Session 0: The pre-beginning

TWICE plays Dungeons and Dragons

It was a quiet afternoon.

Most of the members were either out of the apartment or were passed out on their beds. The only ones that weren’t were the four girls that were tentatively trying out a new game. They’ve seen it online, first with a stream that lasted 4 hours with every second mesmerizing their gaze. Soon after, it began with the podcasts, ones where they can listen to while they were waiting for their schedules.

And now it’s time to take a taste of the drug.

They’ve done the research. They knew the risks. They were ready for this.

“Alright, I got the books,” Mina said excitedly as she sat with the other three, placing a bag of big hardcover books on the table of their living room. “Thankfully there were a translated versions in the shop, so I won’t have to keep translating for you guys.

“Wow, you even got the sheets!” Chaeyoung quickly grabbed one of the booklets and rifled through each identical page. “Wait, did you get-”

“Yes, I got them Chaeng.” Mina pulled out small, clear, plastic rectangular cases, each with a black cap at their bottom and placed them on table. Each container contains 7 dice of different shapes, each with different numbers etched into their faces, and each container had a different color set to each other. “How could I forget? Their the first thing I saw in the shop.”

“What? Did you almost forget the books?” Jeongyeon joked as she grabbed one with bone white dice and black numbering. “At least you got some pretty sets.”

“They’re cheap,” Tzuyu said as she looked at the price tag stickered onto the case she grabbed with a marbled red surface and gold numbers. “At least we got the right kinds.”

“Lost Mines of Phandelver…”

The members perk their ears as they heard Jeongyeon mumble the name of their campaign. Excitement bubbled in their gut, small grins slowly forming on their faces. They then eye a book in the center, with the image of a heroine about to fire a light blue spell into the chest of a dark skinned giant she was facing. Each of them quickly jumped to grab, “The Player’s Handbook.”

Tzuyu beat them to it.

“Hah!” The youngest stuck a tongue out. “I get to make my character first!”

“Just don’t forget that we’re going to start at level 1,” Jeongyeon reminded them as she poured over the campaign book. “And you guys could use some of the premade characters from this book.”

The younger members went silent for a moment.

“NAH!”

Chaeyoung and Mina quickly moved over to Tzuyu’s side as she read flipped over to the page she needed. They all practically drooled at the illustration that greeted them before they looked to the title of the section.

“Rogue,” Mina muttered. “That’s so edgy of you.”

“Shush!” Chaeyoung covered Mina’s mouth over Tzuyu’s back. “I want. I want to be like Vax.”

“Fine then!” The Japanese member swiped the book from Tzuyu’s hands and quickly ran as she looked at the table of contents. “Then I’ll be cleric!”

“W-well fine then!” The little tiger yelled back as she took the book from Mina’s hands. “Have fun healing us then!”

Tzuyu gently took the book from Chaeyoung’s hand raised above her head as she opened to find another class in the table of contents. She flipped the page to the class she wanted, paying no mind to the smallest member as she tried to jump and grab the book. Mina could only laugh.

“I’ll be the paladin then.” Tzuyu lowered the book and sat as she flipped over to the races section. “A half-elf paladin.”

“Lame,” Chaeyoung spat playfully with her tongue out as she took the book back. “He doesn’t even look that cool.”

“You do realize that you get to make your own characters, right?” Jeongyeon finally broke her silence. “Like, even make them look super pretty.”

Chaeyoung fumed as she slapped the pages over the races.

“Then I’ll make a tiefling rogue!” She yelled as she smacked her hand over the picture of the race. “And I’ll make her look like Mina!”

Mina’s jaw dropped, taken aback with her arms to chest. A small, “Aww,” escaped her lips. Tzuyu only nodded as she handed the book over to the awestruck unnie. Mina grabbed it and gently looked over the section, reading over each race carefully for their stats and abilities.

“Then I’ll be a human cleric,” Mina settled. “I’m gonna take the variant with the extra feat at level 1. It feels nice.”

“Good, now let’s get with your backstories,” Jeongyeon said as she placed her book down. “Make sure you can tie it in easily with the campaign set in this fantasy campaign.”

“Wait, unnie, you’re not making a character?” Tzuyu asked.

“Nope,” the older member smirked as she pulled her hood over her head. “I’m gonna be the Dungeon Master!”
