The Devil in You

Jeom Sae Jin's mother died in a car accident the first day Sae Jin was to be home. 

Sae Jin doesn't remember that day, of course she wouldn't, she was an infant.  She had never known life with a mother, and her single dad struggled to take care of her. She grew up in the poor neighborhoods, scrapping for herself, and by the age of eight, learned how to barter for food.  When she was twelve, her grandmother and grandfather on her mother's side passed away, leaving Sae Jin a lump some of money that got her and her father on their feet. 

Her father found a job, in good money, working as the CEO of a major corporation, which is how they got back to Korea. 

Growing up in Germany with a single father was a tough life. While her father was trying to teach her Korean, she had to learn German in order to get by. Her father didn't speak any German, but he explained that her mother did.  Sae Jin was fluently self-taught in German, but it didn't land her a job. 

By the time she was fifteen, they were well off. The money they had received from Sae Jin's grandparents on her mother's side proved to be sufficient. However, Jeom Jae was ready to get remarried, and even though Sae Jin was ready to be on her own now, he wanted her to experience what it would be like to have a mother figure in her life. 

Sae Jin, now eighteen, constantly fights with her father about his girlfriends. Ever since the word got out about him earning the amount of money that he did, the miracle that had come upon their family, the women Sae Jin's father was interested in weren't even slightly interested in him, but his money. 

"Daddy," Sae Jin growled after she had closed the front door. Her arms crossed over her chest as she glared at her father. "You know as well as I do that she's no good. Not only does she not even spare a passing glance at you as a person, instead of a piece of meat with money, she's my age, and I don't exactly think it's practical for you to date someone who's as young as your own daugther," Sae Jin lectured. 

Her father sighed. He knew she was right, she always was. Sae Jin was intelligent, despite her lack of schooling as a child. "I know, but I almost seem desperate, don't I?" he asked, cracking a nervous smile. Sae Jin sighed and continued to watch him. She shook her head in agitation. 

"Daddy, I think it's time you let me take control of this. I don't want to be one to tell you what to do, because that's not my job, but this dating women my age is not okay. They don't appreciate me, and I don't appreciate them. Just let me at least find a woman your age?" she asked. Sae Jin was almost desperate to find her father another mate, but seriously? Was she going to let some little high school girl into her house to be in involved with her father? Hell no. 

"Alright, fine. I have one other girl I was looking at. She's a little younger than me, but not as young as you are. If she doesn't work out, I promise you can take control of this. Deal?" her father reasoned.

Sae Jin hesitated for a moment. "Deal," she finally replied, uncrossing her arms before finding herself in her father's comforting embrace.
