Morning Call

Such a Beautiful Lie 2 - Starting Again

I have a few chapters so I'm just gonna boom you with those :P xD

Enjoy!

~~

  • Jiyoon ah! You have to hurry! The bus will leave in thirty minutes! Jang Ri In stood outside the bathroom door waiting for her fifteen year old daughter. And you still haven’t eaten your breakfast.
  • I’m on my way! Stop stressing me, !
  • Don’t use such words and that tone to your mother. Junsu passed by in the small apartment and continued to the kitchen.

The Kim Jang family still lived in the four room apartment in Seoul. There were many schools in their neighborhood but all were way too expensive for the family to pay. That was why Jonghyun and Jiyoon had to be transported by bus to a middle school in the outskirts of Seoul. The school had a bad reputation what came to both teachers and students, but Junsu and Ri In couldn’t pay for anything else. Both of their children had offered to take part-time jobs, but Junsu and Ri In refused to have their children working. No, they needed to focus on their studies and social lives.

  • Come on now, sweetie?

Jiyoon slammed the door open and glared at her mother. She stomped her way to the kitchen and sat down next to her twin oppa. They didn’t greet each other with words and didn’t even look at the other, but still they connected. Jiyoon leaned her head on Jonghyun’s shoulder and sighed. She wasn’t hungry, she rarely was but her family insisted on her having breakfast.

  • Here, we can share my bowl. Jonghyun smiled and pushed the bowl more to the middle. He gave his sister the spoon and Jiyoon reluctantly took it.

Normally, Junsu would have told Jiyoon and Jonghyun that they had to use separate bowls but this morning was more stressful than usual. The restaurant where Junsu had been doing his morning shifts had closed down because the owner had basically just lost interest and moved to America. Junsu had gotten a call this morning. One part-time job less in the Kim Jang family was not good for the economics. They needed every won they could get. Junsu sat quietly by the kitchen table and chewed a little on his thumb. Ri In shortly came in and stopped when she saw her twins sharing the same bowl again. But she didn’t argue. Jiyoon and she already had a bad start on the day with each other; she didn’t want to make it worse.

  • Have you packed your school bags? Ri In asked and went over to the stove. She swiftly packed two small lunch boxes with rice and some vegetables. They got one fish piece each.
  • Oh crap… Jonghyun abruptly stood up and ran to his and Jiyoon’s room. Jiyoon moments later followed.
  • Oppa?
  • Mm?
  • Do you think we should get extra jobs too? Jiyoon spoke softly and barely audible.

Jonghyun stopped his packing for a moment. He sighed and continued while answering:

  • I do. But mom and dad say we can’t.
  • We don’t have to tell them?
  • Oh yeah. So when we come home with our payments what are we going to say? Hey look what we found in the streets! Come on, Yoonie yah.
  • I know but… they really seem to struggle now. Winter’s coming up and that means we need to get new winter clothes, the heating bill will get more and everything will be so much more expensive!
  • Look, Jiyoon ah. I want to help as much as you do, but there is nothing we can do. We are underage, which means we can’t sign up for a job without our parents’ approval.
  • Really? How do you know? Jiyoon went closer and started packing her own bag as well.
  • A few weeks ago, I…

Jonghyun didn’t want to continue. He hated going behind his sister’s back.

  • You what?
  • I went out to get a job. But that was the answer I got. If mom and dad really don’t want us to work, we can’t work. If we don’t go to the black labor market… but that’s not even to think about! He could sense Jiyoon starting planning things in her head.
  • Why not? It doesn’t matter if we don’t get pension on what we are doing now?
  • That’s not the point. Jonghyun was done packing and threw his backpack over his shoulder and went for the door.
  • Oppa? Oppa! Jiyoon quickly finished packing and ran after.

Their discussion continued out on the street. Jonghyun still refused to really answer though. He cursed himself for even mentioning the black market. Now Jiyoon would run straight to the back streets after school and get some scary job by a scary man and he would see his baby sister and best friend lie on the hospital bed beaten nearly to death and !

  • Oppa, answer me! They were standing by the bus stop now and Jonghyun stubbornly looked at the front. Oppa! She grabbed his arm and made him look at her.
  • It’s just… when it comes to the black market it is easy to get a job, very easy! But, when you get a job there, you will never know when or even if you will ever get out. Those dudes don’t really sign contracts where they promise to keep their staff safe. They simply work for money and don’t care how many people they need to sacrifice to get the amount of money they want. Araji?

Jiyoon flinched by Jonghyun’s seriousness. He rarely got serious talking to his baby sister. He would nicely tell her not to do it, but not this time.

  • Araji?! Jonghyun waited for an answer.
  • Araso… Jiyoon looked down on her face and pouted. Jonghyun almost scared her.
  • Oh no, don’t gimmie that face! He pulled her close and hugged her. He hushed in her ear and rocked her smoothly.

Jiyoon eventually pulled back to dry off her tears. She didn’t really like crying to be honest.

  • Araso, oppa. If you say it’s dangerous… she whispered, knowing he would hear.
  • That’s my girl! He swiftly kissed her fore head and exclaimed: Ah, the bus’s here!

Jang Ri In stood by the sink and sighed. Her husband had lost one of his three jobs. They were one month payment short and they barely made it with the six ones they usually had.

  • It’ll be fine, baby. Junsu came up from behind and hugged his fiancé. He kissed her exposed neck and nibbled on her earlobe. Ri In literally melted to Junsu’s strong chest.

She was exhausted after fifteen years of constant working. She loved her children and she loved the man that she tended to call husband, and she enjoyed working. But it was all much. For fifteen years she had only had the holidays off. To take a day off was not to even dream about. Junsu continued to worship her exposed neck, knowing that she somehow needed the relaxation.

  • When does your shift start?
  • At eleven.
  • It’s only eight o’clock, how about we get some more sleep?
  • But your, ah, job?
  • I’ll take care of that later.

Ri In let Junsu lead her back to their bedroom.

  • Jiyoon ah! You have to hurry! The bus will leave in thirty minutes! Jang Ri In stood outside the bathroom door waiting for her fifteen year old daughter. And you still haven’t eaten your breakfast.
