Foreword

Should you be one of the heroes of the Fantastic 4, you would be Sue Storm, or more commonly known as Invisible Girl. Not because you have the power to disappear in everyone else’s eyes, but because nobody notices you – nobody appreciates your presence. Your mother remarried a merchant who originally resides a thousand miles away from your childhood home, so you had to start a new life in the other side of the world. The whole place was different, as well as the people. Especially in school wherein as though you were the sole foreign cell in an organism’s body. Due to your differences, you basically have no friends, and no one wanted to sit with you during lunch. And so, you kept your head down and busied yourself through making beautiful sketches of your own perception of utopia while imagining yourself living in it. You made sketches and paintings, and you filled your room with all your artworks. You had always known that you’re exceptional at this, and the appraisals you get from your professors explained it very well. You undoubtedly have a great skill in creating an alternate world. It was your way of coping from loneliness and stress.

One day you got so bored and desperate that you made a sketch of a man who is of your age. His features were so detailed he seemed so real. You listed down all his qualities and some super powers, and you imagined yourself being his bestfriend. You taped this sketch on your bedroom wall. Before you go to sleep or go out, you talked to this imaginary friend of yours as though he could really hear you, but in reality, he was just smiling at you. However, his smile made you feel secure. This had been included in your daily routine, until you woke up one morning to an empty piece of paper on your wall. Your imaginary friend was no longer there but your name on the bottom right of the paper remained. You thought someone had stolen or erased it or something, but when you turned to the other side, he was there. His clothes and his features looked exactly how you drew him. He was sitting on the bed next to you, staring at you. He smiled at you and you knew it was him. The smile that kept you company without the presence of others. Your sketch came to life. He was alive. Now, you have a real friend. But what if one of you starts to fall for one another? Is that even possible? Is it possible to love a fictional character? What’s the worst thing that could happen if a human begets a lover who is merely a product of your wild, wild imagination?
