A Timeless Love (Jang Hyuk / Jang Nara)

Description

For a couple to meet in one lifetime, it would take destiny to work its power to unite them.
But for the same couple to meet across time and space, in three lifetimes, it is fate who ties them together.

When Boxer Kang Soo Hyuk first met Training Photographer Han Chae Hee, he felt an immediate powerful but unknown need to approach her.

A loner by habit, he had never felt the need to approach anyone, but the simple thought of the strange lady who stared wordlessly from the cliff maybe having suicidal tendencies made his heart skipped a beat.

Not again, Not this lifetime.

An unseen voice sounded so much like him, echoed softly in his mind.

"Excuse me, I have been watching you. You don't happen to come here to die by any chance?"
Soo Hyuk startled the lady out of her thoughts with his concerned tone as he popped himself beside her.

Looking meaningfully at Kang Soo Hyuk for a moment, the lady in white finally spoke,
"No, I am here to live instead."

What Soo Hyuk didn't realise then was the lady, Han Chae Hee, seems to know more than she let on.
The knowing and expected look in her eyes hinted an unknown knowledge which he could not understand back then.

It was almost three years later, upon her deathbed,
Soo Hyuk realised that her love for him was more than simply chasing him off when realising that she would soon be critically ill.

The knowing look when he sat down beside Chae Hee on that first day they met.

The bittersweet smile she offered him when he first confessed to her.

The strange sentence she uttered when he promised that he would never let her be lonely again with him,
"You are lying, you won't be able to keep that promise because you won't know it yourself."

The sense of deja vu overwhelmed him then,
But he could not understand why and only laughed off his uneasiness when Chae Hee asked.

Now in the time, when she is in the state of unconsciousness, pending her visit from the grim reaper,
Soo Hyuk finally discovered her deepest secret.

Han Chae Hee, his ex-wife, was a time-traveller.

The background of this story is drawn from their latest project together, Old Goodbye in 2014.

It was a work which I have only managed to watch recently and left room for self-interpretation.

On one fine day, I heard this song, "The Story of Romeo and Juliet" by popular Taiwan Girl group, S.H.E, a story about time travel and reincarnation was brewing in my mind. As such, I present to you this one slot in the upcoming chapter in the form of a video.

I hope that you will enjoy it.

Footnote on the on-screen couple history

Jang Hyuk and Jang Nara, also known as the Jang-Jang Couple or the Snail Couple from the Korean remake Fated to Love You, are one of the rare few on-screen couples who had worked together over 3 projects together over a period of 12 years. As a fresh-faced on-screen couple, the two rookie actor and actress starred in the Successful Story of a Bright Girl (SBS 2002). Their great on-screen chemistry was an immediate favourite among the Korean audience and rocked the TV rating with an overwhelming 42.9%. The same series also helped to open a new chapter of Korean Drama in 2002 and the two were on their way to be two of the biggest Korean names in Asia.

In 2014, Jang Hyuk and Jang Nara were targeted to star in the Korean remake of Fated to Love You (MBC 2014) right from the start and the two actors agreed immediately upon learning that the other co-star is onboard the production. The result is as expected and we are treated to the Jang Jang brand of on-screen chemistry again and the Snail Couple is born! So well received by the audience that the Jang Jang couple won the best couple in the MBC Awards 2014. They were also immediately courted to return on screen again in the same year with a one episode TV Special, Old Goodbye (MBC 2014).
