Just A Chance

Something's Different About You (Hyosung & Kikwang Oneshot Collection)

Plot: Kikwang likes Hyosung but Hyosung is a cold and arrogant girl who finds him annoying (Requested by JellyBeauty)

“How long are you going to ignore me?”

Hyosung rolled her eyes but didn’t answer. She heard the chair across from her scrape against the floor and then the footsteps that made their way to her.

“Hyosung…”

Hyosung sighed in frustration. She crossed her arms across her chest and decided to look out the window. Her view was soon blocked by the sight of his body.

“You’re annoying” she finally mumbled.

She looked up, frowning as Kikwang smiled down at her. He laughed and Hyosung looked away as she heard Bom laughing at them.

“Kikwang, what are you up to this time?” Bom asked as she sat down next to Hyosung.

“Bom, please take him away” Hyosung voiced.

Bom smiled at her best friend.

“Hyosung, Kikwang is just showing you affection.”

Hyosung rolled her eyes.

“Whatever” she said.

“So, Hyosung, I was thinking that we could go to the music festival in Hongdae this weekend.”

Kikwang placed a flyer on Hyosung’s desk. Hyosung looked at it and almost sighed in frustration. Kikwang smiled once more.

“Your favorite band is playing” he said.

Hyosung couldn’t help but to show interest but she immediately returned to being blank. Instead, she looked at Kikwang with a bored look.

“I don’t want to go” she replied.

Kikwang’s smile didn’t falter.

“Oh? Then what do you want to do then?” he asked.

“Nothing with you” she replied.

Bom frowned and lightly pinched Hyosung.

“Don’t be mean” Bom warned.

Kikwang laughed.

“I’m used to it” he voiced as he looked at Hyosung.

She caught his gaze and quickly looked away. She didn’t like looking into his eyes.  She uncrossed her arms and stood up from her seat. She grabbed her school bag in the process.

“I’m going home” she voiced.

She looked at Bom, who smiled sadly.

“I have choir practice” she said.

Hyosung nodded in understanding and continued on her way out of the classroom.  It wasn’t long before she heard the familiar hurried footsteps echoing down the hall. A breathless Kikwang soon took his place next to her. She looked at him briefly and he smiled widely. She didn’t say anything to him. She never knew what to say to him anymore. He was a constant annoyance to her but no matter how much she was mean to him or how much she yelled at him, he always came. He always stayed.

Once Hyosung made it to the school entrance, she turned to face him. He didn’t flinch as he saw her angry expression.

“Leave me alone” she voiced in her usual monotone voice.

Kikwang ignored her and looked around.

“Are you hungry? Let’s get something to eat.”

Hyosung frowned and sprinted across the street to get away from him. Of course, Kikwang simply followed like always.

“Where are you going? Your house is the other way” Kikwang said once he caught up with her.

Hyosung stopped in her tracks and glared at him.

“Go home, Lee Kikwang.”

Kikwang smirked.

“It’s late. I should walk you back home. If you want, I can make you something to eat” he replied.

“No” she simply said.

She continued to walk until she reached a bar. She reached out to open the door but Kikwang grabbed her arm.

“What are you doing?” he asked.

Hyosung merely pointed to the help wanted sign that was posted outside the building.

“You can’t work here Hyosung, you’re underage” Kikwang lectured.

Hyosung rolled her eyes. She was nearly old enough. After all, she was about to graduate high school and she knew for sure that she didn’t plan on going to college. She wanted to work and this was a good place to start.

“They already agreed that my age wouldn’t be a problem. Now let go” she said.

Kikwang tightened his grip on her arm.

“Let go” she repeated.

“Don’t go in” Kikwang said.

“I said to let go. Nothing is going to happen to me” Hyosung argued.

“Let’s just get home. I’ll make you some dinner and I’ll even stop bothering you so much. Just don’t go in there. I just can’t allow you to go in there” Kikwang voiced.

Hyosung narrowed her eyes at Kikwang.

“What? You can’t allow me?!”

She snatched her arm away from his grip.

“Yah!! Who do you think you are, huh!? You are in no position to demand things from me or to forbid me from doing anything. Are you my dad? Are you my boyfriend?! No, you’re not!”

“Hyosung-” Kikwang started but Hyosung cut him off.

“You’re barely even a friend. Stop being such an annoyance and leave me alone!! How many times do I have to tell you that?! ”

She looked at him and she could tell her words had hurt him. She looked away from him, suddenly feeling guilty. She didn’t know what to say anymore.  She sighed and opened the door to the night club.

“It’s my life. I decide what I want to do with it. So just go home, Lee Kikwang.”

As she was about to step inside, he called out to her.

“Is it so wrong to like you?” he asked.

She felt something in her chest as she processed the question. Hyosung turned to look at him and was surprised to see him smiling at her and looking at her with bright eyes.

“You should stop liking me” she replied in a low voice.

Kikwang blinked.

“I can’t” he countered with a shrug.

Hyosung frowned at his response.

“Well…you really should.”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hyosung smirked as she saw the group of girls currently blocking her in.
“What’s this?” she asked.
One of the girls, whom she recognized as Min, stepped up to her.
“We will only tell you this once. We’re tired of you clinging on to Kikwang. Stay away from him from now on.”
Hyosung scoffed and rolled her eyes.
“You have to be kidding me…”
“Why don’t you just run him off like all the other guys that have liked you?! Could it be that you like him?!”
Hyosung glared at them. Who were they to tell her what to do? She ignored their question, deciding to keep silent.
“Are you going to give up on Kikwang?” Min asked.
Hyosung shrugged her shoulders. The girls looked at each other before they nodded to each other. Min reached out and grabbed Hyosung.
“Yah!” Hyosung yelled out.
“We’re going to teach you a- AHHH!”
Min screamed as she was slammed up against the lockers.
“Don’t go around touching people like that” Hyosung warned.
She glared at the girls in front of her. They stared back at her with wide eyes as they had witness Hyosung push Min into the lockers.
“Min! Are you okay?” they asked as they huddled around her.
Min had started to cry as she rubbed her back.
“Yah! Why did you do that?” one of the girls asked.
“You’re kidding right? You are the ones trying to bully me and you get mad at me for defending myself?”
Hyosung laughed and shook her head at the girls, not believing what she was hearing.
“If you want to fight me, do it one on one” she voiced.
The girls looked at each other, giving each other nervous looks.
“Why can’t you just leave him alone?” one of the girls asked.
Hyosung rolled her eyes. She rubbed the back of her neck and sighed.
“He’s the one who can’t leave me alone…go bother him about it” she replied.
“What’s going on here?”
They all turned to the source of the voice and found Kikwang at the end of the hall.
“Oppa!” the girls cried out.
He made his way over to them and stopped when he saw the girls kneeling beside Min. He looked at her and then looked at Hyosung.
“Oppa! Look what she did to Min!”
Hyosung crossed her arms across her chest as Kikwang stepped closer to Min.
“Are you okay?” he asked her.
Min nodded as she grabbed his arm. Hyosung began to walk away.
“Hyosung, wait!”
Hyosung turned around as Kikwang made his way to her.
“What?” she asked.
“Are you okay? Did they hurt you?” he asked with great concern.
Hyosung glanced at the girls, who all looked at them in disbelief. She had to admit that she was a bit shocked as well. For Kikwang to trust her was a bit unsettling. Especially after how mean she had been to Kikwang. But she couldn’t help but feel a bit of relief to know that he actually didn’t believe the group of girls.
“Don’t worry about me. Worry about your fan club that goes around beating up girls for you” she replied.
Kikwang grabbed her hand.
“I’m sorry they did this” he began to say.
Hyosung pulled her hand away.
“Make sure it doesn’t happen again.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Hyosung stood stunned as she looked up and found Kikwang waving at her from across the room. She mentally cursed and turned to the bartender next to her.

“Can I take a short break?” she asked.

The bartender nodded and Hyosung quickly made her way over to Kikwang. His grim expression brightened as he saw her approach him.

“What are you doing here?” she asked once she was close enough.

Kikwang smiled widely.

“I came to support you” he replied.

Hyosung didn’t smile as he spoke. She knew exactly why here was there; he was here to make sure nothing happened to her. Although she could appreciate the gesture, she wasn’t someone who needed to be protected and watched over.

“Kikwang…you shouldn’t be here” she began to say.

“I won’t bother you, I promise” he quickly replied.

Hyosung opened to reply but she quickly shut it. Somehow, when he said that he wouldn’t bother her, she felt guilty. Kikwang was just trying to be supportive and look out for her but she always seemed to make him look like the bad guy. She bit her lower lip and thought for a moment before she finally grabbed his arm and led him to a small table.

“Sit here. I’ll bring you something to drink.”

The night went on without a problem. Kikwang kept true to his word and remain in his seat without causing any trouble. He would occasionally catch Hyosung’s gaze and he would smile at her.

“Is that your boyfriend?”

Hyosung looked at her boss, Lee Joon.

“No” she replied and continued to mix a drink.

Joon chuckled a bit.

“I can tell he likes you a lot.”

“I know…its annoying” she mumbled.

Joon nudged her.

“You don’t like him?” he asked with a smirk.

Hyosung ignored the question as she finished mixing a drink and set it on the counter.

“Thanks” the man in front of her said.

She removed her hand from the glass but the man quickly grabbed it.

“Can you have a drink with me?” he slurred.

“Please let go” Hyosung voiced.

She glanced at Joon, who placed his hand on top of the man’s.

“Sir…you can’t do that” he said.

“Stay out of this. I just want to have a drink with her. Is that a crime!?”

“Sir, please!” Joon urged.

The man stood up from his chair as he yanked on Hyosung’s hand. He pulled her over onto the counter, causing her to send various drinks to smash on the ground. The people stared as Joon tried to stop the man.

“Let go!” Hyosung screamed as she tried to free herself.

She grasped at a bottle and was about to swing it when suddenly, a fist came into her sight and connected with his face. The man stumbled and let her go. She watched as Kikwang straightened up and turned to look at her.

“Are you okay?” he asked her.

His concerned eyes searched hers. She couldn’t speak.

“Look out!!”

Before anyone of them could move, a chair came down on Kikwang’s back. The force of the hit jolted him forward and he slammed onto the bar counter.

“Kikwang!” Hyosung called out.

There was a big commotion as various men threw themselves on top of the drunken man and forced him to the ground. Hyosung dropped the bottle she was holding and quickly reached for Kikwang. He groaned as she grabbed his head.

“Are you okay?” he repeated.

She ignored his question.

“Are you okay?” she asked in return, her voice filled with concern.

She searched his face. The chair had also hit his head and a small trail of blood was now going down the side of his face.

“Yeah…” he replied.

Hyosung frowned. He was such a bad liar.

“You idiot” she said in a low voice.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Are you sure you don’t need a ride?” Joon asked.
Kikwang shook his head as he tried to smile.
“I’m okay” he replied.
They looked at each other.
“Sorry about the mess” Kikwang said.
Joon chuckled.
“Don’t worry about it.”
Joon glanced at Hyosung, who was coming out of the back room.
“Don’t do something like that again, though. You gave her quite the fright.”
“Eh?” Kikwang asked.
“Go home safely” Joon said, changing the subject.
Once Hyosung joined them, Joon turned to her.
“I granted your request” he said.
“Thank you” she said with a small bow.
Joon ruffled her hair.
“It’s the least I could do. Sorry you had to go through something like that. Be careful on your way home.”
Hyosung and Kikwang said their goodbye to Joon and made their way out of the bar. Once outside, they walked down the sidewalk in silence. It wasn’t long before their silence was broken.
“Are you mad?” Kikwang asked cautiously.
“Of course I am” she replied automatically.
She glanced at him.
“I’m sorry, Hyosung. I really am. I know I said I wouldn’t cause you trouble-”
Hyosung stopped walking and looked at Kikwang, causing him to stop talking.
“I’m angry because you never think about how your actions affect others.”
Kikwang didn’t understand.
“What do you mean?” he asked.
Hyosung sighed.
“You hang around me all the time and do things for me all the time. Don’t you ever stop to think that maybe things like that make me uncomfortable? Don’t you see that I only have one friend and that I am not used to have others do things for me?”
She looked at his face.
“Don’t you stop to think that I have to endure your fan club on a daily basis? Don’t you know how many girls you hurt?”
She paused for a second before she pointed at his head.
“You act without thinking. I hate that. I told you I could take care of myself but you put yourself in danger anyway. You have no idea how I felt when I saw you slam onto the counter. I thought you died, you selfish bastard.”
She looked away from him, trying to hide the look in her eyes.
“I’m….I’m sorry” Kikwang whispered.
She didn’t say anything as she looked down onto the ground. Kikwang stepped closer to her and reached out his hand, but immediately let it drop to his side.
“I’m sorry you were scared” he voiced.
Hyosung scoffed.
“I wasn’t scared” she countered.
Kikwang chuckled a bit.
“Okay” he replied.
He sighed and leaned against a nearby building.
“I’m sorry I’m such an annoyance to you Hyosung. I know you don’t believe me when I say it…but I really do like you. All the things I ever do are to try to make you happy. So I’m sorry it’s a burden.”
Hyosung looked at him and he showed her a sad smile. No matter what, he always tried to smile for her. He once told her that he wanted to make up for all the smiles she had never shown. He would smile for her so she didn’t have to. She would never admit it, but she really liked that about him. She never felt he was a burden although she did find him annoying sometimes. She knew the reason…she just wasn’t really ready to admit it to him…or herself.
 She cleared as she glanced around the empty street.
“I was thinking…that it would be fun to go to the Hongdae music festival after all…”
She glanced at him.
“With you…just you” she said in a low voice.
Kikwang’s eyes widened a bit.
“What?” he asked in disbelief.
She almost smiled at his cute reaction. It was as though he was a deer caught in headlights.
“You heard me” she replied with a slight frown.
Kikwang laughed happily, and it was a nice thing to hear. He pushed away from the wall.
“Is that what your request was from your boss? To let you have the day off? So you could go on a date-”
“Do you want to go or not?” she asked as she raised her voice.
“Yes…of course I want to go. With you…just you” he replied.
Hyosung felt her face get warm and she mumbled a few curses to herself.
“Are you blushing?”
“Shut up, idiot.”
Their eyes met.
“Come on, I have to walk you home” Hyosung voiced.
She continued walking down the street. Kikwang quickly caught up to her and tugged her sleeve. She stopped to look at him. He smiled and slid his hand down to grab her hand.
“Yah! What are you doing?” Hyosung asked.
She tried to shake him off but Kikwang intertwined their fingers and squeezed gently. It was enough for Hyosung to go silent. She felt a twinge of rush in her chest.
“Aish” she mumbled.
Kikwang laughed once more.
“Okay” he said.
He loosened his hands, his fingers setting her fingers free.
“If you don’t want to…” he started.
Hyosung looked away from him. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to….
Her fingers tightened a bit on his hand. She bit down on her lower lip. She relaxed when Kikwang’s firm grip reassured her.
“I understand…I won’t let you down” he whispered.
He had finally gotten the chance he had been wanting all this time and he wasn't about to ruin it. He pulled her along down the street with a huge smile. He held their hands close to his side as he spoke softly to her. Behind the cover of her bent head, Hyosung smiled.
