Chapter 3

April 2016

This is it, jinyoung, do your best… I know, I’ll do my best, as I tried to calm myself after seeing the tip of the tall skyscraper that was seated at the center of the busy street of Seoul.

After ten minutes of walking, I finally stopped in front of a 50-floor high-rise that’s made of steel and concrete that is finished with curtain glass walls that clearly stand out from the other buildings beside it. The building itself look like it’s been well thought and constructed. 

Thirty minutes before call time as I looked at my watch and entered the majestically built building and was welcomed with ARENGUR PRIME made of a big 3-D gold steel letterings with white lights giving more shine to it.  

Wow! This place is extravagant. Can’t believe that I was able to place a foot here, let alone work for the next six months, I thought to myself at the same time observed the place with admiration.

“Mr. Park! I’ve been waiting for you” I turned around and saw Ms. Kim, HR Head, making her way towards me.

Making my bow as I acknowledge her “Mrs. Kim”

“Thank goodness your time conscious, I’m here to take you to your boss. Come on follow me” as I followed her inside the elevator as she pressed level 49^th floor. Man! What a tall building, I guess my boss is at the 49^th floor… Right! My boss! … stupid jinyoung… sigh… how can you forget a vital piece of information. Now go ask who your boss is

“Ehem… excuse me, Mrs. Kim, pardon me bu—

Ding!

“Come on Mr. Park you don’t want to be late on your first day as a secretary” as she urged me to go out of the elevator to follow her

We then entered a floor to ceiling wall and door to what it seemed like a lobby “this is the main entrance and lobby, you see, this floor only has three divisions, this area, the pastry area with a comfort room inside, that’s located on the left side when you enter this door, and Mr. Tuan’s area which is behind that giant double door.

Wh—Who—Mr. Twan? Who the heck is that old man

This will be your area by the way, your desk with the desktop, two telephones, one is for receiving by the way, a photocopier machine beside your desk, and… this iPad where you can place his schedules and all, some of his schedules are already there by the way” as she handed me a pad with a plain black case.

“Uhh… thanks” as I received the pad with both hands. The place was spacious and is well lit, I was able to take a good look while she was explaining things to me.

“You have all the files that you need to encode and duplicate on your desk. I’m sorry, it’s your first day of work and you already have loads of work” she looked at me apologetically.

I smiled at her and said “It’s alright, it’s a job I knew that will have loads of work”

She then patted my shoulders and said “I know you’ll do well” she then looked at her watch “Oh! It’s already quarter to eight. I am needed at my department by eight. Don’t worry your boss will come anytime now”

I gave her my deepest bow and said “Thank you, Mrs. Kim” with a grateful heart. She then left after giving me one last smile.

I was finally able to sit down of my desk; this desk is huge! As I placed my palm of this half circle, brown with white edges on it, desk that has four drawers on each side making a total of eight; Better look at his schedules for today as I opened reminders on the iPad, wow… he has three meetings today… meeting at 10 with Teabi Corporations… Lunch meeting with the CEO… Proposal meeting for the new hotel by 2 in the afternoon… well I guess that ends his meetings for today.

I looked at my watch and it was ten minutes to eight already; well I better start encoding these things…1,2,3,4,56789,10… heol 10 folders! This one folder has at least 15 pages! I turned the pages one by one and saw it was a summary of last year’s investments, I then turned to the last page and read it… Signed Im Jae Bum, Chief Executive Officer, Arengur Prime. Signed Lee Jin Do, Chief Executive Officer, Lee Investments. Signed Park Ahn Hee, Chief Operating Officer, Lee Investments, Signed Mark Yi En Tuan, Chief Operating Offier, Arengur Prime

“Aww… Mark’s name is here” I cooed as I saw his name and signature

“Of course my name would be there, little one, I’m the COO” an unfamiliar but deep voice replied.

What… the… heck… who’s that and the… why the heck didn’t I hear the elevator ding… come on jinyoung… look up from that piece of paper and greet your boss

I was too nervous to move and I think I would have peed in my pants but then I got up in a hurry with my eyes closed and bowed to him saying “I’m sorry, sir, I didn’t hear the elevator ding, by the way, I’m your new secretary, Park. Jin. Young, sir” I said hurriedly

I heard him chuckled and say “I know, I was informed… Jinyoung” well… now that’s a familiar tone of a voice; I think I heard it somewhere, but I can’t remember; I carefully opened my eyes, looked up and got the biggest shock of my life

“MARK!?” did I just say that out loud

“Mark? as far as I can remember, we’re not in a first-name-call basis... yet” oh… a cold personality, I see. I’ll make sure to be the one to melt it

“Uhhh… I’m sorry boss, I mean sir… Mr. Tuan… Sir” way the go jinyoung, first day of work and you embarrassed yourself right away.

But I though Mrs. Kim said Twan… twan… tuan… TUAN!!

“how about you follow me to inside my office and tell me my schedules for today” he said as he started going inside his office, as I entered his office I started to take note of what’s inside the office as well, he has a book shelf that most books are in English while some are in Korean, a long couch beside it, a table in front of it, magazine table beside the other end of the couch, his frame on the other side of the room and a door beside it, now why would there be a door in there

I followed him inside like a lost puppy, upon arriving to this desk, he then removed his coat and placed it on his leather chair leaving him on his white polo, vest and black necktie, that gold Rolex watch must have cost fortune tho

“Right… at 10 you’ll have a meeting with Teabi Corporations, a lunch meeting with the CEO, and a proposal meeting for the new hotel by 2 in the afternoon, you’ll be free the rest of the afternoon sir” I looked at his after reading all his schedules of the day.

Did I save someone important in my last life that I deserved this in my present… I’m working with Mark, my soon to be hubby, I AM SHOUTING EVERYONE, IN MY HEAD, I WORKING WITH MARK, I’M WORKING WITH MARK, I WORKING WITH MAR— Does he perhaps remember me… nah I don’t think so…

I was suddenly coming back to reality when I head Mr. Tuan call my name “Mr. Park… hey… hey are you listening?” I heard him day

“Pardon, sir”

he then sighed and said “you should really listen more and stop daydreaming if you want to keep this job” not breaking the eye contact

“Yes, of course, Sir. I’ll do my work to the best of my abilities”

“Hmn… how about starting it by making me a cup of coffee”

“Got it sir” I replied with a smile
