  Just trying to get some business.  I also repair some of the sinks when I have the extra time.”  Jun started walking up the stairs, leaving the elevators open for the men and women entering the building.  “It’s a long walk, by the way.”

“How come?” asked Kuma.

“I’m on the top floor of this building.”

“Then why can’t we just take the elevator?” Uchi complained.

“There’s only seven floors.”

“Eh?  Hontouni?

“Looked like more, didn’t it?”

Hai.

-----

The talking ceased as the others ran out of breath from the walk.  Jun was easily talking to Sawada while the others huffed and puffed.  “It’s hilarious how Sawada-kun is the only one of you all that’s not out of breath from this.  You four are weak.” She glanced back at the others before Noda jumped onto her back.

“Give me a piggyback ride,” he managed to say, breathing rather hard.

“Wimp.  But fine, I guess I can give you a piggy back ride.  It’s only two more floors.”  Jun hooked her arms under Noda’s legs, easily carrying the male.

“How come we couldn’t get one?” Uchi whined.

“You guys didn’t ask.”  Jun grinned back at them, continuing her walking.  “So, Sawada-kun, your reason for not wanting to duel me is because I’m a girl?  That’s kind of harsh.”

“And also because you’re injured.”

“Waaah.  Who knew YOU could be nice?” Jun stretched her legs at the top of the stairs.  “There’s only one apartment on this floor because it’s more like an attic to a house than anything.”  She set Noda down before unlocking the door, slipping her shoes off and stepping inside the house.  “If you’re more comfortable with your shoes on, you can keep them on.  I don’t care.”

“Wow…  Shin’s apartment is bigger than this,” Kuma stated quietly, amazed at how small it was.  There weren’t any bedrooms, just a corner with a small army cot in it and a bathroom across from it.  A miniature refrigerator stood on the side in a kitchen type area.  A square-ish table sat next to the cot, and on the other side of the table against a wall was a dresser.

“You guys really aren’t that nice to me or my apartment.”

“You’re the one who said it was more of an attic than an apartment,” Uchi smirked, parking himself on top of the table instead of sitting on the floor.

“Get the hell off my table.  Now.”  Jun ordered.  “You don’t just walk into a girl’s apartment and sit on her table.  Uchi, sit on the floor like everybody else.”

“What will you do if I don’t get down?” Uchi questioned.

“Stick my foot so far up your that you can taste it.”

“Fine, fine.  I’ll get down.  When can I get my clothes back?”

“In about ten minutes.”

“Hai.”

Jun walked to her dresser to pull out a change of clothes and headed towards the restroom.

Uchi grinned at the girl as she walked away, watching her backside.

Sawada shook his head.  “You’re hopeless.”

“You’re point is?”
