Silence before the Storm

A child?

“If you’re lying, I’ll slit your throat-,”

“Why would I lie?!” The girl’s cry interrupted JaeJoong. She closed her eyes tightly trying to calm herself before he send her straight to the hospital for raising her voice at him.

She didn’t understand how it was possible either, they had used protection. This wasn’t supposed to happen.

JaeJoong stared at the woman’s protruding abdomen.

Was that thing in there really his?

For the first time in his life he was clueless. “We only did it once...”

“That’s all it takes.”

JaeJoong still couldn’t believe it.

After a moment of silence, JaeJoong growled in confusion.

He didn’t understand.

What was this useless excuse for a woman saying?!

It had been nothing more than a moment of pure ual satisfaction and she was telling him she was pregnant? With his child?

He didn’t even remember when he had slept with her!

The female fidgeted with the cup between her slightly trembling hands. “I-I don’t want to keep it.”

JaeJoong said nothing.

He didn’t know what to say.

“It’s already too late for an abortion...” she shared the bit of information she had learned earlier that day.

After the uncountable pregnancy tests she had rushed over to the hospital to confirm and to her disappointment she was pregnant.

“I gave it some thought and...”  she struggled with her words, “and I think I’m too young to have a kid. I can’t support it and I still have school to finish. So...I’m giving it up for adoption...”

Her last sentence tugged at JaeJoong’s heart. She wanted to give it up for adoption? She wanted to give his child to strangers?

“I really don’t want to keep it,” she finally gained the confidence to say it without a shaky voice. “It’ll slow me down...it’ll ruin my life.”

JaeJoong couldn’t believe his ears. He didn’t deny he was selfish, but he didn’t think it was possible for anyone else to be more selfish than he was. She wanted to rob a child from his life while she’s the one who did wrong?

“I won’t allow you to give it up for adoption.” JaeJoong’s husky voice spoke an indirect threat.

She might not be able to support it, but she didn’t even ask for his help. It disgusted him how she didn’t even consider to raise the child together with him.

He had enough money, she should know. The way she had spent his money indicated she had only clung to him for the material gain. Now that she really needed to prove that it had been more than just greed she wanted to turn and run for it?

“I said I-,”

A disgusted glare from him shut her up in an instant, “I will raise it.”
