As I traveled through the Labyrinth of dreams,
I met God by the River of Styx.
He looked out at the murky water,
Polluted with broken Hopes,
And turned to me.
His face was young, but his expression old,
And weary, and oh so lost.
It seems as if he's seen too much,
Much, too much of ruined desires,
And wrecked dreams.
I opened my mouth,
And a question escaped my lips
With a breathy gasp.
"Why am I here?"
A faded echo of mischief passed through is eyes
As he replied,
"That's for me to know, and for you to find out."
Time and silence danced around us,
Wearing out the tendrils of faith and belief,
Throwing us into light,
Yanking us into darkness.
Unanswered and unasked questions flitted between us.
"Why are you here?" I finally asked,
Breaking the fragile silence
Constructed through sheer will.
I heard it shatter
As his piercing, soulful eyes lowered.
Seconds stretched out between words,
And agitation and curiousity plagued the air.
Finally, he lifted his head,
And gave me a broken smile,
So sad and so sorrowful.
"I don't know," he answered honestly.
