~Sneak peak of My y Next Door Neighbor~

The sun blasted hot heat waves and everyone felt it.  Her room was so warm, and it was only the morning. Her sweat trickled down her pink face as she concentrated hard on her new drawing. Her lips were slightly red from biting and her eyes irritated. She was frustrated with how her drawing came out. The eyes were too big or the face was too sharp, everything just ticked her off. She didn’t give up; however, the room slowly became a trash can. She flicked out all the appalling drawings onto the floor and kept at it until she fixed the perfect drawing.

As much as she wanted to keep at it, the heat was too much, and the young girl needed water. She rose from her pink desk and stretched her aching body. It wasn’t healthy for one to be sitting for so long, and she knew it, because her back was killing her. She yawned and rubbed her eyes before glaring at the unfinished picture. Oh, how much she wanted to tear and stomp on it. The young girl took a deep breath to calm herself and proceeded into the kitchen.

When she reached the kitchen, her eyes widened at the sight. She curled her hands into fists and her blood boiled. Her mom, with the biggest smile, sat on the island table, twirling her hair and speaking in the most annoying manner she had ever heard.

“Oh, so are you guys almost here? I’m dying here! It’s so boring.” Her mother’s lips form a tiny pout. Sooji smirked at her mother and questioned her outfit. Her mother, clad in a short sundress and her hair curled, somewhat angered the young girl.

She took a deep breath in and, instead of getting enraged at her mother, continued into the kitchen. She grabbed the handle and opened the refrigerator, scanning it up and down for any water. Her eyes landed at the glass pitcher and she reached for it.

Her busy mother finally took notice of her and turned around.

“Oh, hey hun!” her voice awfully too cute, “How was your sleep?” Her lips perked and her voice soft. Sooji only glared at her mother before forcing a fake smile.

“I’m fine mother. I had the best sleep ever. It was sticky, wet, sweating, and filthy! Oh how wonderful!” She imitated her mom’s high pitched voice and cute gestures. Her mother only frowned, but smiled again. “Yes that’s Sooji. She has grown quite well!”  

Sooji didn’t care if her mother gossiped about her. She went back to her business, smacking her lips together, content that she got her mother slightly annoyed. She poured the water into a glass cup and drowned herself in thoughts.  The water was very refreshing and cooled her down. Now, she could properly focus on her drawing.

“Ah I can’t wait!” Her mother squealed. Sooji snapped from her thoughts and turned to her smiling like crazy mother. She was stunned by her mother’s behavior, but still managed to keep her cool. Sooji’s mother stared at the phone before setting her brown eyes on the young girl. In just a second, her mother dashed forward and grabbed Sooji by the shoulders.

“W-wait, what are you doing to me?” Sooji, dumbfounded, stammers, her breathing short. Her mother, with duck lips and intense eyes, glares right into Sooji’s soul.

Sooji, a bit taken back, her head away from her mother’s. It looked like she wanted to strangle Sooji.

Her mother’s lips slowly open and Sooji tenses, slightly scared of what was going to come out of her mom’s mouth. But, it all disappears when her mother forms a smile. She releases Sooji and clasps her hands.

“We’re going to have guests soon and I need your help with breakfast.” Her mom says, her voice soft and soothing to the ear. Sooji, shocked at her words, shudders and slightly loses her balance. As if was sealed with tape, Sooji doesn’t reply and feels something weird in her stomach. Her mother was able to catch her off guard, and somewhere in the world, applauds for her mother for being the first.

Sooji gulps. “W-why?” She dares to question. However, her mother already brought out all the ingredients to the table and started chopping the vegetables. Sooji’s mom concentrates hard on cooking and keeps chopping until she faces the frozen young girl. She tilts her head and glares at Sooji. “Stop standing there! We’re going to make kimchi stew!” She yells, her voice scratchy and coarse.

Sooji nods and shakes her head, trying to understand the situation. It wasn’t like she never cooked before…but it was odd for her mother to be so commanding and…annoying so early in the morning. However, Sooji had no choice and started chopping the vegetables before her mom turned into hulk, which was not a very pretty sight to behold.

But something bothered Sooji. Who could be the guests to make her mom so excited and jumpy? Was it an ex-boyfriend….or a college friend? Or maybe….

“Who are the guests?” Sooji spat, almost unaware that she asked.

“Oh, hun, do you remember the Lu’s? Remember when they had to leave because of business?” Her mom immediately replies.

Sooji stops everything and turns her attention to her mom. “The L-Lu’s?” Sooji’s eyes fill with confusion.

“Yep, the Lu’s…like Luhan!” Her mom smiles a pretty smile.   

Sooji unconsciously bites her lips. A big shock runs through her body and she suddenly feels cold. Her hands trembles and her knee feels weak.

“Oh, what happened hun?” Her mother notices Sooji’s change in behavior and asks. Sooji fights off the urge to scream and instead, forms a loving smile to her mom.

“Nothing mom….and yes, I remember Luhan.” She emphasizes Luhan’s name harshly. Her mom smiles back and they both get back to work.

Sooji’s mind immediately fills with memories of Luhan. Oh, how that Chinese boy did so wrong to her. She slices her vegetables harder. He didn’t know anything and so, acting the way he did, she hated it so much. She slices her vegetable so hard. This had to be a dream…she only needed to wake up from it. She grinds the knife into the wood and stares at the ceiling.

“That bastard has come to haunt me, huh.” She murmurs, her voice subtly menacing.
