NINETEEN: Battle against the King
PurebloodWatching the sunset as we welcome another dark cold night, Bomi and I decided to take a short stroll around our territory. “Who would’ve thought.” She said as we reach the same tower, the same balcony where we stayed to watch the friendly race between my siblings.
“That we’re back here but in a whole different situation?” I asked realizing how much things have changed.
“Yea.” Bomi nod in agreement as she admires the purple sky and continues, “It’s funny when I try to remember how eager I am back then to live an eternal life just to be with you.” The last time we’re here, she’s.. human and I planned to keep it that way. More so, I wonder if she tried to see her true parents and siblings after but I’m too scared to ask knowing that it isn’t even a century after her disappearance in the human world. I’m afraid that she isn’t ready yet to talk about this. “What’s wrong?” Bomi asked.
“Hmm?”
“I can tell if something is bothering you, Rongie.” Bomi claimed as she turns to face me. Now, I gaze into this beautiful silhouette of her. “Tell me, what’s wrong?”
“Nothing really.”
“Tell me.” Bomi forcing an answer from me as she pressed the tip of her nose to mine, giving me the so-called Eskimo kiss.
“Don’t you miss your human life? Your real family?” I asked.
Bomi sighed deeply, “I do miss them, I do treasure the memories I have of my parents, my brother and sister greatly. But what’s important to me now is this.” she then held my hand gently as she speaks, “You’re my family now, Rong. You and everyone here.”
Just when we’re about to share a kiss, the presence of another vampire were felt by the two of us. And like couples caught in public, we’re quick to pull away from each other.
“Ahem.” Bomi coughed and I look at her only to see a whole new different person, someone holding a firm stance. Cute. I will never get tired of seeing this shift in her personality, it’s a newfound drug of mine.
“What’s up?” I asked Soeun who’s face is as red as a tomato. Is she seriously blushing at this sight?
“You’re being called by Mr. Park. He said, ‘it’s time’.” She answered as she mimics my father’s voice that made Bomi smile at Soeun’s imitation. Which.. I think isn’t healthy for the fangirl’s heart at the moment.
“He sure sounds like that.” Bomi joined the conversation, “So it’s just her?”
“I should’ve said ‘chobom’ right? Chobom, you’re being called.” Soeun teased. “Don’t worry, you’re secret is safe with me.”
“Bomi and I were never a secret, Soeun-ah.”
“Ah whatever, please do continue what you’re doing. I fully support you guys, you have no idea how happy I am to see the both of you together together. But don’t take too long making out, it’s getting dark. And like what Mr. Park said, ‘it’s time’.” A non-stop blabbering from Soeun. She’s enjoying this too much, too much that I can confidently say that she’s living her life right now.
Soeun took off leaving Bomi and I under her charms, “She really is a bubbly one, isn’t she?” Bomi described as she continues, “When I was talking to her and Jiyoon, she keeps saying that she’s a fan of the both of us. That I should not worry of her presence in your life.”
“Trust me, she admires you more than me.” I said then soon pull her back to me, closer, as I wrap my arms under her crimson coat. Bury myself in her protection, “About what you said a while ago.. just know that you’re more than a family to me, Bbom-ah. You’re my other half, you’re my King.”
Not wasting any idle time, Bomi and I went to meet my father. He’s clearly waiting for us in front of the house along with my mother and everyone else.
“Dad?”
“I believe that the both of you have had enough rest. Shall we start?” He asked and I know what’s first in line with this preparation of mine. Test of Strength.
“Alright. Who would be the unlucky one to face me?” I confidently asked knowing that in the past few years, I’ve been doing nothing but to battle. I’ve been taking commissions to clear out ghouls and I think that’s more than enough for me to keep my skills intact.
“That’s the spirit, my darling!” my mother cheered, and beside her is my sister, Jiyoon, whose face is masked with this annoying smirk.
“I’m not fighting Jiyoonie, right? Because let’s face it, I can do more than that.”
“Oh ho. That stings a bit, unnie! But yea it’s definitely not me,” Jiyoon said as she shakes her head and pursed her lips to Bomi who’s standing next to me, “It’ll be her.”
Now that’s something that I didn’t expect, I was actually thinking that I’d be facing my father but I guess not. My confidence will not falter with the unfamiliarity I have of Bomi’s fighting style because if it breaks, it’s over.
“Don’t go easy on her, Bomi. She’s our greatest warrior.” My father said.
“Indeed! She’s called the Alpha by her friends because of her superb fighting skills.” My mom added to my father’s compliment. With that trust they have in my abilities, I should really give them a wonderful show.
