Prologue
The silent moon rose over the clouds, its silvery light thrown over everything. Leaves rustled as a figure ghosted amongst the trees surrounding the small house, coming to a stop before the small garden, still half-hidden behind a tall tree.

The figure stood there, perfectly silent and blending into the dark shadows. A child, a warm-blooded human child was lying on the ground, barely past the age of 7. The silvery light of the moon made the child’s pale skin glow with a faint luminescence, making it look like he shone with a light of his own. His eyes half-closed, lips partly parted as if he was struck silent by the majesty of the night sky.

“Stay safe,” a velvety voice whispered into the night, and with a barely audible whisper of feathers the figure rose into the air, leaving behind nothing but a single black feather. The child remained oblivious to the happenings around him and only his umma calling his name could stir him from his stupor.

The small human child ran back into the house, kicking off his slippers on the way in, with the soft pitter patter of his feet as he ran to his umma. A thin silver chain bounced on his chest, a small silver key hanging from it.
