Romance in the Church (Hiatus)Behind the slightly cracked door, Youngjae stirred in his slumber to the sound of muffles. Tossing to the side and lying flat on his stomach, his fingers brushed the soft carpet beneath him. When it didn’t feel right, he fought the weariness and tried to open one eye. To his surprise he was no longer in a bus, sitting beside Shinhye, and on his way to find Seyeon.
Instead, along with the muffles, the bright source that had made its way through the crack began to expand. And came with it a raspy voice, “Youngjae, up yet?”
His heart raced. While he’s trying to figure out whose voice it was, a lean and tall silhouette came into view.
All of a sudden any drowsiness he had felt before vanished. Wide awake he prompted himself up with his hands.
The newcomer reached over and switched the lights on, forcing Youngjae to shut his eyes before he even got a good look. “If you were awake why didn’t you come out? Still tired?”
It took Youngjae a moment to recover from the light that may as well have damaged his vision some more. The sight of the man had Youngjae speechless. He couldn’t believe his eyes.
Standing before him was his leader, who he thought was responsible for the death of those around them and who he was told was dead, Bang Yongguk. However, Yongguk looked very alive. He appeared healthy and just as strong and tough as Youngjae remembered him.
As countless thoughts ran through Youngjae’s head with the wonderment of if he was dreaming - Yongguk wasted no time to approach his bedside. “What’s wrong with your face? Why? Had a bad dream?” Youngjae shook himself out of it when Yongguk’s touch on his shoulder felt...real. The pressure and warmth were present.
Youngjae gazed into Yongguk’s eyes, desperate for answers. When the other realized Youngjae wasn’t responding and seemed confused, his smile faded. “Youngjae?”
The one being called blinked as he scanned the room for any clues. “Isn’t this Jongup’s room? Why am I here?” Not realizing he was stating his thoughts aloud, Yongguk hummed in response.
“I thought you only drank one glass? Still drunk?”
Yongguk. Drinking. Jongup’s room.
Youngjae jogged through his memories in hope that he will be able to figure out the time period on his own. As far as he could recall, Yongguk rarely treated them out to drinks. And if he wasn’t mistaken, it only happened three or four times. Yet, not every single time did he find himself in Jongup’s room.
“Is this the year 2015!” He blurted.
“Yeah, it’s 2015. Why? That’s a funny thing to ask Jae,”
Youngjae breathed a scoff, “2015...So it’s not only between 2017 and there, huh,” his mumbling had Yongguk wearing a silly face.
“What are you going on about? Come, Jongup made beef stew,” Yongguk said. After slapping a pat on his back, Yongguk got up first and left the room. Cocking his head, Youngjae sighed deeply.
“This time traveling stuff is really screwing with my mind and emotions, ,”
When Jongup welcomed Youngjae at the dining table, Youngjae was hoping Jongup had memories of them meeting in Shanghai. However, Jongup never gave him a sign. Even when Yongguk left the table to answer an anonymous phone call, Jongup merely asked about his condition instead. And if he succeeded in getting the pretty woman’s number from the club last night. As their conversation deepened, memories of that night were slowly crawling back to him.
Youngjae simply shook his head with a smirk, “I bluffed about it since I didn’t want Himchan getting close to someone like her,”
“Someone like her? From afar, she seemed kind of cute to us,”
Youngjae took a drink of his water before he answered, “And that’s why I didn’t want them getting to know each other. She seemed clinging and Himchan has a soft spot for cute women. I don’t want to hear any more about how his heart was broken and torn into a million pieces when he treated her like a queen,”
Jongup snickered as he sipped a spoonful of his soup, “He’s such a hopeless romantic,”
