Alli looks at him in the eyes, trying to find any fault in his words. It’s his subtle way of soothing her and rejecting her. Telling her to forget that she ever loved him; to forget that he was anything more than her best friend because right now, reality called for that. She needs to be a student at school and he needs to be her best friend at university.
