Look Closely (the beautiful may be small)

Park Jimin, to say the least, was ethereal. The epitome of perfection. He was a probably a descendant of Helen of Troy or a scion of Aphrodite. Namjoon couldn’t wrap his head around Jimin’s whole persona. If it was an otome game, Jimin’s stats would probably have the weird percentages that doesn’t quite equate to a hundred but beyond it.

So, when he sees Park Jimin in the library, hunched over his laptop and typing studiously. Namjoon couldn’t help but think that this man was definitely a person sculpted by a god and if he is, then even Pygmalion’s Galatea has nothing on him.

To Namjoon, Jimin is someone who’s equal parts beauty and intellect—the scene unfolding before him is only a proof of this.

He doesn’t even notice how time passes by. When Jimin stands up to retrieve or probably return a book, Namjoon glances at the time on his laptop screen—8:29PM

How he has been staring at Park Jimin for nearly 2 hours is beyond him and he’s not going to complain about it. He does, however, start collecting his things to return them to their respective shelves. He needed to be home or Yoongi would have his for being out late on a school night. (He’s old enough but the man always treated him like a child, almost like how his brother—Seokjin—treats him. He won’t complain, though)

So, Namjoon collects the books and walks toward Jimin’s desk first. Pretending that he had to pass the table first, to reach the Philosophy shelves. He didn’t have to, of course. But if it means he gets to see what Jimin’s beautiful mind creates, then he’s more than willing to take a detour.

The screen was bright—too bright for his minimum brightness trained eyes. The safari window was open on a website he’s all too familiar with and as his eyes roamed over the content, he couldn’t help but swallow his own spit.

...He ground against him, fingers tugging at his hair. A moan slipping past his lips, only muffled by his partner’s fingers on his mouth. The tent on his sweats makes it..

Namjoon was pretty sure it was a boy group that Jimin was writing about. He glanced at the penname and saved it in the recesses of his brain, filed under “Park Jimin”.

“Excuse me? What the are you doing?”

When faced with fear, any specie is given two kinds of reaction: fight or flight. Kim Namjoon, on the other hand, opts for the third, less chosen course of action (or inaction, really): freeze. All the nerve endings in his body were numb and frozen, like he's given a shot of general anaesthesia. He was basically a deer caught in headlights.

Jimin immediately beelines for his laptop and closed it shut, shoving Namjoon out of his way, as he collected his belongings. “you shouldn’t pry on somebody else’s things, Kim Namjoon-Sunbaenim.” He mutters before walking out of the room—or more like hightailing out.

Namjoon, on the otherhand, was still standing by the table that Jimin used to occupy. It took him several seconds before he pulled a chair and slumped on it, his arm automatically covering his eyes as a dramatical sigh escapes his lips.

“Holy ,” he breathes out, the weight of the situation and the information heavy on him.

I think I just saw Park Jimin’s fanfiction account... .

He didn’t know what to do with the information so he immediately texts his friends.

And Namjoon does whatever he wanted because he ends up spending most of his weekend either on his bed or the couch, reading everything that Park Jimin wrote. It amounts to 181 fanfictions under various genres. He finds out that Jimin started first with Harry Potter stories, then moved on to Anime until he ended up writing real people fanfiction. Namjoon spirals into a fanfic made hole and he was very sure he would never get out. He subscribes to some chaptered fictions that are regularly updated.

As a literary student, Namjoon realises one thing: Park Jimin does not merely dabble. He writes as if he’s a novelist who has written several bestsellers. It’s amazing, really. The way he writes his characters with such depth, the way he weaves sentences into paragraphs, and creating intricate stories that are serious but at the same time, entertaining. Although, Jimin’s writing style feels a bit dated with his third person point of view and past tenses. His plots? Cliched. But, the way he portrays his characters with their point of views and thought process are refreshing.

Namjoon really falls for his writing and even goes as far as donating to his ko-hi account, because he believes that Park Jimin deserves a hundred cups. But he only gives 3 because that’s all a college student with a tight budget can afford.

The next time he encounters Jimin, the man avoids him. If he takes the left door, Jimin takes the right. If he takes the usual route, Jimin takes the other and Namjoon notices this. He doesn't say anything, of course. What right does he even have? But then, the man in question finally incurs a number of tardiness that their humanities professor starts noticing it.

It's pre-finals week when Professor Kwon tells him to stay at the end of their class. Namjoon obliges and he has a gut feeling it's about the attendance. Kwon asks him how many students are already dropped out of the class because of being late or absent and Namjoon tenses. "Sir, um, none? They're coming in a little late, usually, but not too late to incur an absence. You've mentioned at the start of our semester that there's a 5 minute grace period to consider someone late and 15 before they're marked absent."

Professor Kwon nods, eyes scanning his own list, "But Park Jimin has been late for a whole week--all past that grace period."

"If he's late next session, sir, I'll hand him a warning." Namjoon promises.

And he does hand Jimin a warning, especially since Professor Kwon has his eyes on him the moment Jimin walked into class, 12 minutes late.

"Park Jimin-ssi. Here's a written warning that you'll be given a Failure due to Absence mark if you're not punctual next time." Namjoon recites the words like he's prepared the spiel for days. Jimin wordlessly takes it and gives Namjoon a nod of acknowledgement.

"um, by the way, you write really nice." the words tumble softly out of his lips before he can even think and his blood immediately rushes to his neck and up to his ears. Jimin stares at him with a frown and the weight of embarrassment feels heavier on his shoulders. "Right. Um, don't be late or absent again!" Namjoon quickly goes back to his seat and makes sure he stays focused on the topic of character tropes.

    Rules for Happiness

chimmywrites

Summary:  Person A worships the ground Person B walks on. Literally. But Person B is oblivious and when he finds out, he's not exactly amused. Twist: They're not really humans.

Notes:

Summaries are a and I apologise for this one! I didn't really think about it. Also, I think the guy at one of my classes reads my fics... If you are and you're still reading this, sorry I was rude! u_u I haven't been in the best mindset this sem and it's bleeding through everywhere. hmu on twt and tell me what you think about this one! think we both owe each other an explanation lol

Also note that I'm writing this one in first person as a change of pace :D

—————

But the thing is, Namjoon doesn't message him on twitter. Instead, he does the unthinkable.

He talks to Park Jimin on the last day of their Humanities class.

"So, uh, about your first person fic," Namjoon began as he collects the papers being handed to him, Park Jimin standing in front of him as he too hands his finals paper. Jimin hums and only blinks owlishly at him.

This gets him nervous.

"I think it's pretty good. It's uh, different. And um, yeah. apology accepted, I guess? Sorry I kinda stalked you." he added.

Park Jimin smiles at him, "It's fine." He stops and looks around to as if to make sure no one is of hearing distance, "kinda weird to know someone in real life who reads my stuff, but i kinda got used to it. you're username's ninenamu, right? you kinda stood out since you've been commenting on nearly all my works and it kinda overwhelmed me?" Namjoon grimaces at this, because he kind of knew Yoongi's advice of subscribing, commenting and giving kudos to everything is a bad idea. "But don't worry! It's fine now. Glad my stuff is appreciated, you know?"

Namjoon's brows immediately creases at this, "Are you kidding me? Your average kudos is like 500 and you have a lot of people supporting you through twitter and even on the site itself. Your writing is really good, okay? Like novel good. Though, yeah, maybe you kinda need to get a beta reader or something. There's some writing errors," He sees Jimin frown so he immediately adds, "Just minor stuff! nothing real bad!"

"Then why don't you do it?"

"Do what?"

"Beta read my work. Proofread them, I guess. I don't really care? I just want my thoughts out there and not locked up in my head."

Namjoon gives an uneasy laugh, "No, I don't think so,"

But Jimin eggs him, "Come on, sunbaenim, it's just proofreading. I'm sure you're good at it. Do me a solid and help me write better,"

"Only if you drop the formalities,"

"Sunbae."

So, maybe he does give in. Maybe he does end up enjoying Literature more than he thought he will. And maybe Park Jimin does end up calling him hyung, a month later in their arrangement.

It's a small step, but for now, it's enough.
