Chapter 18
The RunawaysKai left the hastily written note on the dining table.
It read: ‘Decided to leave early. Sorry we didn’t get to say bye in person. Thanks for all the help, we owe you one. Leaving the Wrangler in the garage, will pick it up in a few weeks. Thanks again, Sehun.’
Hayan had been very displeased when Baekhyun had brought up the idea of leaving the Wrangler at Sehun’s and traveling to the safe house by bus instead.
But Baekhyun had insisted that the Blue Dragons would be on the look out for a black Wrangler and it was too risky to be driving around in it. Besides, it would be much more inconspicuous for them to travel by an overnight bus, and it would also help them to blend in with the crowd.
Though he had brought up valid points, Hayan had still been disappointed. Baekhyun couldn’t completely blame her. After all, the Wrangler had cost her nearly a quarter of the money she had withdrawn at the start of the trip. Just abandoning it must have bothered her a lot.
The four walked towards the closest bus station, which was about three blocks away. They were all wearing dark clothes with hoods and Hayan had hers up to hide her unique silver-blue hair. Each of them had a duffle bag hiked up their shoulders. Baekhyun and Krystal were carrying bags with their clothes, Hayan had the duffle with the money and Kai had a duffle filled with random articles of clothing he’d picked from the pile Sehun had offered him. They were all on high alert in case they bumped into more Blue Dragons.
But they managed to make it to the bus station without any incidents. Krystal and Hayan waited in line to buy the tickets while Baekhyun and Kai made quick rounds of the small bus shelter to make sure there weren’t any suspicious men waiting to ambush them.
Their bus was set to depart in two hours.
While the four waited for boarding to start, Krystal tugged on Kai’s hoodie sleeve. When the blonde gave her a curious look, she pointed at the vending machine in the corner of the room and Kai grinned at her.
The two left to get snacks and Baekhyun shifted uncomfortably when he realized it was just him and Hayan.
The silver haired woman turned to him abruptly. “Give me your phone.”
Baekhyun grimaced at her demanding tone. “Why?”
“I need to talk to Tao,” she replied.
Baekhyun felt more hesitant to hand her his phone now. “Are you going to tell Tao where we’re headed?” he asked.
Hayan’s brows furrowed in confusion. “What? Why does that matter anyway?”
Baekhyun bit his lip. ‘Because maybe we can’t trust him,’ he wanted to say. But he wasn’t sure what Tao and Hayan’s relationship was.
“The fewer people that know our plan, the safer it is,” he said instead.
Hayan mulled over his words for a couple moments before nodding in agreement.
Baekhyun pulled out his phone but before he could place it in her awaiting palm, Baekhyun gave her a stern look. “I want to listen in on the conversation too.”
Hayan looked around quickly. The bus shelter wasn't crowded but there were definitely enough people around for her to not feel comfortable with making the call on speaker.
Baekhyun noticed her hesitance and pulled out
