Let's get some chicken instead

Breaking Traditions

Chapter 1

A loud rythmic chime of her phone interrupted her concentration in choosing what snack in the vending machine should she devour this time.

From: Mom

To: Jisoo

" Hey sweetie. What time will you be getting off from the hospital? The party just started. Don't forget to wear something nice today."

Jisoo sighs and replies to her mom.

From: Jisoo

To: Mom

" Hi mom. I don't know what time I'm going to be there. Maybe 9 or 10. I'll text you as soon as I'm done here. "

As she presses the send button, someone crept her from behind.

Hey Jisoo! What's taking you so long? We have to prep for the next surgery.

Lisa looks at her friend's dejected face. Who are you texting? Let me guess - it's your mom?

Jisoo nods at her friend's question and sighs. Yeah, my mom is insisting me to come tonight.

Lisa smirks at her friend and teasingly said. Come on. It can't be that bad. Who's the lucky prospect this time?

Ugh. I don't know. Just thinking about it, makes me want to puke. It's the same people, food and music every Friday. THEY DON'T EVEN SERVE CHICKEN FOR PETE SAKE! CHICKEN!!

Lisa laughs and pats at her friend's back. Well, you'll never know. Tonight might be different this time.

Jisoo sighs and looks at her watch. Don't get your hopes up. Come on. I'm not hungry anymore.

Jisoo finally arrives at her grandparent's mansion. As she enters the gate, her mom is waiting at the front.

You're late again.

HI mom. I'm doing great. Thank you for asking,

All the crab is gone.

Oh well, let's just get some chicken instead. Jisoo quickly turns around to escape at her mom's clutches. But luck is not in her way tonight, Dara catches her arm faster than you could say chicken.

Cheeky girl.

Dara ignores her sarcasm and scutinizes her apperance.

You're so thin. Have you been eating properly lately? You'll catch your death. I told you to wear some nice.  Are men's clothes trending in today's fashion?

Jisoo blocks her complaints and defeatedly let's her mom fix her clothes.

Are men's clothes trending in today's fashion.

Yup. Didn't your hear? Comfort is the new fashion these days.

People are going to think....

Dara's words were cut off as a group of children started to run at their direction.

As they enter the garden, someone is shouting at her name and is waving their arms enthusiastically

Jisoo!

Jisoo smiles widely at her grandma's voice and quickly hugs her and his grandpa tightly.

 Jisoo, I love your outfit!

Her mom suddenly chimes in and questions her mom's taste. Don't you think it's too boyish?

Nonsense. I had a pair just like those during Revolution. Sturdy and practical. Just the thing for war.

Jisoo smirks and looks at her mom. You high heels on the other hand....

Her grandparents nod at her comment and look at her daughter's shoes. That's right Dara. Those heels will kill you. It'll be a miracle if you don't trip and die.

Dara sighs as the trio gangs up on her. Ugh. I'm going to get some cupcake.

Jisoo continues to converse with her grandparents about her work this week.  As she was telling her jokes, someone taps her at her shoulder.

Excuse me Mr. and Mrs Kim. How about it, Jisoo? Do me the honor?

Jisoo smiles at the person who interrupted her joke and accepts at his request. Doyoung guides her at the dance floor.

Good to see you, Doyoung. How much did your mom bribe you to come here?

Doyoung laughs at her comment. Instead of answering her, he asked teasingly. So who's the unlucky fellow this week?

Ugh. I'm not sure but my guess is shorty, next to the punch bowl.

How can you tell?

Call it a hunch. I think he's some sort of stock whiz.

Does he have stock in Rogaine.

Doyoung laughs at her retort. I'm glad you weren't this snarky before our setup.

Jisoo looks at his companion and smirks.

Doyoung scoffs at her expression. What? Come on, out with it. My mother gave me money to dance with you.

Jisoo laughs at his expression. Yeah. Well, you dance like a girl.

Their music suddenly was put to a stop when his grandpa went to the front and gives a speech.

Thank you all for coming again this Friday's dinner party. Let me say a few words..

Jisoo blocks at his grandpa's usual thank you speech and observes the garden. She heard a noise from the fountain behind and notices a girl she's never seen before.  Her heart suddenly beated rapidly as her eyes catched with the girl's cat eyes. She sheepishly grinned at the girl's smirk and quickly turned her head to the front with pink cheeks.

Lastly, I just want to give thanks to my Yoon-Hee, who has suffered alongside me. His grandpa looks at his wife fondly and ends his speech.

The guests applaused at his speech and cotinues to dance once again.

Maybe Lisa was right. Tonight might be different this time.
