Moving Day

Translate My Love

Today was the day, JiAe was moving out of the house and summer had just started. She was moving further away from her parents and closer to a bunch of strangers, heck she probably was going to see them more than her parents and she wasn’t even part of their family. But after a bunch of talking nonsense, she had agreed to go for her parent’s sake and her for schooling. If she could get an opportunity like this every day, she’d be in heaven, but somehow it didn’t feel like she was in paradise, she felt like she had just made the biggest mistake of her life.

“I hope this isn’t the biggest mistake in my life,” JiAe huffed sadly as she stuffed her suitcase with her clothes. She was totally moving out, everything was going. This was even worse than college, she wouldn’t even get to come home; she already has a new home. At least she would be able to visit her parents on the weekends.

JiAe slowly sat up and finished packing up her second suitcase trying to fit the rest of her closet into it. After she zipped it up, she moved to her drawer full of crap. First, she packed her notebooks and random pieces of paper, and then she packed her make-up and cleaning utensils like face wash and her toothbrush.

After JiAe finished packing everything, she looked into her room once more, her giant closet that she always loved, her queen-sized bed that always kept her comfortable when she slept, and her desk where she would sit at every night during school days staying up ‘til midnight doing nothing progressive.

“JiAe-ah, are you done packing?” Her mother’s voice echoed throughout the hallway as if it would be the last time she heard it.

“Deh omma, are they here?” JiAe asked as she rolled one of her suitcases behind her into the living room.

“Almost, they just gave me a call saying that they’re almost here. How much did you pack?” Mrs. Song asked surprised seeing how little JiAe had with her.

“My whole room,” JiAe sighed sadly sitting herself down on the couch placing her head into her hands.

“In just this?” Her mother asked looking at the luggage.

“Ani, I have one more suitcase in my room along with two more duffel bags and another backpack,” JiAe sighed again looking up at her mother. “Omma, are you guys sure about this?”

“JiAe-ah, you sound sadder than your father and me,” Mrs. Song laughed quietly sitting down next to JiAe. “Everything will be okay alright, we’ve already been through this with your older brother we’ll be able to live through this.”

JiAe frowned at the memory of her older brother, she hasn’t visited him for a while she’s been so caught up with her school that she forgot. She slowly looked up to her mother again, giving her a weak smile. “We’ll do this together?”

“Of course,” she smiled placing her hands over JiAe’s.

“Honey, JiAe, they’re here,” her father shouted from the kitchen as he ran to open the door.

“Why don’t you go and get the rest of your stuff,” Mrs. Song said getting up with JiAe.

“Deh,” JiAe quietly said walking to her room.

“We’ll see you then Mr. and Mrs. Song,” Mrs. Xie said politely before she walked out the door to the car.

“Omma, appa, I’ll come and visit whenever I can,” JiAe smiled happily to her parents giving both of them hugs before taking the rest of her luggage to the car.

“What do you think of it?” Mrs. Kim asked as they stood outside looking at it and surely it wasn’t an apartment.

“I…I thought I was going to live in an apartment, but this.. this is a,” JiAe stuttered with her eyes wide-open.

“It’s a house darling,” Mrs. Xie laughed.

“I know, but it’s.. it’s so big! And what..?” JiAe exclaimed dumbfounded.

“Let me explain,” Mrs. Kim began, “we decided that if you all live together it’d be easier for all of you guys and you’d be able to attend the classes easier.”

“What about transportation?” JiAe asked taking everything in.

“Oh, you’re still getting your car of course; all of them will be here in two days. MeiXing, MyungSoo, and HyunWoo will be here tomorrow so you can pick out your room first,” Mrs. Xie politely smiled as she guided JiAe inside along with Mrs. Kim.

“All of them?” JiAe looked back to Mrs. Xie and Kim.

“Oh well, you all have to have you own cars right?” Mrs. Kim smiled brightly.

“Omo!” JiAe immediately stopped when they walked through the front door. “Amazing,” she exhaled in disbelief.

Mrs. Xie and Kim smiled at the innocent JiAe as she looked around the house.

“Come on in, this is your new home,” Mrs. Kim happily said bringing JiAe in. “Go choose your room, there are four rooms.”

“O..okay,” JiAe smiled still shocked from the beauty and size of the house.

JiAe walked along the hallway leading to the stairs until she came to the first door. Poking her head through the door, she noticed the slanted ceiling and the bright color of the room giving it a cheerful aura.

Continuing on, she carefully climbed the stairs, scared that she might do something wrong. As she reached the top, she saw an open door at the end of the hallway along with two doors on the right side of the hallway with another staircase and three doors on the left side. She reached the first door and opened it slowly.

Her jaw dropped as she walked in, looking around and looking at everything intently, but not touching anything, JiAe felt overwhelmed by the luxurious bedroom. Quickly, she left the room shutting the door behind her. As her heart beat quickened, JiAe excitedly opened the next door ready to take it in.

When she opened the door, she smiled since it wasn’t as luxurious as the other room, but she did notice the little fancy things here and there. JiAe explored the room a bit, looking at the closet and drawers, “It’s so fancy here. I feel so out of place.” Leaving the room, JiAe slowly shut the door behind her. Curiosity took over JiAe making her skip the last few doors going straight to the very last room.

JiAe noticed that it was less luxurious and fancy like the last two bedrooms, but more similar to the first room she saw. It made her feel more at home. Happily, JiAe walked in and looked at the two beds and then the desk. She turned around and gasped, there was a giant closet - just like her old one – except bigger on the left side of the wall, and a door leading to her own bathroom. After roaming the bathroom, JiAe hopped into the room just as Mrs. Kim and Mrs. Xie walked in.

“So do have the room you want in mind?” Mrs. Kim asked smiling back at JiAe.

“I think this one is perfect,” JiAe grinned happily as she looked out the window.

“Did you want to start unpacking?” Mrs. Xie suggested as she walked around the room.

“That’d be fantastic,” JiAe smiled as she walked out of the room with Mrs. Xie and Kim.

“We’ll be going now then JiAe,” Mrs. Xie smiled before getting into the car.

“JiAe, can I speak to you,” Mrs. Kim asked walking up to JiAe.

“Yeah, of course,” JiAe smiled sweetly looking up at Mrs. Kim.

“I’ve never had a daughter of my own, only MyungSoo, so I see you as my own daughter too. And if you want to, please don’t hesitate to call me omma too okay?” Mrs. Kim gently said.

“Deh eomoni,” JiAe immediately replied smiling a bit.

“Also, there are already utensils for a daily life and food inside. We’ve already got everything set up; all you have to do now is live in it!” Mrs. Kim excitedly squealed before giving JiAe a quick hug then leaving.

After Mrs. Kim and Xie left, JiAe locked the front door and explored the rest of the house. There was the living room, kitchen, dining room, 3 bedrooms, along with the three bathrooms upstairs – counting hers – and the fourth one downstairs, a storage closet upstairs, the staircase upstairs to another living room with another staircase leading to the rooftop, and outside with a swimming pool and giant space.

“This is the life,” JiAe smiled cheerfully before running back inside. “Okay time to unpack.”

After JiAe finished unpacking and placing everything where she thought it should go, she went down to the kitchen to cook up some dinner.

“It’s so quiet here living alone,” JiAe said as she sat down in the living room with her plate of food. “Maybe I should watch some TV, I think I might just do that,” JiAe told herself grabbing the control turning on the TV. She switched between the music performance shows to the stations showing new dramas and old to educational channels for kids to variety shows.

When JiAe finished her dinner, she quickly did the dishes and debated with herself about what to do next.

“Sleep or computer? I should call omma and appa and then go to sleep!” JiAe excitedly went to her room shutting the door and jumping onto her bed dialing her parents. She waited until the lady came on telling her that they were unavailable. She tried again two more times before she gave up frowning in defeat, “They must already be asleep. I should probably go to sleep too.” JiAe jumped off her bed and walked to her bathroom shoulders slumped.

 2 am

“Aish, I can’t sleep alone in this gigantic new house,” JiAe groaned sitting up in bed pulling her hair.

5 minutes later

“Okay let’s go through the list,” JiAe smiled to herself as she looked around the living room. “Giant blanket, check, giant teddy bear, check, popcorn, check, candy, check, water, check, remote control, check, stay up all night since you can’t sleep, working on it.” She then jumped onto the couch happily before turning on the TV.

3 am

“Aish! Jinjja! Why can’t I fall asleep? I’m so tired!” JiAe shouted in frustration groaning. “Omma, appa, eottoke?”

4:30 am

“Am I really falling asleep?” JiAe asked herself tiredly as she lied her head down on the blanket. “Yah,” She cheerfully but tiredly said to herself.

◘ ◘ ◘

He walked up the steps, key in his hand ready to open the door.

RING! RING! IT’S OMMA, ANSWER ME!

“Oh, omma,” He answered the phone, “Deh, I was just about to get in, I’ll call you later.” He hung up quickly slipping it back into his pocket before unlocking the door and pushing it to be greeted with the sound of screaming and evil laughter.

Kekekeke, who do you guys think it is???
