Chapter 2: A Girls' Fight

Jr. Spring High

"I hope Hyoyeon got my e-mail." Seohyun said to her self as she hurried up the crowded stairs to Ms. Woo's room on the second floor. That's one thing she hate about e-mail because you'll never know if the other person got your message until they reply. And Hyoyeon hadn't reply yet. Maybe Seohyun should have called Hyoyeon. Yes... in fact, She'd had the same thought that evening before she send that e-mail to Hyoyeon.                                                                          Seohyun's heart was beating pretty fast by the time she reached the top set, and it wasn't only because she's rushing to Mr. Woo's room. Things between her and Hyoyeon have been pretty tense ever since Seohyun beat Hyoyeon in the election to be president of the 3rd yr. HS...especially since Hyoyeon volunteered to be Seohyun's vice president. Seohyun had to choose someone to be her vice president so she came up with this great idea: Anyone who wanted to be Seohyun's vice president had to send her a letter explaining why they wanted to be the vice president. Seohyun was pretty shocked when Hyoyeon wrote to her. But she agreed to make Hyoyeon her vice president right away. It was the least that she could do.      "Were her feelings hurt about having to be my second in command?" Seohyun asked her self. "Maybe." But by now Hyoyeon must have forgotten over it. After all, Hyoyeon volunteered to be Seohyun's vice president so there's no reason for her to be jealous. "Besides, planning the carnival was going to be loads of fun. It was going to be loads of work too but hopefully Hyoyeon and I could handle it, If we could get along" Seohyun said.      Seohyun paused for a second and brushed a few stray of her blond curls hair.                                          "Of course we could get along. I could get along with everyone. It was my job to get along with everyone. I am the class president so I should be friendly and make Hyoyeon feel welcome." Seohyun said to her self as she walk along the corridors to Ms. Woo's room.                        She take a deep breath as she strolled through Ms. Woo's room. She wore the biggest smile she could manage. She saw Hyoyeon was sitting in the front row of the empty classroom. Hyoyeon has a notebook opened to a clean page and a pen on top of it.                                                                              "Hi Kristin," Hyoyeon said. Hyoyeon didn't even smile to Seohyun and she looked blank.                    "Um... hi," Seohyun said cautiously, and she looked up at the clock. "Whoops its 11:50 a.m." She was 5 minutes late. Seohyun sat down in the chair next to Hyoyeon.                                    "Did you get my e-mail?" Seohyun asked. Hyoyeon just nodded her expression didn't change. She pulled a long, word-processed list out of her notebook and held it in front of Seohyun's face.                                                                                                                                                     "Yes, I get your e-mail" Hyoyeon answered dully. "And I did my homework." Hyoyeon added.                                                                                                                                                                        "Homework?...Ouch," Seohyun siad to herself. Obviously Hyoyeon thought that e-mail was a command to her.                                                                                                                                                                                             "Should we go over our ideas? Seohyun asked.                                                                                             "Ok go," Hyoyeon answered.                                                                                                                                             "Let's start with food. I thought it would be fun to do the usual carnival stuff." Seohyun said with excitement.                                                                                                                                            "Like What?" Hyoyeon asked.                                                                                                                            "You know, hot dogs and ice cream and cotton candies." Seohyun said enthusiastically.                 "Ice cream,? Remember what happened in the gym during the homecoming? the ice cream melted all over." Hyoyeon said and she rolled her eyes.                                                                               "Oh yeah. I forgot about that, Maybe we can get a cart or a freezer or something?" Seohyun said and Hyoyeon nodded doubtfully.                                                                                                              "Sounds expensive, but i guess we could look into it." Hyoyeon answered.                                                                  "So, what kind of food were you thinking of?" Seohyun asked.                                                                     "Something healthy," Hyoyeon said.                                                                                                                                                 "Healthy?" Seohyun said shockingly.                                                                                                                     "Like rice shakes," Hyoyeon explained. Seohyun's smile faltered. Seohyun don't wanna be rude, but she hate weird diet food like the kind of food her mom eats. Seohyun's mom used to be a model. Her mom was superthin and obsessed with staying y and fit.                                  "What's wrong with rice shakes?" Hyoyeon asked.                                                                                   "Why don't we just try chocolate ones, they are yummy and they have no cholesterol." Seohyun interuppted.                                                                                                                                                 "Some people just care about what they eat." Hyoyeon said and she rolled her eyes.                                                             This time, Seohyun was starting to get annoyed.                                                                                            "Ok, chocolates, fine I agree with that now in fact, you're the PRESIDENT so you're the one who make choices. Maybe we should move on?" Hyoyeon siad emphasizing the word PRESIDENT. Seohyun took a deep breath and looked at her notes.                                                                            "Ok, Maybe we should talk about the decorations. Don't you have any ideas?" Seohyun asked.                                                                                                                                                               "Sure," Hyoyeon replied shortly.                                                                                                                "So, what are they?" Seohyun said. Hyoyeon leaned back in her chair.                                          "I thought we could do blue-and-silver decorations," Hyoyeon suggested. "We'd save a lot of money reusing some of the stuff from homecoming." Hyoyeon added.                                     Seohyun was a little bit concerned. "Blue and silver were about the most boring possible colors I could imagine. Especially since they had already been used." Seohyun thought to herself. But Seohyun don't wanna be negative, They were finally having a somewhat normal conversation.                                                                                                                                   "That's... an interesting idea," Seohyun said carefully.                                                                        "What did you have in mind?" Hyoyeon asked with a scowl. Seohyun cleared .         "Well, I thought a sixties theme would be neat. You know, peace signs and tie-dye." Seohyun answered.                                                                                                                                         "Tie-dye?" Hyoyeon said with a laugh. Hyoyeon shook her head and lowered her eyes, smiling to hereself.                                                                                                                                          "Oh yeah, That really cool are you kiddin' me?" Hyoyeon said sarcastically.                                   "What?" Seohyun demanded. Seohyun's voice rose slightly, but she couldn't help it.                                "This was not going the way I'd planned. Brainstorming is about creative give-and-take. But Hyoyeon was just shooting down my ideas. Didn't she remember that this whole carnival was my idea in the first place? I felt like saying: If you're jealous that I won the election, just come out and say it. But I knew that we'd get in a full-fledged fight at that point, and I was still hoping to salvage what we could do of this meeting." Seohyun said to herself. Suddenly Hyoyeon stared at the door and Seohyun looked back too and blood rushed to her face. Sunny was standing in the doorway with a big smirk on her face. No doubt Sunny heard Seohyun and Hyoyeon arguing.                                                                             "Hey Sunny, what's up?" Seohyun said and her voice squeaked.                                                   "Let's go, I need to talk to you about something." Sunny answered and she jerked her head toward the hall. For a moment Seohyun just stared back at her and she shook her head.        "Sunny is my bestfriend but she can be so rude sometimes especially to my boyfriend Choi Siwon. And sometimes she's also rude to my friend Jung Soo-yeon or just call her Jessica that she hates for some reason. And now Sunny's rude to Hyoyeon by ignoring Hyoyeon." Seohyun said to herself.                                                                                                                                 "I'm sort of in a conversation with Hyoyeon" Seohyun said to Sunny.                                                "Oh It's Hyoyeon I didn't notice her, Hi Hyoyeon," Sunny said with an O.A. voice and fake smile. Hyoyeon folded her arms across her chest and she tightened her lips. She didn't bother to answer.                                                                                                                                                 "So can we go now? I need to talk to you right away," Sunny demanded, turning her eyes to Seohyun.                                                                                                                                                       "We're supposed to be having a meeting here." Hyoyeon interuppted and sighed heavily.        "So? Have your little meeting later." Sunny said to Hyoyeon. Hyoyeon turned back to Seohyun.                                                                                                                                                       "Is that what you want to do, Seohyun? Hyoyeon said to Seohyun. Seohyun bit her lips.    "To be honest, I didn't really want to stay with Hyoyeon or have lunch with Sunny. Both of them were in the lousy moods, and so was I now, too. But I knew that if I walked out, Hyoyeon would lose all respect for me. And we did have a lot of work to do. Planning the carnival was a  big job, and I wanted to do it right. Whatever Sunny's crisis was, it could wait until  Hyoyeon an I were finished." Seohyun thought to herself.                                                 "I need to stay, can we meet in the cafeteria in fifteen minutes?" Seohyun told Sunny. Sunny's jaw dropped. Then her eyes narrowed, and she squeezed her lips together.               "Sure, no problem, Fit me in whenever it's convenient for you." Sunny said coldly and walked down the hall. Seohyun's chest tightened. She felt a little queasy.                                   "Why was everyone mad at me?,what had I done?" Seohyun questioned herself.                     "Sunny!" Seohyun called but Sunny was gone. Seohyun sighed and turned back to Hyoyeon, struggling to concentrate on the task at hand. Seohyun was determined not to let this lunch period turn into a complete disaster.                                                                                 "So, um, anyway, what were we talking about? Seohyun asked to Hyoyeon. Hyoyeon tapped her pen on her list.                                                                                                                         "Decorations," Hyoyeon replied.                                                                                                             "Um ...right, don't you think sixties decorations would be cool?" Seohyun asked.                             "Not really, I think the decorations should have some connection to our school" Hyoyeon replied. Seohyun tried to focus on what Hyoyeon was saying, but Sunny's words remained stuck in her head: Fit me in whenever it's convenient. Seohyun knew what Sunny was trying to do she was trying to make Seohyun guilty. And unfortunately, as usual, it worked. "Seohyun, are you listening to me?" Hyoyeon said with a angry voice.                                         "Sure..." Seohyun lied.                                                                                                                               "So what do you think about my idea?" Hyoyeon asked. Seohyun had no idea what Hyoyeonhad been talking about. Seohyun grinned apologetically.                                                       "I'm sorry, But do you mind if we finish later? I think I'd better see what's wrong with Sunny." Seohyun said hurrily. Hyoyeon closed her notebook.                                                            "Whatever," Hyoyeon said with a groan. "It's your carnival" Hyoyeon added.
