Tiffany Hwang’s two-year-old relationship with Lee Donghae had been smooth sailing until one night—when she received an e-mail from her parents who are based in Manhattan for years now.

Foreword

PROLOGUE

Tiffany unconsciously swung her swivel chair sideways as she did her daily checking of e-mails in her inbox.

Going past the me2day notifications, she continued to scroll down. “Nope, nope, nope,” Tiffany mumbled to herself, selecting the numerous inbox clutter to delete it.

As she was carefully double-checking each item before sending it to the ‘Trash,’ a single e-mail stood out.

Her heart did one hard slam against her chest as she caught glimpse of the sender’s name. Tiffany had to lean closer to the screen to make sure if she read it right the first time.

Hwang Mira, her mother.

With trembling fingers, Tiffany opened the e-mail.

We’ll call through a video chat tomorrow night, Korean time.

Just one simple sentence was all it took to make the hairs on the back of Tiffany’s neck stand up. She quickly closed the e-mail and sat back on her chair, completely troubled.
