Questions and answers

Seven Personalities
It’s another busy morning at work so I have no time for distractions. My shift ends soon enough and sitting in the back room, I get ready to head home.

“Kyung,” Hani pops her head in and looks around. “You doing okay?”

I shrug. “Why not?

“That day Oh Jaehoon swiped my phone to call you, I swear I didn’t know he would be there.”

“It’s been long enough, Hans. I want to put it behind me now.” I look at the time. “I have to be back soon. See you tomorrow.” Taking my bag, I sidestep her and leave the café.

“Our noona must be caught up at work,” a male voice says. “You can just leave the things here first.”

“Excuse me,” I call out to the uniformed workers gathered in front of my apartment. “Are you from the moving company?”

An older man steps up. “Unit 528?” I nod. “Just in time. Your brother here keeps saying that he forgot the passcode and couldn’t let us bring the things in.”

“Here, let me.” Pushing past the man and the bedframe behind him, I punch in the passcode and open the door.

“Noona!” Taehyung jumps up and smiles widely at me.

“You—”

“Miss, where should I put this?”

I turn into the house. “Everything should go into the room on the left, thank you. Kim Taehyung-ssi?”

“I’m here, noona!”

“Where’s Jin-ssi?”

Taehyung stares blatantly at me. “Inside of me?”

“Now isn’t the time to be playing around,” I snap. “Seriously, where is he?”

“Seriously, he’s not here!” Taehyung looks like he’s on verge of breaking down, funny because I feel like I might be the one to faint first. “How can Jin hyung do this to me… Noona, are you really sure he didn’t tell you anything about... being sick?”

“Why would he—”

“But there’s something important you should know about me,” Jin’s words come flooding into my mind.

“I’m a bit sick,” Jin continues to say.

I frown. “What do you mean, sick?”

“You’ve heard about having multiple personalities?” Jin asks. “It’s something like that. I become a different person when I sleep and wake up.”

“Huh? You’re telling me now that you have multiple personalities?” Is he for real?

Jin nods, his face nothing but serious. “Including me, there are seven of us. I have to tell you this since we’re living together now. I don’t want you to be frightened every time you see a different face.”

I scoff. “I don’t know much about having multiple personalities but I do know that for DID, you don’t just wake up looking like a totally different person. It’s still the same face.”

“Not for me.” Jin stares right into my eyes and sends a chill down my spine. “I wake up with a different face and a different body. A totally different identity.”

I stare at him in disbelieve, my eyes unblinking. “Seokjin-ssi, you’re kidding, right?”

I must have forgotten all about it because of how preposterous it sounded, unworldly. I turn my focus back to Taehyung.

“You are… one of Jin-ssi’s personalities?” I ask softly.

Taehyung claps as if in joy. “He did tell you!” Confident now, he strides into the house. “Please move the cupboard over here. That shelf goes there.”

Standing in the middle of the living room, I still find it hard to believe this. Is such a thing really possible? What unheard case of having multiple personalities is this?

“Noona, now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, what do you say we go out for lunch later? I’m starving.” Taehyung suggests.

“Why are you calling me noona? Also, how can I know if you’re not lying?” I cross my arms. “Multiple personalities don’t make multiple bodies. How is it possible that the whole physique of a person can change overnight?”

“First of all,” Taehyung starts, unfazed, “you look like you’d be about Namjoon hyung’s age. He’s one year older than me. I’m 23 this year.”

“Uh-huh, so I’m 24. I acknowledge that.”

Taehyung sighs. “Secondly, we should talk about it when all these people leave.” He gestures at the people moving in and out of the house bringing furniture in.

And so, we wait.

They take almost an hour and a half to bring everything up. Besides furniture, there are also many other suitcases and boxes. So many of them.

“How are the boxes never ending?” I ask, muttering to myself.

Taehyung must have heard me because he answers my question. “There are seven of us,” he explains simply.

Even the workers sigh in relieve when the last of the boxes are brought up. Once they’re gone, we scan the living room now cramped with his things. Inside, the study room overflows with boxes after boxes to be unpacked.

“How are there so many things?” I whisper under my breath.

“I’m pretty sure you asked that just now,” Taehyung says. “There are seven of us, and all of us have different preferences.”

“Uh-huh, which brings us back to where we left off earlier,” I prompt.

“Which is? Oh, that?” Taehyung plants his down on the sofa. “Whether or not you believe it, it’s true that there are totally distinctive seven of us in this one being. But I don’t know why we’re like this. How am I supposed to know something that even the doctor doesn’t?”

“Doctor as in singular?” I blink. “I’d think that you would have gone around the world to get this cured.”

“I don’t know,” Taehyung says, shrugging. “The smart hyungs take care of things like this.”

My ears perk. “You say there are seven of you. Are you the youngest one?”

“No,” he shakes his head. “Jungkook is the youngest. He’s 21.”

“Is Jin-ssi the oldest?”

He nods. “Jimin is my age. Namjoon hyung and Hoseok hyung are 24, like you. Yoongi hyung is 25, and Jin hyung, 26, is the oldest.”

“Does everyone know everything about everyone else? How is it possible when only one of you exists at any time?” I have so many questions and yet I get even more curious as they are answered.

Taehyung smiles. “Can we get food first? I’m really hungry…”

“Do you want to go out and eat or shall we just call for delivery?”

“Let’s just call in. I want jjajangmyeon.”

A/N: A bit more informative in today's chapter, just to introduce everyone into the story. Also, I won't be updating tomorrow because of a full day of schedules. As a small spoiler, we will meet a new personality in the next chapter!
