Melody of Death

Scarecrow

I heard the rhythmic pitter-patter of the rain against the pavement, the roar of thunder from above, but I can’t feel the rain against my body. I can’t feel anything at all.

I slowly opened my eyes, only to see concrete before me. My face was pressed on the bits of broken glass that were scattered all over and I caught a glimpse of my left hand bleeding, covering the glass with blood.

When the sensations of my body returned, I wish it didn’t, because I was racked with unbearable agony. Every movement of my body sent rivers of pain. Even breathing was a drag, and I wheezed as I gasped for air.

I heard someone approach me and I was filled with hope. Whoever it could be might help me from my piteous situation. Every hope I thought I have flew away when I heard that person hum a melody.

That tune was familiar and it always cheered me right up. Only this time, it was hummed eerily. It sent chills down to my spine.

Like the atmosphere a scarecrow gives.

Still, silent, but you still get an unnerving feel whenever you see one.

That person knelt before me, and rummaged my pockets. My wallet was taken and I heard a satisfied sigh. I instantly knew what that person was looking for.

The picture.

“Mianhe, Jiyong-oppa,” The person was apologizing, but the way it was said frightened me out of my wits. The voice spooked me out. “But you should have just stayed out of the way. You got too much close, and now it cost you your life.”

As if taunting me, the owner of the creepy voice bent lower and I can’t believe what I saw.

It was the face of someone I knew. After that, I started to think that the eyes were a lot more terrifying, simply because it spoke of something else—murder.

How could you do this?

I was aware I didn’t say that out loud but I knew my eyes have said it all. Before I could even speak, fresh blood gushed out of my mouth. I coughed it all out, hoping to relieve myself, but blood only kept on coming. My eyes were losing its focus, making everything but blurry. But I could still see that the ring on my left hand was also being taken. I tried to ball my hand into a fist, but I was feeling too weak and the person took the ring away from me with ease.

“Believe me, oppa. Everything will be better if you die. So you have to go,” her voice drawled. “Bye bye, now.”

The voice was cold and unforgiving and it scared me more than death.

With her lust for blood satiated, she smiled, stood up and walked away, leaving me on the pavement, choking on my own blood. I gathered every bit of strength I have left, raised my hand, and weakly called out, hoping she would hear.

A name.

“Dara…”

She stopped walking and turned to me. Her face screamed of the innocence, but everything about her looked new to me. It never crossed to my mind that she would have a side like that. After flashing me a crazy smile, she went back to her car, drove away and left me to die.

I started to succumb to the call of death, but fear never left. It grew and consumed my heart like plague. In my last moments, it made me wonder if any of these would have happened if I hadn’t met the two girls that changed and ended my life.

Lee Chaerin…

…and…

…Dara Park.

I read the comments first so I. Already know who killed Jiyong but the way you wrote it made me think otherwise.

Was Chaerin that obsessed to Dara that he killed Jiyong? Cause like what she said, he somehow stole Dara from her. Oh my.. I'm still confused.

Whoa, the way you kept us guessing who was the killer was really great. I never expected that it was Chaerin, I thought Dara was the one who killed Jiyong.

"He got in the way. He got too close and it cost him his life."

Oh! Okay. So Chae Rin was the one who killed Ji Yong then herself and Dara. :D at first, I thought it was Dee. Anyway, why did Chae Rin kill Ji Yong? I was trying to that figure out but I can't think of the reason why. Does she loves him too like what Dara assumed when they first met and she was jealous of Dara? Or I think (I'm betting more on this) she wants her friend Dara all for herself. That's the only thing that makes sense if I will consider the killing sequence. Because if it was the first one, then she should've killed Dara. But she didn't. Instead she killed Ji Yong first then herself and Dara. They were together till the end. kekeke. XD I'm not sure.

And why does Ji Yong regret meeting Dara? I understand why he felt that why towards Chae Rin though. I mean, she killed him. So it's natural to feel that way.

I think I need to read it again. XD anyway, it was a good story. Pardon my long comment. :D I'm really into reading it that I found myself wanting to understand everything. Nice story! :D
